[TV Line] An A list film actor/actress will soon be starring in his/her first major TV series, but there’s a catch that no one is talking about: The performer in question only signed on for one season. And this series is not being billed as an anthology.

    It’s Julia Roberts. She has a quote out that “television isn’t for the faint of heart”. I really dislike her so I won’t be watching her new show.

    Prestige comes not from one’s job, but from how you do it. TV and movies are apples and oranges – you just are more easily able to forget a mediocre movie, while mediocre TV series can limp along for years – Jen Aniston is A list, TV & movies, but i wouldn’t call her work prestigious.

    P.S. With reference to my guess, Sean Penn, his first starring role on ‘The First’ (again, it’s an interesting title) it premiered in September 2018 on Hulu & British Television Channel 4 (as it’s a British-American collaboration).

    Cavill? The Witchers? Though I don’t think he is A list.
    As a viewer I think the quality of the writing is more important that the difference between TV/Film, but actors might make more money from movies?

    Is it Sean Penn? I know Hulu shows can build a good following but does it really count as a major series?

    I don’t think it matters what kind of actor one is. But I do think that it takes a good actor/actress to round out a cast for a whole TV season. Movies can sometimes be mind numbing when the lead is boring but it’s easier to plow through another hour and just finish it than continue watching an entire series when the main is insufferable.

    Leonardo DiCaprio. Clue: “Catch (me if you can.)” TV, movies, makes no difference any more. It’s all about exposure!

    Don’t know who this is. You get more money as a movie actor, but if you want to earn an Emmy than TV is the way to go. Plus, t.v. keeps you in the forefront more than movies I think.

    Amy Adams….baseball movie with catch…trouble with the curve…last baseball movie that came out

    New TV “miniseries”-Adams returned to television in 2018 with Sharp Objects on HBO. She served as an executive producer for the series and starred as a self-harming reporter who returns to her hometown to cover the murder of two young girls.

    Make bank. Pay bills anyway you can. Actors have a hard time working since reality TV. It does not matter. Being a movie star is better.

    Sean Penn or Charlize Theron (with help from the related blind), but I’ll go with
    Sean Penn

    (Though, both have been in a TV movie & appeared in very few TV episodes here or there…but neither has been a regular or starred on a show except for Sean Penn as of Sept. 2018, in ‘The First’ – an interesting name for his 1st major TV appearance; he also is due to star in a TV miniseries in 2019.)

    With technology, TV & film should now be considered equally with regard to prestige.

    Actor is Chris Evans. Recently signed for a tv series in which he is a producer as well.

    I think the actors are doing tv for money and to enhance their audience which interns enhances their careers. When the do a limited series, it still qualifies them as film actors. TV actors are less prestigious.

    Julia Roberts for Homecoming? When the blind item originally came out on TVline I was pretty confident this was the case, but a google search today mentions that it got renewed for season 2… I haven’t watched it, so I have no idea if Roberts’ character would be necessary for the existence of a second season. Maybe it’s not her after all.

    At very high level, it’s more prestigious to be a movie actor. But there’s so much more TV these days that it’s easier to be make a living there.

    Unfairly, movies are more prestigious. But you know what they say: movies make you famous, TV makes you rich, theater makes you good.

    Movies have sucked for years now, all the good content is in tv shows!

    Judging from the other blind, I’ll guess Sean Penn over Charlize Theron, because his career is tanking fast, so it makes sense for him to try and rejuvenate it in TV land.

    Optional: I grew up in a time when being a movie star was far more prestigious than bring a tv star, and that’s how I still see it.

    Since the movie business has become too commercial, with the emphasis on money-generating franchises, it is easier to find more prestigious and challenging roles in TV projects. The pay is probably not as good, though.
