Your friends at Blind Gossip were the first to tell you way back in 2016 that Bradley Cooper was testing out Lady Gaga for the lead role in A Star Is Born (see The Odd Couple).

Very soon thereafter, we let you know that they were going to sell that love story as if it was real.

Sure enough, as soon as Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper started filming A Star Is Born together, the rumors began flying!

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are having an affair! They are in love!

There were three things that made this rumor plausible to the public.

  • Lady Gaga and Christian Carino were breaking up.
  • Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk were breaking up.
  • Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper seemed to have crazy chemistry together.

If you saw them perform Shallow together at The Oscars, you would have sworn that they were in love!

The Atlantic had this to say about the Gaga/Cooper Oscars performance:

As in, they got out of their seats in the front row where they’d been sitting all night. It was such a simple thing, and so shocking. Naturally, the point of the Oscars is the audience itself, with each member a potential trove of speeches, GIFs, and gossip. Cooper and Gaga provided such treats in generous quantities over the awards season, with months of mutual-admiration spectacles on red carpets fueling speculation—fan fiction, really—of an affair. Last week, Gaga’s engagement to Christian Carino ended, intensifying the heavy breathing among observers. On Sunday, Cooper’s longtime partner, Irina Shayk, sat between him and Gaga in the front row: a theoretically un-extraordinary move that landed like a dramatic twist in the narrative.

All the tabloid baggage of previous months accompanied Gaga and Cooper as they linked hands across Shayk and then ferried from seat to stage, from spectator to performer, from celebrity to artist in action. Actors and pop stars traffic in fantasy, but rarely has the alchemy by which real people morph into fiction been toyed with so powerfully. The two of them—Stefani and Bradley the humans, or A Star Is Born’s Ally and Jackson?—walked up and took positions by the piano, facing each other. They wouldn’t directly regard the cameras at any point, and they’d leave unacknowledged the sea of glitterati perpendicular to them—and in the background on TV—until the end. Each viewer was an intruder.

As “Shallow” reached its full froth, he bolted up and moved the mic stand aside almost violently. But then he sat beside Gaga and nuzzled her with a kind of equine gentleness. In her fluttering lashes and curt finger stabs, Gaga meanwhile conveyed tamped-down, love-struck panic, as if feeling and professionalism were in a duel.

Wow! Such drama!

They are actors, people. They were acting.

As your friends from Blind Gossip told you, this was a staged relationship to fuel interest in the movie. Despite the tabloid reports and the convincing performances, they were never in love.

It was just their job to convince you that they were in love!

Lady Gaga clears up Bradley Cooper dating rumors: ‘I guess we did a good job’ acting

After starring together in 2018’s “A Star Is Born” remake, Gaga and Cooper’s red carpet and award show appearances had fans buzzing with speculation over whether they had translated their on-screen romance to real life.

The Oscars performance in particular raised eyebrows: The collaborators looked each other lovingly in the eyes as they sang about taking a leap of faith, all while Cooper’s then-girlfriend and mother of his son, Irina Shayk, watched from the front row. (After reports of the couple’s breakup over the summer, tabloids and fans on social media speculated it had something to with his relationship with Gaga.)

“Quite frankly, I think the press is very silly,” Gaga said, speaking to Oprah Winfrey for the December issue of Elle. “I mean, we made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars. We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on.” 

Gaga said she and Cooper worked on the Oscars performance “for days” and “orchestrated (it) as a performance.” Referring to Cooper as a “beautiful father,” she agreed with Winfrey that, had the actor actually been in love with her, he wouldn’t have been able to look her in the eyes the way he did that night.

Translation: Those loving looks were nothing more than good old Hollywood acting. 

“In truth, when we talked about it, we went, “Well, I guess we did a good job!’ ” she said of their viral moment. 

It only took Gaga three years to “clear up” those dating rumor!

Then, a month or two after the Oscars, rumors started flying that Lady Gaga was dating actor Jeremy Renner.

Just one month after Lady Gaga announced the end of her engagement to her talent agent fiance Christian Carino, and just a few weeks after making the world wonder if she and Bradley Cooper were truly in love with their performance at the Academy Awards, the singer has reportedly been spending time with Jeremy Runner.

In a sign of their closeness, the “Avengers” star has invited Gaga to spend time with him and his daughter, Ava, 6. The girl is Renner’s daughter with his ex-wife, Canadian model Sonni Pacheco, according to Us Weekly.

With Renner, Lady Gaga enjoys some connection to Cooper, her co-star and director for “A Star is Born.” Renner co-starred with Cooper in the acclaimed 2013 film “American Hustle.”

In “A Star is Born,” Lady Gaga and Cooper generated lots of sexual heat playing doomed rocker lovers; their on-screen chemistry encouraged a fan base dedicated to “Jackson and Ally Forever.”

Oh my god! Could it be a love triangle?!

    I hope Gaga and Renner do become a thing. I think he is Bi, not just gay. She’s probably Bi as well. I love both of them and think they’d be perfect as a couple and, who knows, maybe they’d be happy together and into the hook up.

    I don’t care if either is gay, straight or inbetween. Nobody has time for that and nobody cares anymore.

    Side note: I totally want to see another Jason Bourne movie with Renner starring as Aaron Cross. He was awesome in it.

      Well, in this case she is smarter than that, she simply let people speculate.
      I don’t understand why gay actors fake relationship when it’s as easy as going out with a female friend and let people talk about it.
      And it has the advantage that you don’t have to lie and makes easier to come out in the future.
      Of course when it’s a promotional thing a contract is require.
