[Blind Gossip] If you are out taking advantage of those post-Christmas sales and you happen to run into this TV actress shopping up a storm, you might be jealous of the sheer volume of her purchases.
Don’t be.
We’ve talked about her financial woes before.
You see, although she grew up in a giant house with every imaginable luxury, she has done a really poor job managing her money as an adult.
She would earn some money and then spend it as soon as she got it.
She would run up sky-high credit card debt and find herself unable to pay it down.
And now, even though her TV project is over and her tour was a failure… she is still spending, spending, spending!
There seems to be some compulsive behavior behind it all.
She shops compulsively. She could have ten of something, but if she sees it in a store, she has to buy another one. A lot of the time she justifies it by saying it’s for someone else (like her kids) even though they don’t want it or need it.
What happens to all that stuff?
They have moved a few times in the past few years. They have several storage facilities where they put all their stuff. A lot of things in there are brand new and have never been used.
Her mother has bailed her out several times, but she may be taking a new approach.
She’s going to ask [Daughter] to go into therapy. Not credit counseling therapy, but psychological therapy.
Supposedly, it’s not because Mom can’t afford to bail Daughter out of her financial mess. It’s because she recognizes that the core of the problem might not actually be money!

Rich people problems! Her Mom is worth $600 million dollars. She can’t take it with her, but she should have her daughter get some therapy… besides retail therapy! I think that Tori has always been a poor little rich girl. She lacked for nothing while her doting father Aaron was alive and she knew how to play him to get what she wanted. I thing Candy was jealous of the relationship and turned against Tori.

I believe that Tori Spelling never had a good mother/ daughter relationship with her mother. There doesn’t seem to be a good bond there. I know women like this. The lack of a good maternal bond seems to screw them up.
Tori has a huge void that needs to be filled. Thus, her compulsive need to procreate or her compulsive need to acquire material items. She definitely needs some very good psychotherapy.

Poor little rich girl Tori. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see she was an ugly duckling in a beauty-obsessed town, and buying tons of “things” is an effort to fill a void that no objects can: fear of rejection/deep insecurity. Crazy it took this long for her mom to realize she needs help, not money.

Tori had a 6000 sq foot closet in the former Spelling mansion. I don’t know if she’s actually compulsive, or if it’s a lifetime habit that’s really hard to break.

When I was in high school in the late ‘80s, I remember reading something about her in Seventeen magazine. It said that she had one of everything from Express in every single color that it was made in. That always stuck with me for some reason.
I guess if you grow up with immense wealth, it always stays with you in some way. Perhaps owning tons of clothes is hers.
wareagle says
Tori Spelling. She clearly has an addiction problem that’s no different than one to drugs or alcohol. I had a friend in college whose mom secretly took out a $100,000 loan in her name to feed her secret shopping addiction. It destroyed my friend’s credit (she only discovered what her mom had done when she did one of those free credit checks) and she had to sue her own mother. It’s a real psychological problem, and makes me sad for Tori’s kids

I think it makes Tori feel better temporarily. Shopping and spending can be an escape. I sort of feel bad for her. Aaron and a Candy lived a life with an emphasis on material goods and outrageous displays of wealth. She derives
self worth from that and now that it is gone….it’s a hard come down.

I don’t know why she acts this way-it is not just growing up wealthy she has made and lost all of the money she made acting. I think mom needs to let her really hit bottom although therapy is a great idea but she still needs to be held accountable for her actions.

She was never perceived as the “pretty” one but was perceived as the “rich” one. At this point it definitely seems like compulsive behavior. Her dad was right not to give her too much money – she’d have spent it all by now.
