A Surprise Personal Declaration Is Coming

[TV Line] When is a comedy special more than just a run-of-the-mill comedy special?

When the headliner of said comedy special breaks a major piece of news (in the form of a personal declaration) during said comedy special.

Yep, if the buzz circulating around Hollywood is to be believed, that’s the provocative twist at the center of a forthcoming, tightly-guarded — and potentially groundbreaking — standalone TV event starring a very notable stand-up comic/TV star.

As if that wasn’t a dramatic enough hook for a comedy offering, an insider tells me that among the folks who will be first to learn of this development are members of the entertainer’s own family (although it’s unknown if they would be present/participating in the special).

It’s also unclear if the rumored TV special is of the traditional standup variety or something more hybrid-y. But as one insider tells me, if this event comes together — and it’s looking like it will — it will have lotsa folks talking.

    Jim Carrey. About his mental illness or his stance on vaccines, or the ex-girlfriend. Or any of the other things surrrounding him, really. He loves that hybrid documentary format, with the documentary about how he got lost in the sauce with Andy Kaufman. He’s done TV, standup, and movies (aside: why is In Living Colour the only show that doesn’t get a reboot!! bring back Jlo and the fly girls!)

    Tim Allen. Buzz, Hook and Lotsa (Lotso) are all Toy Story characters, and I think he’s the only living stand-up comedian in that franchise. Maybe he’s going to announce he’s running for office of some type.

    I’m going with Jerry Seinfeld due to the words “buzz” and “hybrid” in this blind (possibly referring to Bee Movie and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee).

    I am getting a Tim Allen vibe (Buzz, Lotsa – both characters in Toy Story)

    Maybe he is pulling a Kendall and revealing he battles with adult acne. Or maybe that he has been an addict for ages. The door is really open to anything. But i am guessing not TOO scandalous considering Toy Story 4 is coming out.

    Hope this is not all hype and not much else, like Kendall’s big announcement that she had acne. We were baited for weeks with teasers from the mother about this huge life changing moment in Kendall’s life and all we got was a zit story. No offense to anyone with a skin condition, but most of us were poised to hear her gay proclamation. Remember Geraldo’s big buildup to opening Capone’s vault in the mid-80s? It turned out to be nothing but a dusty hole in the wall and a few cigar stubs.

    This blind sounds like a woman who might be transitioning or is bi/pan-sexual, but the first would be more “newsworthy” these days. No way is it Eddie Murphy admitting anything publicly; his girlfriend is pregnant now with their second child together.

    I’m guessing this person will announce they are gay/Lesbian which will surprise few as it seems to be a popular kind of declaration in Hollywood. It also wins celebrities a bump in positive coverage. Otherwise engagement or retirement?

    I hope it’s not about an illness, the sadness would make it hard to focus on the show.
