[Blind Gossip] This wealthy singer has multiple household staff.
She provides their meals while they are working, but does not go overboard about the menu.
[The Singer’s] family and guests eats really well. The staff eats separately. It reminds me of when I worked at restaurants where the staff gets a “house meal” or a “family meal.” It’s not bad, but it’s definitely not gourmet food. It’s just cheaper food like spaghetti or tacos or hamburgers.
One day the Singer announced that she was going to treat the staff to a special meal.
She had been raving about some dinner of filet mignon and lobster that she had eaten and said that it was so awesome that she was going to treat us to a “surf and turf” next week. It may sound funny, but we were super excited! We talked about it all week!
The cook sent one of the staff shopping for the meal and the fixings.
We knew we probably weren’t going to get filet mignon and lobster, but that’s okay. They got big packs of ribeye steaks, crab cakes, potatoes, asparagus, baby greens for a salad, etc.
Sounds great, right? Well, it was until the Singer saw the food.
[The Singer] took one look at all the food and said, “Are you kidding me? Are you crazy? I’m not paying for that!”
She made the staff person return the asparagus and the ribeye steaks and crab cakes… and buy frozen peas, frozen fish sticks, and a single London broil that would be sliced up and shared among the hungry staff.
Well, we did get a couple of slices of steak and fish sticks, so technically, we did have surf and turf. It just wasn’t the meal we were dreaming about!

Had all the crab legs I could eat at the home of a very wealthy woman who had a fund raiser for charity.

Mariah Carey? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I think they should be appreciative of her generosity. I wouldn’t have wanted frozen fish sticks though, lol.
Best meal I ever had was not a meal, but the one and only time I got to go out of the country I got to fly business class to France, and I had a tiny bite of quail terrine on the plane, and it may not have been the best but my excitement made it the best. I still remember it fondly and always will.

I don’t know who this is, but she is vile. It’s not about the meal or her selfishness, it’s about the complete disregard for her staff’s feelings. Promising a “special meal” to the people who work for her is not necessary, but a nice gesture until she pulls a bait-and-switch with a nice meal for a grade school cafeteria meal. It’s nothing more than a power play. A wealthy person who is not even willing to treat her staff to asparagus has some Joan Crawford-level issues.

This is exactly what I was going to say. It’s not that she owes her staff a special meal, but if she brought it up and promised them something special (and “surf & turf” is pretty specific), then she needs to keep her word. Otherwise, just pay the staff the wages they are due and keep your mouth shut.

This smacks of someone who grew up poor who that thinks their success is owed solely to their talent and hardwork rather than say, marrying a record label mogul or having sex as a way of obtaining professional advantage. My guess is JLo or Mariah.
Best meal I ever had was a special kaiseki Christmas time meal in Tokyo where the sushi was served in a gorgeous little minature ice igloo.

I don’t know who this is, but you are lucky the staff doesn’t spit in your food. You don’t tell staff you are treating them to a great meal and then serve them frozen fish sticks and frozen peas.

Mariah Carey or Beyoncé or Jennie not from the block — all are narcissists that won’t even allow eye contact (Jennie won’t talk to flight attendants on plane trips, she has her assistant sitting next to her talk to them), so I can see them being selfish.

I’m sorry – you can return food to a grocery store? I can imagine if it’s expired or damaged/spoiled, but I’m completely skeeved out at the thought of buying food which had been previously purchased!
As far as the guess, I’m going with Mariah. I was onboard with the house meals vs the family meals (who doesn’t love tacos!), but the thought of making someone return food goes far beyond what I’d say is acceptable!
EmmaTheRevelator says
I worked at a grocery store all through college… returned food never went back on the shelf even if it was still good. We put it in our “misplaced” cart and it was written off as a loss at the end of the day. Meat, fresh fruits, and veggies were against the law (in North Carolina at least) to return to shelves. And honestly? We only really accepted returns on those items if they were bad. Singer got away with it because of her fame I’m guessing.

Entitled much? The staff, not the singer. They get paid to be there and on the job. Not to enjoy top-of-the-line gourmet delicacies. I wonder how much walks out of the singer’s house any way if that’s their attitude.

Mariah Carey? I have no guess really but don’t know why any employer should provide meals to staff. It was kind of presumptuous for the cook to send someone to shop for a meal of that level.
reen57 says
I don’t know. If I employed live in staff, I would provide meals for them. If they are hourly employees with pre set breaks and lunch, then no. If they are expected to be on call every minute of their shift, I would want to compensate them enough to keep them loyal and willing to come back to work for me. If meals were what was needed, I would do it.
