Scrubbed And Rebranded

[Blind Gossip] It is always interesting to discover how celebrities behaved before they were famous.

She is a singer. Very successful. She might even EGOT someday!

Like many in the music industry, she did not meet with overnight success. She was talented and got some attention, but she didn’t get real traction until she and her team made a few changes.

It wasn’t about changing her music. It was about changing her.

Basically, they completely rebranded her. Her new image was more edgy/cool/quirky/woke.

It worked, too. Today she is one of the most successful singers in the world!

However, about that “woke” thing…

Before the change, she had a social media account under a different name than the one she now uses professionally.

That person… wasn’t so woke. In fact, some of her old posts were critical of certain groups of people.

One example involved her making fun of people who sing with an accent.

Another had her critiquing the music of an entire race of people. The comment? “I can’t tell you the last song from a black woman that made me think.”

Ouch.

Those kinds of statements certainly take the shine off that incredibly woke and socially conscious image of hers!

If those comments became public, her socially conscious fans might find it difficult to let them slide. There could even be an outcry that would include the “R” word.

That definitely would not fit with her image! So…

During her rebranding, she and her team scrubbed everything from social media that they possibly could, including all her past racist/colorist comments under different accounts.

Those posts are no longer public. However, she and her team are not completely confident they will stay that way.

Over the past few weeks they started talking again about how nervous they are that those past comments could come to light. If there was some sort of expose, it would be a disaster for her brand.

    It’s definitely H.E.R.

    At the Oscars the other night when they were interviewing her after her win, the comment was made that she was on her way to an EGOT, and she was like, oh hellz yeah! The recent conversation and this blind item are just too coincidental 😉

    Changing my answer- I don’t think this is Gaga, since Gaga has always been quirky, and “woke.”

    It’s H.E.R., formerly Gabi Wilson. She started in the business at the age of 9 on Nickolodeon but never really got anywhere until 2016, when she rebranded herself as her new persona. She now has a Grammy and Oscar.

    I had to finally create an account for this. It’s H.E.R.

    Clues: constant references to ‘She’, she just won an Oscar, was known and discovered with her real name as a child but later got famous with her more anonymous branding, has a song called Slide.

    I’m always suspicious of her as an industry person. Strong industry backing all of a sudden, esp. from Grammy’s.
    I remember she constantly shaded SZA (& her accent) on twitter, she’s half Filipina and was on that ‘mixed girls do it…

    I didn’t like it when she culturally appropriated the cheongsam/qipao at last year’s Emmy’s. She is half Filipina but she’s certainly got no Chinese or Vietnamese heritage and by wearing it, she was happy to say “all Asians are the same.”

    I first thought Halsey or Lana, but it’s Gaga! Grammy and Oscar in the bag. Rebranded from her real name and started wearing crazy fashion after struggling to make it for about 3-4 years. She’s been a big supporter of gay/trans rights since she blew up, so there’s the woke side. This profile must be OLD to have not been found by stan twitter.

    I’m a fan. I respect pop singers who can actually write and perform. I’d like to see a more piano-led project from her, like her pre-Gaga days.

    I have no idea…Lady Gaga, maybe? And no, I’m definitely not a fan. She doesn’t have a distinct sound to me; her songs could be labeled “Lady Gaga’s Country Song,” “Lady Gaga’s Disco Song,” and so on. It’s like she writes and sings (or mimics) genres instead of having her own flavor and artistic integrity.

    *insert sad face* Yes! I bought her last album and I am surprised that what people were saying was true that she used someone else’s persona as her own because no one knew who. She was and that person passed away like a year after Lady Gaga became successful and she was friends with the person it would be a shame if she still is like that. Cancel culture will come for her.

    The word Brand is used at least twice in the blind and she was married to Russell Brand.
    Just a guess!
    I love her dark hair and fair skinned Snow White look but I wouldn’t say I am a fan! 🙂

    She’s the only female singer I could think of that might manage an EGOT.. She also made a big deal about how monumental Lemonade was for her black friends.. She has a quirky image.. And young Adele seems like the person to run off her mouth..

    I like her songs.. She’s an incredible songstress

    I’m thinking Billie Eilish for this one.
    I’ve heard that Camilla. cane lo has made those comments in the past but she’s not what I would consider a good singer.

    OMG, Hope it’s not Adele but she seems to fit the description! Maybe Taylor Swift but she isn’t exactly “edgy”. Not sure on this one, but very curious! Maybe H.E.R.?

    Lana Del Rey? She made a comment in 2020 comparing how the industry sanctions songs about sexuality from black female artists but her music is snubbed. Maybe they’ve just been made aware of someone that took screenshots or saved material that highlights her past ignorance and intolerance. I feel like we should know about this sort of thing. I hope it comes to light and she has a #metoo type reckoning.

    She already has a million Grammys and an Oscar. She could easily write a Tony-winning musical or win an Emmy for a television appearance.

    She used to be more folksy and she’s not exactly edgy now but it’s a far cry from where she was when she was younger.

    Lady Gaga is my educated guess.
    I used to be, back in 2008, 2009 much more than now tbh.
    On the “race” note, it’s getting overdone with how much it’s overused today, stemming from online “activism” and mentally ill people using it as an excuse and way to gain power and control. BC the way they talk about it, isn’t, “let’s get equality”, it’s, demonizing white people just for being ‘white’. We can’t control our skin color, and more racism is not the solution.

    My guess is Lady Gaga back in her Stefani Germanotta days. I think I remember reading some of her fellow students weren’t too fond of her in her college days. Maybe one of them has receipts.

    Lady Gaga is the only one I can think of who might be an EGOT one day (already has an Oscar and Grammy.)

    But I don’t remember a time when her image wasn’t ever quirky, or edgy (?) When she first came on the scene, I was in college and she was certainly edgy even then.
