[Pop Bitch] Neatly proving just how ineffective celebrity social media campaigns actually are, 18 A-listers sacrificed their “digital lives” for charity in 2010.
They vowed to stop updating their Twitter and Facebook feeds until their fans had donated a million dollars to the Keep A Child Alive campaign to help fight AIDS.
Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and Usher were among those who took part.
After six days of celebrity silence, donations were still under $300k.
The celebs all had projects to push.
However, they couldn’t very well tweet until their goal was matched.
A billionaire donor had to be drafted in to pay off the remainder to let them get back to plugging themselves.
FYI: It would have cost the celebs’ combined 35 million followers at the time less than 3 cents each to clear the goal.

Can’t be Ripa–she is a s flat as a board. “BREASTS ARE REAL” makes me think of someone who has a chest .
I’m thinking Savannah. I don’t get the photo tho—
Interesting to read other views/guesses and why!

Billionaire: Hmmm which billionaire looks after his own kind, is thirsty, and corrupt? I can think of a couple, but I’m going to go with Musk.
Which celebrity is most annoying when it comes to asking you to spend money on their products/causes? Kris * Jr AKA Kylie!!

Elon Musk. He likes to think he is down with the kids.
All of them. It is really disingenuous asking hard working people to contribute to their vanity projects whilst they keep counting their money

Possibly Zuckerberg? Since they were his platforms.

I’m not going to thank the billionaire. He didn’t do us any favors. Mark Zuckerman or Jeff Bezos?

Billionaire: I really wish this is Trump so it would create a huge embarrassment to these celebs that bash him publicly (but I don’t think that will be the case)
Optional: Goop is most annoying!

Billionaire: pharmaceutical mogul Stewart Rahr
All of them are annoying. All the money they spend on hair, makeup, clothes just to make an appearance for the beg for money could go to their charity. Most of the fans don’t have enough money to buy their own food or pay their rent.

Richard Branson??? Total guess.
Op- all the pro athletes that are using their professional positions to lecture those that can afford to watch them perform. Won’t be supporting them anymore and contributing to their millions.
parkland45 says
Why didn’t they sweeten the pot at the start? There’s something off about this method of fundraising where the stars get regular folks to donate… but do they donate as well??

Just FYI – the minimum donation accepted was $10. So that might have stopped a lot of followers. I think the question is why didn’t the celebrities just pony up the money?

This is hilarious! I don’t follow anyone because I have a life to live. So, I don’t know who hawks what.

Alicia Keys honored Oprah at Keep A Child Alive in 2012. In 2010, maybe Oprah was putting her $$ to good use but my guess is Oprah was the face & bailout money came from number of ‘resources’.
Opt: Lol ALL CELEBS should shut down their socials now. Requests from celebs are annoying.
I would’ve guessed George Soros as ‘billionaire bailout boy’ but in 2010 few, in USA, knew his name. Foreign money in USA politics under guise of charity was his gig & he kept very low profile.

The Billionaire: No idea, but my best guess is Oprah.
[Optional] Harry and Markle, since their non-profit products/causes only seem to be an effort to pad their bank account(s). Biggest example is their new travel thing. First of all, how can that possibly be called a non-profit? Second of all, such an organization is especially useless now, since no one is really traveling.

Billionaire – probably awful Bill Gates (or maybe Elon Musk?)
MADONNA for all time most annoying of everything and anything she gets involved in.
Whisper says
Most annoying: Where to start, they’re all annoying. First it would cost 18 celebrities just $55,5555 to make what they needed. What is so charitable about asking fans to foot the bill? Even $100,000 wouldn’t damage these people’s bank accounts as much as $100 would most people’s. The other thing is too many charities are garbage and I certainly wouldn’t trust these people to know or care about how the money is actually used.
