[Blind Gossip] When an actress is “not thrilled” about her ex’s new relationship, it’s because she is jealous, right?

Guess again.

It’s actually about sobriety.

She did try to keep the family together for a long time, but she’s past that. Now it’s all about keeping him sober for the sake of the kids. She literally spent years trying to get him away from his addictions, but instead of being grateful, he always hated that she was trying “parent” him.

[The New Girlfriend] is the opposite. She tells him that he is an adult and he can make his own choices! He thinks that she is cool because she trusts him and gives him permission to do whatever he wants.

[Ex] knows that this is a huge mistake because she lived with that addict for years and she knows how bad he can get. She knows that all these things (gambling, drinking, drugs, sex) are linked together and that if he does one it is just a matter of time before he relapses into the others. That is the real reason why she “isn’t thrilled” about this relationship.

    Having been in 2 relationships with substance abusers I learned the hard way that they will tell you what you want to hear and then do what they want anyway. Any kind of addiction is hard to live with but ultimately you have to do what is right for you and if the addict is ready for change, they will. Otherwise you expend all your energy trying to change them. I think Garner did this. Gave him so many chances, so many ultimatums and he did change, for a while. She needs to move on.

    Of course it’s Jen and Ben. He looks awful. And the girl he’s with now looks just as awful. Maybe they deserve each other.
    Will he change? No. All she can do is to continue being the best Mom she can and refocus her energies spent on him elsewhere.
    Question though- didnt she cheat/leave Scott Foley for Ben?

    Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck. She’s still trying to parent him. He IS an adult and is going to make his own choices. He doesn’t need permission from anyone and at the end of the day, he is going to do what he wants to do. She needs to let that/it/him GO and move on. I don’t believe that she has, not if she’s still monitoring him.

    No, he won’t be faithfully or sober. His new girlfriend looks like a dude, and she’s probably a drinking buddy. I have read that he’s been seeing Ms. Shookusallnightlong since 2013. I think he looks ill, like an alcoholic.

    No, I honestly do not. I know the signs of an active drinker and can see in Ben’s bleary, unfocused eyes that he’s off the wagon.     Jen Garner. They make this woman seem like a saint. She just might be. She’s never slandered Been and has always kept their issues as private as possible. This is the mark of a woman/person who has really loved another person. I believe she does this out of love for her kids AND out of love for Ben, even if she doesn’t want him for herself anymore. Kudos to you Jen Garner. The true definition of the long suffering wife.

    Do you think he will stay sober and faithful in this new relationship? His new or old (allegedly) SNL producer Shookus (sp?) is just his party rebound girlfriend. This isnt gona last. He’s unfortunately probably gona relapse, Shookus is gonna bail, and Jenns once again gona be their pick up the pieces until the next time…Sad situation for such a nice family.     Ben allegedly dating one of the women he cheated on Jen with who also cheated on her husband with Ben. Sounds like she may have her own set of issues so of course she will be an enabler.

    I feel bad for his kids and Jen since she tried so hard to straighten him out but you can’t force an addict to quit. They have to hit bottom and choose it for themselves.

    Probably not. Addiction is no joke and isn’t about making “adult choices.” Lindsay Shookus is either an addict as well, or she’s super jaded by the rampant drug use in the SNL circles.

His poor son won’t remember his dad when he wasn’t a mess at this rate. Poor Jen for trying so hard for so long to clean him up.     Staying faithful and sober is HIS CHOICE to make. He will if he wants to badly enough – AND works a Professional Treatment Program.

    Few people, least of all men, want to be ‘parented’ in a romantic relationship. If J became a ‘nagging mummy’ that would lead to him resisting and circling the drain with even more gusto. Now she’s using the kids as an excuse to nag.

      He is responsible for his behavior. She doesn’t deserve to be villified in any way. They don’t train you on how to deal with this behavior. She was trying to protect her kids, her husband and herself the best way she knew how. at least she tried.

    This is Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, he will not stay faithful to the new one, but I don’t think she expects him to. Sounds like she is ok with him doing whatever he wants as long as she is the one seen on his arm. So he needs to be discreet. As for the booze and drugs, I think Jen will still keep an eye on him because of the kids. He would probably lose joint custody rights if he got too bad.

How could she dismiss the long term debilitating effects it would have on her kids to grow up with a father that is a toxic, narcissistic addict and cheater?! Unbelievably selfish of her.
