[Blind Gossip] While both winners and losers gamely made the round of parties after last night’s Golden Globe Awards, there were two men in particular who were not in a good mood.

This actor was likely expecting multiple wins for his movie. That’s didn’t happen. He was deep in conversation with one of his colleagues at an after party.

They both looked pretty grim. [Actor] looked upset. He was shaking his head. The other guy had his hand on [Actor’s] shoulder and was saying to him, “Look, it’s just the foreign press. It doesn’t matter! It doesn’t matter! Remember 2018?” That was all I heard.

By “next”, he may have been referring to The Academy Awards. By “remember 2018”, he may have been referring to the fact that neither of the Golden Globe Best Picture awards (Three Billboards and Ladybird) went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture. That distinction went to The Shape of Water.

    Ugh, thirsty * Bradley Cooper. He bothers me SO much. He’s ambitious to a disturbing point. He can’t remotely hide the fact that he is not creating for the art but for the accolades. It’s pouring out of him. And the fact that he hides he constantly feels like he needs to be bearded and orchestrates this false life to stay in the spotlight’s good graces is just so off putting. I get an increasingly bad vibe from him and foresee his downfall relatively soon.

    Seriously, this movie is a remake. And not even the best of the remakes as in it’s inferior to the past ones.

    MOVIE: A Star is Born.
    I hope new director Bradley is not getting slapped down by Hollywood for making the jump from actor to director. Sort of like what happened with Angelina Jolie. The Green Book should win for Best Picture. I grew up during that era but younger people will be astounded–in a bad way–at how the south once treated African-Americans!

I haven’t yet seen many of the films that will probably be nominated, but have seen “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which definitely shouldn’t get the Academy Award for Best Picture as it’s the typical cliché-ridden biopic, with the most dreadful dialogue. Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma” is a wonderful film, but it will probably get nominated as Foreign Film as it’s in…

    Bradley Cooper for A Star is Born for the fourth time. He wanted best picture, best actor (Rami or Christian should win), best director .. but sorry! I thought the flick was good but not award winning

    Beale Street — The performances in ASIB are great, but they aren’t reinventing the wheel…it’s already been made 3 other times. Director instructions can only go so far.

    Optional: I liked A Star is Born much more than Bohemian Rhapsody. I also loved the performances in that one. As far asfwho should win? Eithwr A Quiet Place, A Star is Born, The Favorite, or 8th Grade. Just cause those were my favorites this year.

    Ugh…The Shape of Water was complete drivel. Movies now are just horrid. The ratio for successful movies would be 1 success for every 15 bombs. I’m sick of:
    a) going to theaters and sitting in a dirty, flea infested seat listening to people talk, eat, talk on their phones, play games on their phones, bring their brats and not control their behavior.
    b) Tired of “Super Hero” movies. There are, gasp…..people over 40 that could care less about this crap. Why do they keep making them?

      THIS. I go to about one movie a year. Even if the theater is almost completely empty, someone will sit near me and gab the whole time. It’s just not worth it anymore. I’m willing to wait for streaming.

      Re: Your point B – They keep making them because they clean up at the box office. Marvel has made billions on their MCU films. DC too, but their films don’t do as well. I’m over 40 (over 50, even) and I love those films. I grew up on comic books and they are a wonderful throwback to my childhood.

      I get that *you* don’t like these films, but clearly there are LOTS of people like me, with jobs and incomes, who still find a lot of enjoyment in those films.

      Oh god, yes, movies are just so terrible. Feels like either superheroes or Oscar bait. I don’t mind superheroes but there’s not enough originality. One of the reasons I can’t stand awards shows is there’s no magic anyway. Between the substandard work and the #metoo era, it’s hard to keep up the Hollywood veneer.

      If you’re going to talk about drivel, I’d say it’s what you just wrote. I go to the movies all the time and the seats are clean and comfortable. I enjoy the reaction of fellow patrons at the movies. I’m over 50 and I love the Marvel movies and, with facts, millions agree with me as they make millions of $, which is not random, but continuous over many years. If you don’t like them don’t go, but many millions go and enjoy them, which is what movies are for, entertainment.

      What * do you live in? I live in the Bay Area and the theatres here are clean, offer large leather recliners in air conditioned, well ventilated rooms and even serve restaurant food and cocktails delivered to your seat. Plenty of well written, incredibly acted films are aimed at adults — Green Book, First Man, . Seeing the Live Aid re-enactment in Bohemian Rhapsody on Dolby Atmos or IMAX with a packed audience was immersive and cant be replicated at home.

    Bradley Cooper for ‘A Star is Born’. He was royally screwed left right and centre, as was Gaga. Whether you like or dislike a movie is subjective but what Cooper did with ‘A Star is Born’ beats what Alfonso Cuaron did with ‘Roma’. I get the screenplay nod.

    Who should win the Oscar next month? A Star is Born. Best complete picture. I am genuinely surprised by how much i admired it. Cooper has no chance against Malek for best actor so give him director and movie.

    Personally I thought the movie was not good and was honestly surprised that it got as much praise as it did. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I haven’t seen a lot of the big movies like Bohemian Rhapsody or ASIB. I wouldn’t exactly be surprised if the tables turned for the Oscars, especially considering how shocked people were about this snuff.

    Lesson: please don’t make a remake (Bradley and GaGa) of a remake (Kris Kristoffersen and Barbra Streisand) of a remake (Judy Garland and James Mason) from the original (Janet Gaynor).
