Shutting Up A Childhood Friend

[Blind Gossip] What is the cost of shutting up a childhood friend with an embarrassing story to tell?

This current Hollywood action star was concerned when he heard that a childhood friend was a little too eager to tell a story that he found embarrassing.

When he was about 8 or 9 he did a sleepover at [the friend’s] house and wet the bed. Word got back to him that [the friend] was telling the story. He gave him $5K in exchange for a promise never to tell the story again and to deny that it was true if anybody asked. [The friend] took the money.

Supposedly there were no lawyers or contracts involved. Just a simple promise that the actor hopes the friend will keep.

    A current star? That makes me think this could be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Very few actors would have their public persona threatened by this kind of story but someone like the Rock who is known for being huge and tough would probably prefer this one didn’t get out. Sure, he makes fun of himself sometimes, but it’s one thing to laugh at a fanny pack. It’s quite another to admit to bladder incontinence.

    I don’t know who this is, but I doubt that it is any of the comedic action stars (like any of the Chris-es). They seem pretty willing to share embarrassing stories on their own for publicity. I also doubt that it’s a veteran action star, because the bribe was pretty small and not getting a NDA is amateurish.

    Actor: Maybe Tom Cruise? He seemed obsessed with shutting down any negative press about himself. It’s a little strange to be ashamed of something that happened so long ago and is relatively common behavior for kids. Sarah Silverman titled her autobiography “The Bedwetter” in honor of her little “problem” growing up. It’s better to laugh about it then try to cover it up.

    If he were 18/19 then maybe I’d be a little concerned about someone speaking out but 8/9 your a kid. I don’t think it’s that big of a problem.

    No clue who this might be though.

    I don’t know who the actor is, this shows that people will do anything for a buck and fifteen minutes of fame, and no, I don’t think he did the right thing I see blackmail in the future especially if didn’t have the guy sign a contract. The guy is a jerk.

    Don’t know who this is but a kid wetting the bed accidentally doesn’t sound that embarassing to me. Some kids have accidents from time to time.

    Who cares if he wet the bed on a sleepover? As long as he’s not currently doing it, how is this so embarrassing?

    Actor should go on one of the late night talk shows and tell the sleepover story himself – he’ll beat his friend to the punch and he’ll seem relatable and sensitive.

    No idea on the action star. He did not do the right thing. Unless there were lawyers and contracts involved it seems the action star has no recourse. He is better off telling the story himself. There are multiple reasons for bed- wetting and especially in a child. Get ahead of the story and become the face of bed-wetting in children. No shame- many reasons for it happening. And kick that “friend “to the curb.

    Wow, the action star is terribly insecure caring about this story going public. That the action star bribed his “friend” is his shame, it’s not wetting the bed.

    I don’t know who this is but a child, even of that age, wetting the bed is no big deal and he shouldn’t be embarrassed about it. Let the so-called friend tell; she or he will be the only one looking foolish.

    Optional: I think he did. Why should he be publicly or even privately humiliated over something he did unwillingly as a child?

    Not sure who the action star is. Even if the childhood friend decided to talk, he’s the one who will look like the a-hole. If it did come out, the action star’s response should just be, “So what.” That shuts people up because if he acted as though he cared, it would only fuel the fire. Not caring about something like this can be quite liberating.
