Serve Our Children

[Blind Gossip] This very wealthy couple with a famous last name dined almost every day at the same high-end restaurant.

They did not dine alone.

They brought two large teddy bears with them. The bears were given their own seats and place settings and and the couple called them “our children.”

The wait staff had to act like this was all perfectly normal. They would say things like, “Each of our children may have one glass of wine tonight,” or “He’s been a good boy and he would like dessert,” and we would have to serve the bears wine or cake as if they were people. No, I’m not kidding.

The weirdest thing that happened was at Christmas. They gave each of the bears a gift: A Rolex watch! The staff had to stand around and watch them as they unwrapped the watches and put them on the bears’ wrists and exclaim how beautiful they were. It was crazy.

By the way, while they were giving their stuffed bears $10,000+ Rolexes, they were only tipping our wait staff the minimum!

The couple are heirs to a major automotive company. You probably would not know them individually, but the company name came from their last name.

    This is seriously weird. They should have given the rolexes to the staff.
    Everyone knows that bears don’t care what the time is as every time is tim tam time …..(yummy chocolate biscuits here in Australia)

    I don’t know what family these people are from but it sounds like they follow an elite-established set of rules and rituals the rest of us are clueless to discern.

    No idea who it is, but I have lived in the land of the (former) Big Three for a long time. This is probably not one of the Ford family – Anything this odd and this public from one of the Ford family would have been common knowledge a long time ago. I’m not saying there aren’t a few eccentrics amongst them, but this isn’t their flavor of weird.

    I’m guessing that this is a scion of one of the european oriented brands- though if they were tipping (albeit lamely) this is probably the US.

    I’d like to know what’s considered the “minimum” tip? Is it 10%? (Not an American here)

      As a server, standard tip should be 18%. We make server minimum wage here – not minimum wage – so when you are making $3 hourly and then tables leave you only $3 it really sucks. A lot of people don’t seem able to grasp the concept that we have bills to pay, too.

    I don’t know who this is – but I’m very impressed that you found an EXACT photo to represent the story!

    Sounds sad with shades of mental illness to me. Sad because perhaps the couple were desperate for a baby, couldn’t conceive and are now playing families with toys. Quite heartbreaking.

    When I read “the company name came from their last name,” I wondered if it was Alfa Romeo.
    The Alfa Romeo company was originally known as ALFA, an acronym for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. When Nicola Romeo bought ALFA in 1915, his last name was added.

    I have no idea of the family name…Ford, Dodge, Olds…but if they do this in public what are they doing in private? Those poor bears.

    Family Ford?
    Quite eccentric. Sweet and harmless. They are not shy since they put this show on in a restaurant Maybe they wanted it to make the news.

    The Fords. I know when Matt Millen was kept on as the Detroit Lions G.M. year after dismal year, I always wondered what he had on the Fords. Hmmm…
