The Mediocre Daughter

[Blind Gossip] It is not unusual for children to follow their parents’ wishes when it comes to choosing a profession.

Not that it’s always a good idea.

Think back to The Godfather: Part III.

Do you know who Director Francis Ford Coppola originally wanted to play the role of Mary Corleone, the daughter of Michael Corleone?

Julia Roberts.

It’s true. However, Julia Roberts was not available.

After testing a few other actresses – including Madonna – Coppola made Winona Ryder an offer she couldn’t refuse. Ryder accepted.

When it came time to film, Ryder showed up on set with her volatile boyfriend at the time, Johnny Depp.

Uh oh.

Ryder had some sort of medical emergency or break down within twenty four hours of arrival.

Drama!

Depp called Coppola and told him that Winona Ryder was not going to be able to do the movie.

At the last minute, Coppola wound up casting his own daughter, Sofia Coppola, in the role. She was 19 at the time and he wanted her to become a movie star.

She bombed… and took the movie down with her!

The moral of the story is this: As much as a parent might want something for their child, it doesn’t mean that the child has the talent to pull it off.

That brings us to today.

These two famous actors may not be doing their child any favors when it comes her career.

Daughter recently did a movie.

It wasn’t good. Actually, it was bad. Not just the movie. Her. Any kid who’s ever done a high school play could have done better than her.

Her parents are both talented actors but she just doesn’t have that “it factor.”

Ouch.

Her parents keep telling her how great and talented she is and how she’s going to be a big star when she is really just incredibly mediocre. Maybe even less than mediocre.

They seem to have a blind spot when it comes to her.

Her parents are supposedly really pushing her acting career.

Her parents connection will probably help her continue to land roles for a while, but on her own she would not make it in this business.

Sofia Copp0la was not successful as an actress, no matter how badly her father wanted that for her.

However, Sofia Coppola did find great success as a writer and director.

In fact, she wound up winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Lost In Translation!

Nothing mediocre about that!

Sofia Coppola would never had that kind of success if she had stayed with acting.

The Daughter in our blind item might also be better served forging her own path in life away from acting.

Perhaps she should have a little chat with Sofia Coppola?

    It says both parents are actors, so I think that rules out Lily Rose Depp as her mother is a singer and Iris Law as her mother is a fashion designer, even though I think both have acted a little. I think both Sosie Bacon and Maya Hawke can actually act, so I’m leaning toward Dylan Penn as both parents are are well known actors and Flag day got so-so reviews.

      It’s Maya Hawke (daughter of Uma and Ethan). She starred in “Mainstream” last year. It was a huge flop and her performance panned. Gia Coppola directed it and she is related to Sofia Coppola, hence all the Sofia references in the BI.

      Maya was great in the PBS adaption of Little Women and people say she’s good in Stranger Things, plus Tarantino cast her in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and has suggested she would star in the third Kill Bill

      Have you seen Zola? She is incredible in that movie, and completely became that character. I didn’t know who she was and looked it up afterward, because the acting was that good.

      Leave Jason Schwartzman out of this, he can act and surprisingly has a pretty solid band Coconut Records. As far Paltrow, she can act but she doesn’t really have range.

    Could be so many mediocre offspring of famous people, but I’ll go with Sosie Bacon who has a great name but probably not the talent to match it.

    Sofia C is one of my fave directors (her “Marie Antoinette” was EXQUISITE), but yeah, she is a terrible actress.

      Sosie Bacon has her parents’ chops, even from her teen years, & she has honed her craft for more than a decade. Didn’t you see her in Mare of Easttown? Great performance.

      I agree with MizGrandma-I haven’t seen her in a lot, but Sosie Bacon seems like the real deal to me.

      I’m sure Kate enjoyed nepotism early on, but she was nominated for an Oscar for Almost Famous. She’s also diversified her career into other endeavors that are doing pretty well.

    I don’t know who the daughter and her parents are. But, I did see Godfather III. I don’t recall Sophia’s performance. It might have been bad; I just don’t remember. But I do remember Pacino and he stunk. He played a caricature of himself and it was hilariously pathetic. Diane Keaton’s performance was almost as bad his his.

    Too many untalented daughters to choose from…so many have been foisted on us. Daughters of Lisa Rinna/Harry Hamlin, Bruce Willis, Cindy Crawford, Lori Laughlin, Kardashians…I’m too lazy to look up more.

    The only ones I think that have at least some talent are Margaret Qualley and Lily-Rose Depot.

    There are so many nepo kids in Hollywood at the moment. I would say Lily Rose Depp, she always has the same expression and keeps getting roles. Her last movie was a flop. Unfortunately I doubt she can do anything else having left school at 15.

      I think Dakota Johnson is pretty good. I have only seen her in Bad Times at the El Royale. I didn’t know it was her until I looked up the cast list because I was so impressed by her performance.

    I’m gonna guess Willow Smith. Maybe Rumer Willis.

    As an aside, I’ve long been in the distinct minority when it comes to Julia Roberts’ talent. She’s achieved the highest heights in H’wood; yeah, she’s made a * ton of money, but then some of us remember her “A Low Vera” period, when she decided that she wanted Danny Moder despite the fact that he was married – and damn the torpedoes, she’s gonna get what she wants.

    And Kaia Gerber is not an actress, but don’t even get me…

    Nepotism- Gwyneth Paltrow, Dakota Johnson & Melanie Griffith, Scott Eastwood, Kate Hudson & her 2 brothers, many more. Hollywood is nothing BUT nepostism for acting and modelling.

      Not sure Scott Eastwood got any real breaks, but if he did, he was worth it. He’s worked his way up, & he is good. Gonna get really big.
