[E Online] It took surviving an abusive ex to make Jenny McCarthy learn how to love herself.

Speaking at a product launch for a hair product, the Sirius XM radio host and TV personality opened up about a four-year toxic relationship with an ex-boyfriend, who she did not name.

“What I thought was gonna be a typical relationship, turned into a relationship that you would never think you would get yourself into. Especially me. I mean, I really consider myself to be pretty strong-willed and confident, even back then,” McCarthy said. “But I did find myself being slowly manipulated in to a very, very dark, abusive—verbally abusive—relationship that could have easily killed me.”

She later told E! News exclusively that she decided to open up about her ex because she felt empowered by Schwarzkopf Gliss’ campaign slogan [“Beautiful by Choice”].

“It reminded me that beauty is not just a physical attribute, it’s something much more deeper and  expands beyond anything on the outside,” she said. “And I thought about the things that I thought were beautiful and things that I overcame and I wanted to share something that I thought was beautiful, which is self-love.”

In her speech, McCarthy said that her mind was “turned completely inside out” throughout her abusive relationship.

“I no longer had my own thoughts. They were replaced with his thoughts about me,” she said. “That I was worthless, disgusting, talent-less, ugly, fat, smelled so badly. I was no longer worthy of being kissed.”

She later realized that it took her “four years of excruciating, verbal abuse” to  learn what self-love means.

“In that moment, I found my accountability in the hell I was living in,” she said. “The path to loving yourself requires you to stop putting the blame on others and observe the choices you make that got you there. It wasn’t his job to love me. It was mine,” she said. “So I chose to finally get the hell out of that relationship. I chose to be powerful not powerless.”

    This is precisely how Carey treated his gf who OD’d.
    I thought he was a genius the first time I saw him on In Living Color. When he did his fireman character it freaked me out. He also freaked me out in The Mask. Hollywood needs to stop hiring abusers! With Carey, Casey Affleck, Louis C.K., Danny Masterston, Johnny Depp, Billy Bob Thornton on the prowl-no one is safe in L.A. And that’s the tip of a revolting iceberg!

    As for her and Donnie – She wanted a hook up she got it then she got him to put a ring on it so she could exploit his fans for her benefit. They are the only ones who still think Jenny is relevant.

    Many comedians are known to have really dark sides to their personalities. Just look at Robin Williams.

    She fits a niche… like funny model hostess type. A million jobs in Hollywood for talking heads with a pretty face and ambition. Thing is that is kinda all she is and while she made controversial statements that put her in the press and got her ON THE VIEW, they ultimately got her booted as well.

    It looks like she’s had several relationships of roughly four years: Ray Manzella, her ex-husband John Mallory Asher, and Jim Carrey. The latter two have not come across well in the press at points, while the first seems to be considerably older, with three ex-wives. I wouldn’t be hugely surprised if any one of them were the guy; she doesn’t seem to be great at picking them. She and Donny Wahlberg are coming up on four years this year–it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out.

    I would not be surprised if this was Jim Carrey, taking into cobsideration his treatment of his ex Cathriona who ended up committing suicide. He suffers from mental illness, and while that’s not a free pass to treat others like garbage, it can be a common issue in close relationships, him projecting into others.

    I think Donnie & Jenny are great together. Donnie is still so hot! Saw him in concert the past few years.

    Judging by the way he treated Cathriona, the girlfriend who killed herself, I can imagine Jim being a very controlling and abusive man.

    Yeah, Jenny and Donny seem happy together. I have watched their show a few times, and they seem kinda immature to me, and a bit goofy, but I think they’re a good couple.

    I don’t think it was the ex-husband, John Mallory. Because it was he who left her right after her kid was diagnosed with autism. Kinda sad really, I read somewhere that he just couldn’t handle it.

    Don’t tell me this is Jim Carey? Years ago I watched them on Oprah she was talking about her son’s illness, she said how amazing Jim was with her son and the close bond they have she seemed so happy. As for Donnie there has been blinds about her using him and cheating on him and how his family don’t like her? I cannot see this lasting unfortunately. She strikes me as ambitious.

      I chose Carrey (2005-2010) over her manager Ray Manzella (1994-1998) because abusers are typically on their best behavior the first year. You don’t really realize what you’ve gotten into with a verbally abusive partner because it starts off so well and the abuse is so subtle. Don’t ask how I know. 🙁

    FML. That’s the life I’ve led for 20 years. The only way out for ME, is to have another heart attack, hopefully fatal this time.

    She’s probably talking about Jim Carrey, which makes me sad. I love him, but I clearly have BAD tastes when it comes to men.

    To any girls out there in a similar situation…RUN AWAY, GET AWAY, ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THE “life” YOU WILL HAVE WITH AN ABUSER. ALONE is BETTER. Believe me. I’m too old and have NO resources to get OUT. RUN. GO. Save yourself…

    Yeah, they seem to be compliment each other well. Donnie is a confident kinda guy and not a smile on the outside, and wretchedly insecure, controlling weirdo in private. Carrey is scary. His last GF wasn’t so lucky.

    She was with him for about that long…and if whats in the news past few years is true hes far from what he portrays in the movies. I mean i know its just a role…but yikes!!?. I was truly shocked with allegations from his ex who died. Hes really not a nice person in real life. So i can see this being him. He was my favorite actor in the 90’s/ 2000’s too. Again i was shocked with recent reads about him.

    I don’t know why, but I get the sense this is Jim Carey. After hearing about that poor Irish girl he dated and how she committed suicide after he (allegedly) gave her stds… somehow, thus sounds similar. There were all those text messages where he sounded very cold and cruel.

    The only one I can think of that lasted that long was JIm Carrey. I suppose it could be ex husband John Asher. Didn’t Carrey have an addiction problem with prescription meds? That could lead to ugliness.

    I think she and Donnie seem to fit together, but who knows? The way Hollywood marriages are, they could split tomorrow!

      Also she spoke openly at one point about Jim fighting depression. Not forgiving or excusing abusive behavior but that may be synonymous with the melancholy and/or a spiral downward.
