[Blind Gossip] It turns out that the names released in the Operation Varsity Blues college admissions scandal were just the tip of the iceberg!
While Federal authorities were focused on recent cheaters, there is a longer list that goes back several years.
One of the famous names on the list? One of the biggest superstars, ever, in the business world!
Despite his billions – yes, BILLIONS – and his world-famous name, this tech titan consulted with William “Rick” Singer, the college admissions adviser who masterminded the cheating scam, about getting his child/ren into a top university.
Rick Singer used to brag that [Billionaire] was his client.
Think of the most famous names in tech and you will guess who this is.

I’d have the sads if this were Bill and Melinda Gates. Hope not.
I have no regrets about college. I had no money, had scholarships and worked multiple jobs to get through. Went to a top university for my first degree, a state school for one masters and a private school for another. I paid my own way and am proud of that. My kid worked her butt off in her sport, played NCAA sports, studied hard and she too deserved what she worked for.
I am beyond disgusted by the current scandal. Losers.

Bill Gates – having rich or smart or savy parents does not mean that your children will be smart. Far from so. From the outside most think they never will have to be or have to work. I thought for years they kids were getting into these schools through special means. No way so many privileged children were smart – look at Paris Hilton.
Looking back i am happy with the two degrees i have. I also did extra study to specialise. Would love the time and opportunity to study more.

Operation Varsity Blues covers the last eight years, so I’m guessing this was a client longer ago. Bill Gates’ oldest kid is only 22 and the others are younger.
This might be about Steve Jobs. One of his kids is a little older than Gates’ oldest, she doesn’t seem to have a career or anything. Maybe dad wanted to pull strings for her to go to school? “Tech titan” makes me think either Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. I can’t think of anybody in tech bigger than either of those two. I just checked and Bill’s daughters went to Julliard and Stanford; a couple of Steve’s kids went to Stanford and Harvard, so it could literally be either one of them.
This is a really sad question for me because I’m about to graduate! I have a lot of things I wish I had done, but right now I’m just trying to live it up while I still have the time.

Oops forgot Optional: I did not take school seriously enough when I was in college as a kid. If I could do anything differently, it would be more driven and focused with better study habits – mainly because I am currently in my mid-40s, taking prerequisites, and applying to grad schools, but am not getting acceptances due to my low GPA from my younger college years (even though I am current grades are mostly all A-). I have few life regrets but that is one of them.

I would have gone to class more and taken college more seriously. I went to a Big 10 school and I did ok scholastically so I didn’t need help getting in but I didn’t try to get into any “dream” schools – I was told “state school, 4 years” that is what my family would pay for. I got into every school I applied to, but I earned it and I joined a bunch of extracurricular clubs my senior year to help me out on the applications. EARN it!

Well Gates, Jobs, and Buffet children have attended Stanford. Any of them could have simply donated x million directly to the school to receive preferential treatment, and would have because of the family name anyway. I truly don’t understand what the uproar is over this “scandal”. The rich have been buying their kids ways into college for generations. “Take my kid, I’ll build you a science building on campus,” or “I’m an alum, and I donate money, so my kid is a legacy. Let her in,” and “Here’s $50,000, make sure my kid gets in as a crew team recruit.” It’s all the same thing. Also, while it isn’t ethical, to be sure, exactly what law is being broken by cheating on an SAT…
scumby says
MAIL AND TAX FRAUD. faking SAT scores and falsifying athletic skills.
kc1977 says
Me too. I know I’m supposed to be outraged that they used their positions for such but I’m like “meh”
ezraprincess says
You must not have read the details of the “scandal” this isn’t rich parents buying a building or making a donation to get their kids in. These parents are undermining a entire national testing system to start, as well as getting their children falsely “diagnosed” with a learning disability so that they can cheat easier. As a mother to two dyslexic children who have 504 status, it is as disgusting and the equivalent of a munchausen parent. It’s taken decades for truly disabled to get rights
jonesing says
The uproar is that the money from this particular group of people is going to a slush fund for bribing coaches and others. If I donate $5 million dollars to an Ivey League school for little Sue/Billie to get in, that money will benefit the whole school and probably help a scholarship student or two. This however was just a secret group of creeps getting the money on the dl and keeping it for themselves and to top it off, the “donors” where taking it off their taxes. It was a sham charity.
High Steppa says
not to mention the parents were able to deduct their bribes from their taxes because Rick Singer set it up as a non-profit. So there’s tax fraud as well.
