Producers Humiliated Jennifer Lawrence Over Her Weight

[Elle] Jennifer Lawrence shared some of the “degrading and humiliating” experiences she has had in Hollywood.

After acknowledging that hearing about the sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein had been “harrowing,” Lawrence recounted a story about the producers of an unnamed film, who asked her to lose weight.

“One girl before me had already been fired for not losing enough weight fast enough,” the actress said. “And, during this time, a female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me. And we all stood side-by-side with only paste-ons covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”

Lawrence is known for speaking her mind, yet she says that didn’t make a difference on this specific occasion. “I asked to speak to a producer about the unrealistic diet regime and he responded by telling me he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was perfectly ‘f*ckable.’

The actress recalled that she felt “trapped” due to her relative lack of power: “I couldn’t have gotten a producer or a director or a studio head fired. I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt like I had to for my career. I was young and walking that fine line of sticking up for myself without being called difficult, which they did call me, but I believe the word they used was “nightmare.”

“I didn’t want to be a whistleblower. I didn’t want these embarrassing stories talked about in a magazine. I just wanted a career,” Lawrence said. But after she was cast in the Hunger Games films, things changed—because she had become “a movie star,” who had “the power to say no.” “I worked out every day because Katniss is strong, but I would be damned if I was going to represent the ideal that someone who looks skeletal is a positive body image. I was not going to have young girls skipping dinner because they wanted to look like Katniss.”

    The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Scarlett Johansson was fired from the movie for being “too sexy.” Jennifer Lawrence also auditioned for it, but was deemed “too tall.”

    Not sure who the producers were, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the male one she mentioned is Scott Rudin.

    I would tolerate the line up with underwear. I would not agree to anything less than that. If a producer called me f–kable, I would tell him that it is not his place to say so and call him unf—able.

    Honestly, this one sounds like a PR story designed to draw attention away from the bad press JLaw has been getting lately (first the Harvey Weinstein situation, then the dropout story).

    It’s horrible that many women in the industry were treated that way. I’m so glad that they have found the courage to speak up now, and blow the lid off of these despicable people involved.

    This sounds like X Men because of her role as Mystique, which would have required her to be nude and have tons of makeup. The timing also works here.
    I don’t know what I would have done a few years ago, but I feel the MeToo movement is empowering women to stand up for themselves and call out this behaviour.

    I’d have to bite my tongue keep my temper in check if I wanted the role and a future in Hollywood. I’d chalk it up to a learning experience. I’m not exactly a snowflake and wouldn’t melt over these humiliating experiences, nor would I forget the slights. The entertainment industry is a tough market and you’ll constantly be judged on your looks. Be prepared to deal.

      My cousin was a model – good enough to make her living at it for a few years. She said comments like this were common. You just learn to grow a tough skin. You are judged on your looks. People aren’t always kind; it can be seriously cutthroat. The ones who have made it feel entitled to pile on the ones who are scrambling at the bottom. It’s kind of like the seniors picking on the incoming freshmen to show their power.

    I feel like she made this story up, and there is no answer. I don’t doubt she has been harrassed in her career. But this story seems like a press release. I give it no stars.

    No, You weren’t going to have young girls skip dinner but you had no qualms about letting the next up and comer stand naked in front of others to be humiliated and used.

      So, AnotherNIC2Remember, how could she have stopped girls from being humiliated at that time? Or even at this time? She had relatively little power, and does not have access to the schedules of the predators in the industry. This is like blaming the victim and excusing the behavior of the perps in your haste to blame Jennifer for the slimy actions of the scum of Hollyweird. Tell me you would risk losing your career and wealth to expose those in power, and I will take you seriously.

      Oh yeah, promoting RED SPARROW while trying to deflect all the Weinstein rumors and lies about her educational background. She’s about to fall from grace and fall hard. Seems Harvey WAS looking out for her and not only is he gone but her peers are turning on her because they think she ‘compromised’ to make it big and is pretending she had no clue.

      I agree. I always said this on this site. I notice when celebrities of this caliber are thirsty for fame they reach out to a kardashian in hopes to stay relevant . I don’t know why celebrities feel they need to be in any Kardashian’s graces but it just screams THIRST!!

    This is interesting, considering I met Jennifer at an Xmen movie premiere a few years ago and she was seriously bone thin.

      “I was not going to have young girls skipping dinner because they wanted to look like Katniss.” How does this even make sense? Katniss was very thin and in great shape, most people would strive to look like that easily leading them to skip meals and over-workout.

      These must be the stories Ace has mentioned to distract what’s really going on with her. Her lies are incredibly horrible and her staff need to hire a better crisis management team. This isn’t helping her one bit she was sort of defending Weinstein and now she wants to call people out for fat shaming? Listen red sparrow, there’s bigger fish to fry!
