This actor is in the middle of a battle with his actress wife. While he is lining up depositions and witnesses and documentation, we are being told the following:

It is all for show. He told [his counsel] that he will not go to trial. He has already decided that he is going to settle.

So why prolong the agony? Why doesn’t he simply settle today?

The more witnesses/documentation/ammunition [she] thinks he has against her, the more likely she is to settle for a lesser amount. He knows that he is going to pay, but estimates that all this posturing and intimidation will cut the payout by AT LEAST $10 million. He’s not going to give her one penny more than he has to.

It’s over!

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have successfully negotiated a divorce settlement!

As we told you just ten days ago, this was never going to go to trial AND Johnny Depp’s team was fighting hard to minimize the amount of the payout. We were right about both things.

Here are some of the really rough numbers we were working with: Depp is worth $300-400 million and Heard is worth much less, but divorce settlements typically cover only the joint earnings in the time period during which the couple was married.

The couple together made approximately $45-50 million during their short marriage. Less taxes and expenses, we’re down to $30-35 million.

Heard was looking for a settlement in the $15-20 million range, which was too high a figure. As we told you in the original blind item, Depp was looking to trim $10 million off of that amount. He was looking to pay in the $5-10 million range.

Depp and Heard settled for $7-8 million (basically $7 million plus attorney’s fees). Bingo. There’s the sweet  spot.

Additionally, the domestic abuse charges against Depp have been dropped; he’s going to pay her legal expenses; and the couple has released the typical “it’s all good” joint statement:

Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.

The statement was written by Heard’s team, but Depp’s team apparently approved its release as a joint statement. The wording is very interesting and you can parse the statement for hidden meanings, but the crux of it is: they’re done fighting.

Finally, it’s important to note that there wasn’t a winner and loser in this case.

A divorce settlement is simply the conclusion of a business deal between unhappy partners. It feels really ugly and really personal when they are in the thick of it, but both parties will walk away and move on with their lives and their careers. This whole ordeal could be a mere footnote on their biographies. Neither of them is poor or homeless or is going to starve.

Both will have to make some repairs to their reputations.

UPDATE!

We knew that Amber Heard’s team had written the “joint statement”, but they also claimed that they had Depp’s team’s approval.

Well, it turns out that wasn’t true!

Amber Heard’s public relations team just admitted that they DID write the statement… but that they did NOT get the approval of Johnny Depp’s team before releasing it as a “joint statement.”

Not only that, they say that Amber didn’t approve the statement either. The latter sounds like an attempt to distance her from her PR team’s mistake.

They have now retracted the entire statement.

That was messy!

    He doesn’t have to do anything to her career to have it stall…it never really got out of the stall. She does have the Mera role in two films, but she’s so NOT special or interesting, she will probably be cut out of most of the film. Being pretty is simply not enough. They both have leverage in this settlement negotiation and hers is the NDA. He has to get that and Wasser will not relent. She’s hiding her drug use and her casting couch romps so he will use that against her.

    The best that could ome out of this mess is that he straightens himself out, gets clean and in shape and continues to make great movies that we enjoy. For her, she learns valuable life lessons and gets herself on track and continues with her career. She did have to put up with a lot (drunkenness, hiding away with other drunks, being a slob, verbally abusing her and the whole phone thing,) so, she does deserve some of his money. Hopefully they’ll both move on and do fine.

    [Optional] How much do you think she will walk away with? No clue. However, considering the length of the marriage and how little she likely contributed, I don’t think she should get anything. I’m not a big Depp fan, but her behavior post split was ridiculous, and I think she married him for money and fame only.

    Johnny, you should go to court if you’re innocent of beating on Amber. You need to let her hang herself by lying under oath, she deserves it, especially if she lied about domestic violence being committed against her.
    I wish she would get nothing, but since he was fool not to sign a prenup she will get something. He should offer her a hundred thousand for the duration of the marriage since it only lasted 5minutes

      I agree. Reports are that he made $30 MIL during the marriage. She would be entitled to half. But that would be half less living expenses during that time. I think he will settle at 5 but she’ll want more and will prob get it if she signs an NDA. She will prob get the Loft and a car too.

      I genuinely believe him when he has stated in interviews that it was Vanessa who didn’t wanna get married to HIM. Look at his track record with prior relationships.

      Amber should walk with 1/2 of what he made during their 15 month marriage, if there was indeed no prenup. Less 1/2 of what SHE made during the marriage, and both should pay their own legal fees.

      A civil suit for the (alleged) physical abuse should be adjudicated separately from divorce proceedings.

    She needs to hold out for all she can get from him. He is doing everything he can to destroy what there is of her acting career all because she dared to make public what others have been willing to help him hide. He’s an abuser and his entourage are enabling him so they can keep benefitting from being around him. Disgusting.

      Thank you for saying that! Did everyone else not read the other blinds about him? She is not the first one he has abused and she actually had the courage to stand up to him knowing that he has powerful lawyers and people in the industry behind him. Good for her for showing Johnny Depp and others that just because you’re rich and famous, you’re not untouchable.

      Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. I don’t have sympathy for either of them. He is an abusive drunk who is not aging well, and she is a big old lesbian who glommed onto a rich famous man. No surprise it didn’t work out! There doesn’t seem to have been any reason for them to get married. She should get something for her efforts, though, that’s how it goes with the stinking rich – I don’t think ANYONE walks away with goose egg.

      I think with her it was about her career. I was look at johnnys past pictures with other women. She never once looked at him lovingly. Rider, Vanessa, Kate you could tell. But there is pictures of Amber with her ex girlfriend… Big difference. Big!

      I agree Katmandu, they both deserve each other. Neither are innocent. But with that said, she didn’t marry him for love. She deserves some money, but not more than $10 million.
