[Blind Gossip] Animal rights advocates have been putting pressure on the fashion industry forever to stop using fur.
They have succeeded in getting some designers to stop using fur in their collections… but not all!
This fashion icon from a major design house publicly stated that they will not be using fur anymore because it is cruel to the animals.
However, it’s a bit of a public relations fur farce. Why? Because, in private, they told friends that they were not personally giving up buying or wearing fur.
So it’s cruel to sell fur to you… but it’s not too cruel for them to buy it or wear it themselves!

I have complete respect for those who Never eat meat or fish and who Never wear leather shoes, belts, etc. Others who damn wearing fur but have no issue with leather, I do not respect as much. Cows are not cute and cuddly?
I do eat meat and do wear leather and occasionally fur.

I’m not a hypocrite. I fess up to eating beef (no pork) and wearing leather. Since I eat the meat and drink cow’s milk and not simply harvest them for fur or their hydes, it’s not the same. My personal opinion. The double talking airhead celebrity icon needs to just STFU and practice what they preach.

And they’re obviously just doing it bc that’s what’s expected of them, of course they don’t believe in it. What about leather? That’s not going anywhere.
I’m not a vegetarian and I wear leather all the time. Fur, doesn’t bother me but I don’t own anything with real fur.

No surprises there – a select group of people still view these items as “luxury”. It’s also a generational thing. Our parents were raised to see leather as “quality” and “luxury”. I think that’s changing.
We need better (and less expensive) vegan alternatives. Stella McCartney is fine if you can afford it.

So funny to see idiot celebrities protesting fur while wearing leather shoes, belts, jackets and even pants! Cows are much nicer (and more intelligent) animals than minks.
It’s also a very classist stance for the average person. It’s easy to give up what you couldn’t afford to buy to begin with.

No, I think wearing fur is cruel because the animals are raised in deplorable conditions and are skinned alive in agony. Leather is a by-product of the meat industry however as a vegan I no longer wear leather as there are animal free options.

This is such a diverse subject, ppl who aren’t vegan/vegetarians would be incredibly surprised at the inhumane process the meat at the supermarket is packaged and produced. Unless you want to pay higher prices, which ppl more often not.
As for wearing products, I can get it if its not for fashion but as protection in extreme climates. And if you are going to kill an animal then I understand using all aspects such as skin (leather.)
Raoul Duke says
But I am staunchly against poaching, trophy hunting, and recently have been sickened by zoos. I really don’t think animals should be kept in captivity. Especially intelligent animals who actively try to escape or are kept alone.
One of the saddest things I have seen is a bald eagle tethered in cage at the Corpus Christi Aquarium/Zoo. I hate it when people keep birds in cages.

I have tried to be vegan/vegetarian because I think we torture the animals before we eat them and that karma passes on to us. I say leave the little critters alone! Vegetables are healthier and better for you.
fiddlesticks says
I come from a small farming community and am one of few vegetarians even though we can see in our day to day lives that all animals feel pain and fear. I fail to understand how someone can have a cat or dog in their house and not acknowledge they are sentient beings. And then not be able to extend that to cows and sheep and any other animal that dies to serve human need for flesh in such a torturous manner that they must know what is coming. If you can’t personally kill it, don’t eat it!
