[Blind Gossip] This tall and very famous athlete has managed to stay in the spotlight even after retiring from his professional career. He loves being famous, and his unusual looks, quirky demeanor, and occasionally bad or controversial behavior have helped him stay in the headlines.

While he made millions as a professional athlete… he is now broke! He frequently visits a town in Southern California and relies on others to pick up the tab for him.

He comes here a lot but he doesn’t stay in a hotel. He crashes on his buddies’ couches. He hangs out at a local bar and bums drinks off of college kids. A few weeks ago, I was at a local market and he was in there buying a few groceries. I waited in line behind him and there was some sort of problem with his credit card. After talking with the cashier for a couple of minutes, he left with the groceries without paying for them. I overheard the cashier tell his associate, “Man, his credit card NEVER works!” I kind of felt sorry for him.

    I agree with the other guesses of Dennis Rodman. But where does he get the money to go to North Korea?? I believe he has been there six times.

    Many years ago, I saw DR with his entourage at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vega. I believe he spent a lot of time there. He blew his money on gambling, drugs, women, paying the way for the mooches, aka hangers on, stupid cars, and over the top material garbage.

    Charles Barkley is known to be grounded and frugal saying something like why do I need more cars when I can only drive one at a time . This has to be Dennis Rodman who had to pay out Assault money once from his foolish behavior and shrugged it off like it was nothing . ” Like Nothing ” adds up . The late J Paul Getty talked about how anybody can go broke even from being nickeled and dimed . Rodman has always been reckless and foolish with the dollar .

    Dennis Rodman. Dont judge people. Read his book first. Explains why he is the way he is. I feel kind of bad for him. When the Bad Boys fell apart, he lost the only “family” he had, and people took advantage. i hope he’s ok.

    I used to live near him at the beach and would pass the failed nightclub he had on PCH often. This is Dennis “The Worm” Rodman. He would drive around Newport Beach in his black Mercedes with flames on the sides. He is so gross. Not that many locals were fans for long, especially after he had someone land a helicopter on the sand in front of his house on the beach. Not cool at all.

    In his case, likely spent on a variety of high priced ‘entertainment’.

    Amazing how much money celebrities can blow through and in the end, when the party’s over and everyone’s gone home, have nothing to show for it.

    This I am afraid is Charles Barkley who is all of those things you’ve described . Where did his money go? Gambling and trying to keep up with his more successful famous friends like Michael Jordan and Tiger. I was in Vegas one weekend and at a casino where they closed off an entire craps table for Tiger and Barkley and other hangers on. Tiger pre scandal days ..wonder what else they were up to.

    I’ll guess Dennis Rodman. At one time he had a serious drinking problem, so maybe he blew his NBA cash on booze. That, plus all those flights to N. Korea.

    Dennis Rodman. No one should ever go hungry, but he should have managed his money better. I served his party at the height of his career. They were the rudest, least grateful group it was my displeasure to meet.

    IDK, but I have no sympathy if he blew through millions. I’d like to go to the store and repeatedly get free groceries, too.

    He blew all of his money. Do professional teams have a program where the athlete’s are taught the basics on money management? I have read stories about many famous athlete’s who lived the high life and now are broke.

      Good guess, but he hasn’t retired. He might not play again, but I don’t think they would refer to him as retired unless he makes it official.

      Yes, my husband was a pro athlete and they have money management classes and relationship counselors and therapists that stress how many people want to take advantage of them. They don’t listen.

      I know for a fact that it is not Colin! Fortunately, he didn’t blow all of his money, and he doesn’t live in SoCal. (At least not full time, but he does have family in Cali)

      Michael Phelps is extremely wealthy (from endorsements) and owns a beautiful home in Arizona. Can’t be him.

      It says he made millions as a professional athlete, which I would take to mean that he was paid for the athletic performance. Phelps’ income would have to come from endorsements.
