Bread And Butter Character

February 14, 2017 Blind Gossip

SOLVED!

UPDATED!

[Blind Gossip] This over-40 actor is claiming that he will no longer perform as a character that has brought him a lot of attention over the past year.

Is he telling the truth?

No.

HE’S NOT GOING TO STOP. [Actor] is loving the attention this brings him. He knows not to wear out the character by doing it too often, so he’ll do it often enough that they don’t replace him, but not so often that it gets annoying.

Comedic acting is his bread and butter, so he’s going to leverage the hell out of this for the next four years to promote his other projects!

SOLVED!

Actor: Alec Baldwin

Character He Plays: President Donald Trump

Alec Baldwin portrayed President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live last season.

He got great critical reviews, he helped SNL to great ratings, it helped him get publicity for his other projects (e.g. Boss Baby), and he played a person everyone was talking about every day.

So he said he was going to stop.

What?

From Entertainment Weekly:

Alec Baldwin on playing Trump: ‘I’m not going to do it much longer’

Although the actor has earned rave reviews playing the 45th president on Saturday Night Live, Baldwin told Extra that he intends to hang up the impersonation soon because he’s not sure how long viewers will be able to endure it.

“The maliciousness of this White House has people very worried,” Baldwin said in an interview with Mario Lopez. “That’s why I’m not going to do it much longer, the impersonation. I don’t [know] how much more people can take it.”

That was a big old LIE!

Alec Baldwin knew he had a hit on his hands. He was only threatening to stop so that he could milk it for more attention (to benefit his other projects) and for more money.

From The National Enquirer:

Alec Baldwin: Wants Big-League Bucks To Keep Playing Trump

Alec agreed to play Donald during the election … He accepted the job at ‘SNL’ for minimum pay — just $1,400 per appearance. But now that he could be joining the cast for years he wants more. “Alec is saying he hasn’t decided how long he will be on the show, but what he is really doing is holding out for more cash,” dished the insider. “Ironically, Trump is going to make Alec very, very rich.”

SNL series regulars make at least $500K per season. If Baldwin appears regularly (as Trump or other characters) that would be a considerable bump up from $1400 per week.

In summary, Baldwin is NEVER going to stop playing Trump!

And now he has an Emmy to show for his work! From Forbes:

Alec Baldwin Wins Emmy For ‘Saturday Night Live’ Donald Trump

He may not even be on Saturday Night Live’s regular cast, but his much-talked-about performance as President Donald Trump earned Alec Baldwin the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series on Sunday night. Saturday Night Live, which did not hold back in mocking Trump, his administration and his scandals, was both a critical and popular favorite this year, tying with Westworld for the most Emmy nominations (22) and enjoying its highest-rated season in 23 years.

Baldwin beat out Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Titus Burgess, Baskets‘ Louis Anderson—who took home the prize last year—Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, and Veep’s Tony Hale and Matt Walsh. Baldwin has been nominated for 18 Emmys—mostly for 30 Rock—throughout his career, and this marks his third-ever win. Baldwin was also nominated this year as Outstanding Host for Match Game, but lost out to RuPaul Charles at the Creative Arts Emmys.

“At long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy,” said Baldwin accepting the award, also joking that his orange Trump wig acted as birth control. “What we do is important; to all of you out there in motion pictures and television, don’t stop doing what you’re doing, the audience is counting on you.”

Congrats to Alec on his Emmy win!

Congratulations, too, to Craizins for being first with the correct response!

Kudos to Iamgreeney for being first to pick up on the Boss Baby illustration as a clue (Baldwin voices the lead character in the animated film)!

UPDATE!

Blind Gossip told you earlier this year that Alec Baldwin was lying when he said that he was going to stop playing President Donald Trump.

And now…. get ready to see Alec Baldwin play Trump on Broadway!

Alec Baldwin Plans To Take His Trump Impression To Broadway

Alec Baldwin has high hopes for his Donald Trump impersonation, which he has performed on “Saturday Night Live” ever since the 2016 presidential election.

The 59-year-old actor joined Howard Stern for an interview on Monday to promote his book, “You Can’t Spell America Without Me,” when he revealed that he’s planning to turn his Trump impression into a one-man show on Broadway.

Baldwin’s book, which he co-wrote with Kurt Anderson, presents a parody of Trump’s first year in office, according to Deadline Hollywood. With the help of “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels, Baldwin hopes to eventually turn the book into a Broadway play, starring him as Trump.

“We may take the book and make it into a one-man show on Broadway,” Baldwin said, noting that the rights to perform the impersonation belong to Michaels.

“What Lorne did do is give me permission to write this book,” Baldwin said. “My rendering of [Trump] is his intellectual property.”

“We’re all sick of the whole Trump as source of comedy thing, and I am too, but Kurt goes to another level,” the actor added.

Michaels is already producing a musical adaptation of Tina Fey’s “Mean Girls” that is expected to hit Broadway in the spring.

Seeing as he and Baldwin have a close working relationship it would be surprising to see the “SNL” creator turn the opportunity down. After all, Baldwin’s impression already won him an Emmy.

As we told you back in February: HE’S NOT GOING TO STOP!

PS: Alec, wash that greasy, uncombed mop on top of your head! You surely don’t expect the hair stylist for SNL to have to handle it without you caring for it first??

I’d say Alec Baldwin playing Trump is the obvious choice, except isn’t he more of an “Over-50-and-really-damn-near-60” than “Over 40”??

    Yep, Baldwin and Trump.
I do like his portrayal – I don’t necessarily think it’s as spot on as others I’ve seen, but he brings a certain something to the character. I remember a certain blogger who was talking about his impression vs others like Taran Killam. I did like Killam, but I agree that his take was almost too endearing, where Alec plays him in an even more exaggerated fashion but with this villainous undertone that is so very…

I haven’t watched SNL since Hartman died. I just don’t find it funny any more. Also, I have never liked any of the Baldwin brothers. They are all self-important * bags.

I can’t stand Alec Baldwin – he is a terrible human – calling his child a pig – and his portrayal of the president is disgusting. Trump will last all 8 years and will go down as one of the greatest POTUS ever. This country needs to heal, which is why I dislike these hateful comments and portrayals. It only keeps the divide going. We had to get thru 8 years of Obama and we didn’t act like crazy brats. I am ashamed of the people who violently riot and the lying media. Get over it. Enjoy the…

Highly ironic considering Baldwin is Trump’s liberal loud mouth hateful counterpart.

Well, Trump did promise to create jobs – and he’s certainly been good for the entertainment industry. Alec Baldwin’s never been hotter. Melissa McCarthy probably didn’t need the boost, but hey, she added yet another feather in her cap. And even Stephen Colbert is finally beating Fallon in the ratings. Life is good for the political comedian.

Alec is a lunatic- a maniac…he is a pitiful excuse for a human- the best show is how he attacks people outside his apartment building- the worst is how he attacks his older daughter!
