The Gift Of Publicity

[Blind Gossip] Plenty of celebrities do charitable things around the holidays.

Some of them make monetary donations. Some make donations of supplies. Some show up and do volunteer work.

The thing that is really fascinating to us is which ones contribute in a quiet way versus those who feel compelled to publicize their contribution.

An example of the latter is this thirsty couple, consisting of a TV actor from a famous acting family and his TV personality wife.

They did a nice thing by personally giving some money to a regular working person. At the time, they pretended that they were doing it quietly and walking away.

Ha! That quiet act of kindness lasted all of five minutes.

They simply could not keep that moment to themselves!

They jumped on social media to crow about their good deed.

They had a publicist contact the media to write articles about their gift.

They contacted the person they gave the money to let them know how to talk to the media about this.

So, all in all, it seems that the charitable gift… was really a gift of publicity to themselves!

    1st thing I thought of when saw them posting all about his 2020 tip to the ihop server….there are a lot of ‘celebs’ that do things and request that they stay anonymous … 1 in particular in Seattle

    Honestly, I don’t care that they sought publicity over it, or that it’s just a fraction of their net worth. It was a generous act and more people with extreme wealth should do the same.

    I’d love for someone to share their wealth like that, but like the blind says, the $2020 tip was basically nothing to them.
    He doesn’t seem like the self serving type to me and she’s been pretty low key too (I think) so who knows?

    I’ve always been taught that if you do it for some kind of public glory, it doesn’t “count,” and I believe that.

    So many people on you tube and TV (Ellen anyone) do this now for exposure. I’m glad people are being given these gifts more than I’m upset at those trying to benefit from it.

    Their tip is a lot of money for a server. Kudos to their generosity.

    The back-slapping and high-fiving themselves is beyond tacky.

    I don’t know who this is, but when I saw that Bill Gates gave the Alzheimer’s Association $10 Million I was impressed, until I did the math. He is worth $110 BILLION! That’s .1% or if he was worth $100,000, it would like donating $100.

    Hate the publicity. Real charity doesn’t need (public) acknowledgement. We had a major baseball player who routinely did good deeds, and it wasn’t made public until he retired. That’s how you do it.

    If you want to give a generous tip, do so. Bragging about how generous you are really cheapens the act of generosity.
