She was supposedly in her mid-twenties when she was chosen to play a college student in Pitch Perfect.

She was actually in her mid thirties at the time.

Well, there is a well-known TV actress whose real age is an even more substantial jump from her fake age!

She rose to fame when she starred in one TV series. She’ll be starring in another TV show next season. You’ve also seen her on tons of magazine covers in the past year.

The girl is busy!

Media reports for the past few years have her in her late 20s/early 30s.

Frankly, that’s not even close.

She is actually 44!

Articles about actress Laverne Cox (of Orange is the New Black fame) list her age as 32 years old.

However, earlier this summer, we found out that Laverne Cox has been lying about her age for years.

Laverne Cox is actually 44 years old!

That’s a substantial difference.

Laverne Cox has been listing her birth year as 1984 instead of 1972 for many years. In dozens of interviews in the past few years, she is reported to be 30-32 years old. Here is her Google bio:

However… Laverne Cox has an identical twin brother named M. Lamar. He has appeared in a couple of episodes of Orange is the New Black.

M’s IMDB record indicates that he was born in 1972 and is 44 years old.

Is it possible that Laverne Cox was born a different year from her identical twin brother?

Of course not!

In fact, Laverne Cox was ALSO born in 1972… making her 44 years old, too!

As you may recall from previous actor/age controversies, IMDB now only allow actors to post either NO age or CORRECT age information on its site.

Laverne Cox has NO age information on her profile, but her twin brother’s profile has his CORRECT age.

Her brother did change his age on other websites to match his sister’s lie, but he was unable to change it on IMDB.

As anxiety-inducing and nerve-racking as it can be, I absolutely love and adore acting. I am truly happiest when I’m on a movie or television set. I often feel like acting chose me instead of me having chosen to act. The first play I did at Marymount happened because a guest instructor by the name of Daniel Banks saw me walking down the hall in all my androgyny and said, “I want you in my play.” I was in the dance department. And it was a big deal at the time, doing a play in the theater department. The play was Max Frisch’s Andorra. I played the village idiot. The idiot in this play has no lines but simply grins and nods. Everyone said I stole the play, with no lines… at least that’s how I remember it.

In previous interviews, Cox has said that she briefly studied theater at Indiana University before transferring to Marymount College in Manhattan.

Our research revealed that the only time Daniel Banks directed the play Andorra at Marymount Manhattan College was in 1993.

If Laverne Cox was born in 1984… that means that she would have been a student at Indiana University when she was 7 or 8 years old… and then transferred to Marymount when she was 8 or 9 years old!

The truth is that Laverne Cox was born in 1972… performed in the student play at Marymount in 1993 at the age of 20 or 21… and is now 44 years old.

    I’m going with Shiri Appleby from Unreal for the win. No age on IMDB and there’s no WAY she can still be in her 30s.
    This blinds says 44. That would put her at 27 for Roswell which I totally buy.
    I think she rocks and if lying about her age is what gets her the role in Unreal I say go for it!

    This is obviously kaley Cuoco. I remember she was on a few episodes of Charmed and now that i looked up the ages of the other actresses on the show I’m convinced she’s as old as they are.

    I agree with all the guesses for Laverne Cox. “Frankly” = Dr. Frank N. Furter who she’s playing in the upcoming Rocky Horror remake. If you Google her twin brother’s bday, it usually comes up 1972.

    It’s Laverne Cox. Wiki says born in 1984 but I always thought that was suspicious. Her twin brother’s birth date is listed as 1972 on imdb, busted. She is awesome though and black truly does not crack

    So I did a bit of research. On IMDB it says she’s 32 years old, with her birthday being 29th May 1984. Then I remembered her twin brother appeared on an episode of OITNB so I looked him up and he’s 44, his birthday is 29th May 1972! How can her TWIN be 12 years older than her? Ridiculous.

    I have no idea…. It could been one of dozens. But I will say, as an actor I would not – and did not hesitate to use being mistaken as younger than my actual age to my advantage.

    After an aborted start at a career years ago, I attended an open call for actors 18 to 28 for the film Milk and was cast – I was 44. The next two years I worked regularly in background a bit roles, and some speaking parts in television – always cast as early to mid 30s.

    It’s an advantage in a hard business.

    Pretty sure it’s not Kristen Bell as I actually saw her in her first show on Broadway as Becky Thacther in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer when she left NYU. And doubt it’s Busy Phillips as she was at the same university as Linda Cardellini and Colin Hanks who are maybe 2-3 years different.

    Good for her (whoever she may be)! You don’t have to tell anyone your real age. In this business, sadly youth matters particularly with women. So if she can get away with it, do it girl!

    I have shaved 3-4 yrs from my age and don’t feel a bit bad about it, people often think I am in my mid-20’s and I am closer to mid 30’s.

    My best guess is Laverne Cox, who rose to fame on “Orange is the New Black” and has a role in the upcoming series “Doubt.” She has been on a lot of mag covers. Great skin, often wears a lot of makeup, so it’s possible she’s older. Wikipedia says she’s 32.

      I think you may have gotten it. IMDB lists Laverne’s twin brother, M. Lamar, as having been born in 1972… which would make him 44. Laverne’s IMDB bio lists 1984. Obviously it’s impossible to be 12 years younger than your own twin brother!

      This has got to be it. The New York Times has a mini-feature on her where they describe her as attending “Marymount Manhattan College in New York in the late ‘90s”. But she transferred in after two years at Bloomington, so if she were really born in 1984, she would be attending college at age 12. If she were born in 1972, on the other hand, that could make her a late blooming college student.

      But the kicker is that her identical twin brother’s birthday IS listed as 1972 on IMDB.

    I believe Catherine Zeta Jones is exactly 10 years older than she claims…however I believe even she comes clean with that she passed 44 many years ago so i am not sure who this is. I do think must be foreign born as its easier to fudge dates with no American birthdate.

    I don’t know who this is, but yes I have lied about my age because I look a lot younger than I am, and while some may think it’s flattering to be told you look young, it gets really annoying when you tell people the truth and they look at you like you have 3 heads, so it’s easier to lie or go with the age they guessed. I’m in my mid 30s and still have random people ask me how old I am, expecting that I’m early 20s. It does come in handy that I can still use my college ID to get discounts…

      I used to have the same experience myself, I always looked younger than I was. When I was younger it was annoying, but when you get older, you are going to be so happy! I don’t try to fool people, but on a few occasions recently people have had a look of shock on their face when I’ve told them I’m 10 years old than they thought. Oh, yes, it makes you feel good!

      Listen, it is not a good idea to get comfortable with people thinking you look young. Just because some people are gullible, doesn’t mean they all are. Eventually, you still might look younger, but you will no longer look young. Menopause can be a shock to the body. I was like you and even now, I look 5-10 years younger to other people, but I looking 45 at 55 is not quite the same thing! I never lie about my age…rather be told I look young for my age than them thinking the opposite.

      I’m not talking about lying to people I would have any real relationship with. When I worked retail, it was a simpler way to end a silly conversation to just go along with what they thought instead of people trying to argue with me. It gets tedious to correct customers that for whatever reason would like to guess how old I was.

      Yes I have to love my college for not putting any dates on my ID. I will milk that thing as long as I can LOL. Right now it just looks like it was a picture from my freshman year and that I’m a senior now.

      This!! Has to be. Laverne Cox is on Orange is The New Black. She will be on a CBS show next year called Doubt. She’s been in the news the last few years, including the famous Time magazine cover. She has a twin brother named M. Lamar. Wondering if Lamar is a real last name so one can check (or not). DOB is listed as 5/29/84. I think Laverne Cox is gorgeous, but she’s certainly NOT 32! Maybe this came up b/c of her b-day a few days ago.

      I definitely think this is it. The word “frankly” seemed like a clue to me, and I just remembered that Laverne is starring as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror remake. Someone down below found some connections to OITNB as well (rose to fame for Ruby Rose and jump for prison jumpsuit).

    I don’t know who the actress is but I’m surprised people still pull this stunt in this day and age. A while back one of the tabloids found Ashton Kutcher’s voter’s registration in California and he had cut a lot off.

    Ironically, the name that comes up most is Catherine Zeta-Jones who actually is the exact age she claims. The rumor of her being older is an urban legend in the US but not in the UK. There, they know she was a child actor and her age is a matter of public record.

      People are so harsh toward CZJ. She has definitely aged and changed a lot since the stress of her husbands cancer, their separation and her second bipolar treatment but this blind can’t be about her. She is better known for films than TV and either way I don’t think she’s attached to new TV series. Plus she hasn’t been on tons of magazine covers recently. She’s a fave and I’d like to see her acting again though.

      A few years ago, I read an accusation on a gossip site that Gillian Anderson was much older than she claimed. As it turned out, I went to high school with her, so I responded, stating that the age listed on IMDB was 100% accurate — she was definitely NOT lying about it!

      I think Rebel got away with her lie because she’s from Australia and changed her name. It would be extremely tough for the vast majority of people today to get away for very long with lying about their age.

      I think that rumor probably stemmed from how young she was when she booked The X-Files… I’m pretty sure she was saying she was older than she actually was back then. Now, not so much. (And she’s more gorgeous now than 20 years ago! Just saw her do A Streetcar Named Desire in NYC… amazing!)

      Lea has been in the spotlight since she was a child. She debuted on Broadway at age 8 in 1995. If you look at any videos of her during that time, she’s clearly an 8 year old child.

      Lea is 29 today. If she were really 44, that would mean that when she debuted on Broadway in 1995, she was actually 23. That is absolutely ridiculous!
