[Blind Gossip] While you may think that naming a baby after a family member is a welcomed gesture of affection, that is not always the case.
In this family, names are usually discussed in advance and family members consulted before using their names to ensure that they are comfortable and appreciative of the gesture.
This couple just completely violated that tradition!
They did NOT consult with [the family] about that name nor make any effort to secure anyone’s approval.
While the couple is, of course, legally free to name their baby anything they want, their choice has roiled their relatives.
From a different source:
While the couple may claim that they want to “honor” family members, there is absolutely nothing honorable about their actions. I assure you that [his family] is neither “honored” nor “delighted” by their choice of name. To the contrary.
[The couple’s] attempts to co-opt private family nicknames for their own use is transparent, manipulative, distasteful and selfish. It also confirms their compulsive need to seek affiliation with [the husband’s family] while simultaneously irritating them.
[His family] is keenly aware of this continuous pattern of behavior but will not comment on the matter except to provide generic good wishes.
We were intrigued by the use of the word “affiliation” rather than “affinity.” The former suggests a desire for an official connection with something, while the latter is about naturally liking something.
That sounds about right. They don’t like his family… but they definitely want to profit off of that official connection!

Have you ever heard the term fait a compli?
If they named her actual name, Elizabeth, people will love it. Every aspect of the queen’s life has been to the public. Lilibet one of the only very private thing left for the queen
Unless they ask the queen and give her a lot of time in advance to think it over, it is not appropriate
Forget the world, what is worst is that if the queen opposed to the name, they don’t even give the queen a chance to be liked by her own great granddaughter

A few thoughts…it made me think back to when Meghan/Harry had there royal names taken…Meghan commented “no one (meaning the Queen) owns the word “royal”.
So here we are where she has taken a unique, very intimate nickname from the Queen for her own use. We know she holds grudges but uses Harry as the vehicle for payback.
I feel so bad for the Queen. Lastly..where is Meghans mother in all this and previous mean girl stuff? Why isn’t she taking her aside to help her see it’s not…

My guess Harry was easily convinced the name choice would be a charming tribute to his grandmother (I was named my grandmother’s nickname & love it). However, I see a finer raptor hand than just merchandising, & clearly (except to her spouse) this would outrage the BRF), I see it as a long-planned, well-played passive-aggressive long-term big FU to the Queen & her family as every year masses of singlewide trailer-sired little Lilibets come into the world. Meghan takes down the Queen.

This is a more aggressive follow-on to the whole word “Royal” debacle that Meghan penned on Insta after HMTQ squashed all Megzy’s plans to merch the heck out of that Sussex Royal line. The Queen didn’t own the word Royal according to Meghan and it turned out she kinda did, so this is the narc’s revenge to show Lilibet who’s boss. Even if she has to use her own kid to do it. All of this nonsense is disturbing but the real losers will be the poor kids. A Narc parent is a nightmare. Poor babies.

Hazza and Meghan Markle. Those two are truly sick and twisted and their children won’t thank them for it. That poor little girl being used as a pawn and she is only just been born, not to mention the weight of expectation those names place upon her. One would have to question if they’re even mentally fit to be parents, they’re beyond self absorbed. I hope Charles and William absolutely take away their titles when they can. They deserve nothing but disgust and revulsion for these sick games.

There are so many lovely names this child could be called. So, Lilibet truly stands out as a pathetic grasp onto the BRF, those relatives that Harry accused of being racists. Why did they not choose an African name to focus attention on all that M& H feel needs attention?
DreamyVelvet says
Why? Because they’re still trying to one up William and Catherine. Prince George’s private family nickname was Archie. Princess Charlotte’s name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Sound familiar? They’re trying to set up a royal court of their own, even though the Queen said absolutely not, Charles needs to take the titles away and revisit any funds they may be receiving. Cut them off. So toxic and passive aggressive.
leon07151 says
BRAVO!

I don’t for a minute believe they were “honoring” the queen. That is just the PR people spinning a web. From the start this was a middle finger salute to the RF since they would not allow H and M to do as they pleased and be part time royals, jet setting back and forth between continents. Much like you cannot own the word “royal” you cannot own the name “Lilibet”. They knew what it would do and did it anyway.

Meghan and Harry. Now I know for certain just how unhinged Meghan really is to name her after the queen that she trashed. These two shouldn’t be parents. They should be locked up in a psych ward. How awful that Meghan sees her children as nothing but cash cows. I’m glad the Cambridge’s slighted them by saying lili instead of the full name.
MantisGirl says
Megan really hasn’t thought this through. She is banking on the namesakes of two legends to use for money and status by familial association. But this baby isn’t a princess or senior Royal and will have minimal contact with the BRF because of her mother. Her name won’t hold longevity or create interest other than the initial eye rolls at her parents hypocrisy and disrespect to the BRF. Why would a company pay huge amounts of money to them for that?
amagod121 says
Maybe a UK reader could clarify the terms of a Royal child becoming eligible to be called a Prince or Princess? I just read in a British paper that upon the Queen’s passing, both of Balmy Harry’s children will be eligible for the title of Prince and Princess, as they will be the grandchildren of the direct line to the throne. Could Charles veto it? (I don’t think he would, however.) Anyone with knowledge on the matter is appreciated!
WillowPotter says
I too, have heard that when Prince Charles becomes King they are eligible to become Prince or Princess I have also read that when he gets on the throne he is going to slim down the monarchy even more. Prince William already has three children and Prince George is next in line after his father then his children so on and so forth so there would be no need for Prince Harry’s offsprings to hold those titles. The drama H&M are doing will definitely help with them being pushed out.
gingerbread says
According to a Letters Patent issued by the Queen’s grandfather and updated by her, the only people eligible for prince or princess are the children of the monarch, the male line grandchildren of the monarch, and the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. Archie and Lilli will automatically be upgraded to prince and Princess when Charles becomes King. Until that time, Archie can be known as the Earl of Dumbarton, which is Harry’s subsidiary title
Sunshine45 says
Charles is streamlining the monarchy like the other European Royal Households. It’s been talked about for about 20 years. Only the children of the monarch & heirs will get Princely Title. So Harry’s children will not. Neither will the children of Charlotte & Louis because none of them are the future heirs.
Edward’s children are grandkids to the queen & so are entitled to be HRH Prince/Princess but that hasn’t be taken up because of the future plans for streamlined monarchy. Hope that helps!
aaaLizAH says
H&M of course.
It will be interesting to see if and how the children strike out from under their mother’s ferocious command. New parents, especially narcissists, generally do not realize that the children are not extensions of themselves but will grow to have wits, will, and passions of their own.

What H & M fail to understand, that someday very soon, sooner than they can comprehend, their children will be adults. They will have the ability to understand what they’ve been deprived of, how they were a pawn in a very sick game, and everything, as their birthright, they have lost. And H & M will have to deal with that. Very sad days ahead.
MantisGirl says
So true. Having been raised by a narcissist, you realise that nothing about you as an individual will ever come close to how they can make use of you. Imagine being the pawn whose childhood was played out in front of the world for all to see. Imagine your name being chosen by your mother so she can make money from it. The trail of “genetic pain” they are laying down for their own kids is horrifying and tragic.

That is something I’ve never thought about before; when they’re old enough to use the internet, it will be impossible to hide the other side of the story that they’ve been sheltered from. MsSumida says
The saddest thing-

Poor little one. She will be butt of manu cruel kid nicknames. “lilibutt”, “billiebutt” , etc. Some parents test out the rhyming of names while deciding so their child doesn’t get teased throughout their young school years. Poor RBF. They will have nightmare marriage with them forever.
SlinkyMalinki says
It’s a nickname ONLY used by the Queens parents, sister and husband. So deeply personal and so very wrong to use it, especially as it only came about through the Queen not being able to pronounce ‘Elizabeth’ when she was small. It is stealing something SO precious.
The harkles went ahead with their cruel interview knowingly speeding up Prince Philips demise. It now seems they’re targeting the Queen, so Charles can be King and they can call Archie a Prince. Stone. cold. psycho!
rayodeplata says
I hadn’t thought of that until now. Could they really be that evil just so their children have titles as soon as possible? Nothing can be put past them.

Well, I can’t say that I am surprised. As, usual it’s all about merching. Their kids are going to need all the money they can get for all the therapy they are going to need.

Soooo extraordinarily CREEPY to use HMTQ’s deeply personal nickname as a given name. Lili, or Elizabeth would have been appropriate. This is just really stalker-ishly WEIRD. Even more so is how Doria, the actual living grandmother, was completely ignored… WTF?

Great point about Doria…it makes their choice even more obvious as to their motives….however in their defense you don’t name your daughter after your nanny, babysitter and chief factotum, which is how they use Doria

“Oprah Gayle” would have been more appropriate for the baby girl. Sad there’s no honor given to the African American branch of the children’s heritage. But no surprise as these two are the world’s biggest hypocrites.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. I admit, when I read the name, I rolled my eyes. It’s such an obvious move, and the name sounds silly (although it’s easy to copyright, I’m guessing).
Using Prince Philip’s nickname for Queen Elizabeth after Harry and Meghan have been so truly awful to them both and made the ends of their lives worse…it’s icky.
LocoCoco85 says
It was not Philip’s nickname for Elizabeth – it was Elizabeth called herself as a young girl because she couldn’t pronouce her own name yet (adorable). The name Lilibet then morphed into a family nickname that only the closets people to her called Elizabeth.
SueSue says
Thank you, LocoCoco! I didn’t know that.

Meg and Harry
They chose it only for the connection to the royal family, nothing more. The connection is the only reason they are famous. This way if their titles are stripped, they still have a connection. Especially because they used the Queen’s very personal nickname, rather than use Elizabeth- a name millions of women have.
It’s in very bad taste in my opinion, but I didn’t expect anything else from them.
ChattyCat says
The royal family is bound in formality. Ffs the queens family have to bow in her presence. Hence, the impersonal ‘affiliation’ is befitting. I doubt H & MM used the naming of their child as an opportunity to stick one to their family. And do people actually get consent from the person after whom they’re naming their child? I’m pretty sure permission isn’t obligatory. Lighten up ye royal folk!
Having said that….WHY name your kid someones *nickname*??? Seeiously, why not just name her…
stupidtrista says
Are you familiar with these two idiots at all? I’d bet my last dollar it was fully intended to send some sort of message.
The royals aren’t just “some family “, they are steeped in tradition. Beyond that, to use a highly personal nickname of someone you just trashed on a global scale, is weird, disrespectful and shady as hell. These two just don’t stop with their antics. It’s sad at this point.
lila8245 says
They spent the last few months trashing his entire family, accusing them of horrible things. Then, they claimed that his grandmother was a bad parent and so that’s why Charles was a bad parent. You don’t find these actions hypocritical or distasteful?
I’m pregnant right now, and I don’t plan on naming my son after anyone that ever mistreated me. Then again, I don’t depend on my child or my family’s legacy to get $ the way these two do.
lizzysopinion says
Patronising, condescending, self-righteous idiots. How dare they even presume to take the nick name from the Queen…they’re looking for one hell of a fight! Atleast, the RF announcements refer to the kid as Lili, suggesting they will not even mention the name. Oh, is the kid black???

H & M are so disrespectful.
sfgirl42 says
I think the use of the Queen’s private nickname, if done without the Queen’s express approval, is completely inappropriate, and so darn obvious that they still wish to reap the benefits of Harry’s royalty. It is just gross – H&M say that these people treated them terribly, but then use the most intimate, family-insider name of the Monarch for their newborn? Really tone deaf on Harry’s part, and so transparent on Meghan’s. So power/status hungry she is, that Meghan.

Choosing it shows their disordered mental state. It is not a given name, but a nickname used for the Queen when she was a child, & later by her husband. None of her children & grandchildren appear to use it, either to the Queen or for their children. H&M did not ask permission, so Lily alone would have been borderline, but less inappropriate. BDBoop says
I think it’s ridiculous that after they were cast into the outer darkness, H&M are still expected to honor royal protocol. I love the name. Last I heard, the royals were going to snub H&M. So do it! Stop playing these stupid * little reindeer games, and turn the promised blind eye.

How is it a ‘snub’ to ignore someone who is insulting and hurting you? Would your family continue to welcome someone with open arms when all they do is throw bile your way and complain, and spread lies about you? At some point you have to say ‘enough is enough’. Stephy0203 says
Easy, Rachel and Henry. Why did they do it? Obviou$ly for the $ame rea$on they’ve done everything el$e lately, and attention. Attention was also the reason they put out the story about the baby being due on Philip’s 100th birthday when she had already been born!

Harry Windsor & his tacky wife. They TOLD HM the Queen, what name they had chosen… they did not consult or ask permission as all other members of the RF must do. One does not usurp the pet name of the Sovereign and these two grifters know it. They have done it for publicity, merchandising and to stick it to HM the Queen yet again.
TonySheridan says
If they indeed did not ask the Queen before they named the baby, they’ve sunk to a new low. If they simply told her, without asking if it was all right, still really low.
I have no respect for the actions of these two, but a baby doesn’t deserve to be pulled into the mess Harry and Megs have made. Lili is a cute name, and I wish for her and her big brother a happy life and competent, loving nannies.

The two leeches and their new daughter Lilibeth Diana. I am disgusted with their pathetic attempts to cash in on the Royal family. I highly doubt that the Queen is happy to have her nickname (not even her actual name) used for a grandchild that she will never see.
The only reason they chose those names is the cash value attached to them.
RadBrad11 says

I think it’s absolutely despicable naming their daughter what they chose after all the turmoil they have caused their relatives. It was the wife’s desperate attempt to keep their titles and get back in good graces with HMTQ.
Jem1Jem1 says
The couple is Harry and Meghan.
The name sounds awkward. Should have just gone with Lili Diana. Or the reverse. Or Elizabeth, it’s a common name. I have been hearing for a couple of months they were likely to honor the Queen, Philip and/or Diana. Shouldn’t be such a total surprise.
Going with Lilabet strikes me as pandering. If they didn’t discuss it with Queenie, they should have.
Whisper says
No surprise TRF didn’t beam with delight as Harry has weaponized Diana against them. Hes hiding behind mommy’s skirt to milk his “tragic” story as long as he can with the corporate media (which only serve as destraction from important stories). All while he lives in a mansion.
Whisper says
Revised. I didn’t know Lilibet was the Queens nickname. How to unpack? As I said first they roundly accuse TRF of racism and of being monsters that prevented MM, like Diana, from getting psych help when she needed it. That’s where Diana was weaponized against TRF. Then they give the baby the queen’s very personal nickname. Trivializing the name as Lilibet is head of the depraved firm. They’re either perilously tone death or wrecklessly manipulative. Possibly to keep & pass on titles.
Madam Schadenfreude says
The Harkles’ shame knows no bounds. Absolutely disgusting given there was just an article a couple weeks ago that said HMTQ did not want anyone to call her Lilibet anymore. It was a family pet name & those who were dear to her that used it were all gone. Spineless Harry is just twisting the knife in his grandmother’s heart. Why on earth would they name their child after the matriarch of such a racist awful family (in their minds). I guess they couldn’t merch a child named after jailbird…

Okay, well, the apple certainly didn’t fall far from the Markle tree.

My thoughts as soon as I heard the name. Of course they would do this! And no way would the Queen approve. Why not put Doris in there somewhere? Oh that’s right can’t get anything from her mother except babysitting. Lilli might have been ok on it’s own, after all Archie is a nickname with no full name it would have matched better, but no they couldn’t resist.

If I did not know who they are, I would say it’s a lovely name. But wasn’t Lilibet the name Prince Phillip used for the Queen? If so, I find that most presumptive, intrusive, an invasion of privacy and a slap in the face. I think by using Diana they are expecting to garner praise by “honoring” Diana. But here is the thing. They will never share either child with the Royal Family, much less the world. So naming her for someone who will not be allowed to be in her life is hypocritical.

Why do you think they chose it? To ingratiate themselves and have the world say, ‘Oh how smart they are!’. When in reality, the names have no ‘flow’ to them and sound exactly just like they are–stupid.
I feel really sorry for the Queen and the rest of the RF…they sure are saddled with these two.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
As much as I can’t stand them I think they name is very cute. However, as soon as I saw the announcement I just had to roll my eyes because they sure love trashing the family by saying they’re mistreated and left to fend for themselves but then go and name the baby after the head member of said family. So pathetic. I just feel for the children as they shouldn’t be dragged into their mess.

Couple: The pathetic Harry Windsor & odious Meghan Markle.
What do you think of the name? It’s cringe. And if this doesn’t finally get them pinged for lese majeste, I don’t know what will. What a nerve!
Why do you think they chose it? Meghan choose it for its merching value, and to maintain the charade that she respects the Queen. Harry just thinks what Meghan tells him to; but that won’t stop her ultimately blaming him for everything when the time comes.

Harry and Meghan, naming the new baby after Diana. I like that they are annoying the other royals and doing their own thing.
aaasox11 says
Harry and Rachel, of course. Lili is a nice name (except, spelling) but Lilibet Diana is a blatant way of remaining linked to a family they constantly trash. A way of continuing to ride royalty coat tails. And what about Doria, who they are supposedly close to? Is she not worthy of honouring too? No money in that though.
mbscott24 says
Markle and Harry naming daughter Lili Diana.
They have completely and selfishly gone rogue and do exactly as they please – flaunting it in the faces of the Royal Family!! Shame, shame.
susiebaba says
Harry and Meghan.
Unless the Queen approved the name “Lilibet”, it’s a huge liberty and quite disrespectful to choose such an intimate and private pet name, apparently only used by HMTQ’s closest (mostly now deceased) family members. It smacks of an attempt to preserve the royal connection rather than a loving tribute, particularly after all their recent attacks on the BRF.
Aurora says
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Lilibet is a babyish nickname. If I were QEII I would be PISSED.

Harry & Meghan of course!!!
Mia444 says
The Harkles stealing the name Lillibet. They chose the name for many reasons (connection to the royal family, merching, etc) but mainly as a big F.U. to the Queen. “We can name our kid anything we want, neener neener.” Immature, insufferable, manipulative trash.
nukemgrl says
I think Queen Elizabeth has got to be mortified at this term of “affection” from Harry and Meghan. The royal family works very hard at keeping a dignified appearance and nicknames are not to be used in public.
omgimbackagain says
Lilibet Diana, newborn of Meghan and Harry. Lilibet was the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth and was also Prince Philip’s pet name for her. Kind of weird to name their baby that, Elizabeth Diana would’ve been better but this feels too personal and intrusive.

What do I think of the name? I think it’s the height of hypocrisy since they say his family is racist, etc., etc. We all knew Diana was going to be in there somewhere, but to use the Queen’s childhood name after blasting her and her family is just too much. I think they chose Lilibet to get back in to the Queen’s good graces.

Harry and the Markle thing. The choice of the queen’s nickname was probably Meagan’s idea and meant to keep the PR rolling forever. Harry is stupid enough to go along with her.

Prince Harry and is wife. I don’t care nor follow royal stories but when I read the announcement for this one in the news I did “gasp” at the audacity! I really can’t stand them and I wish everyone here in the US would stop paying attention to them.
reneelynn says
That was a private nickname that her husband called her! I think it’s horrible that they did this!
montrealaise says
The Harkles, of course, naming their baby girl Lilibet. Lilibet is the Queen’s private family nickname, given to her by her father when she was a toddler. The only family members who were allowed to call her that were her parents, her sister and, after she married Prince Philip, her husband. Hijacking the name, especially after they trashed the royal family, is disrespectful in the extreme.

Feel sorry for the Queen that they have exploited her personal childhood nickname and the one used by her dear departed husband, for their own gain.
Doing everything they can to remain relevant by using their link to the British Royal Family, and to carry on exploiting the BRF despite the fact they have stepped away from royal duties. It’s all about the money and staying relevant.

I don’t care about the name, but they did it without permission in a family that has a tradition of asking first, so it’s a dig at them.
beachchick218 says
I immediately thought it was tacky. The Queen’s deceased husband called her Lilibet. I think that was her nickname when she was little, also.
She is a head of state and a reigning Monarch. A very tacky and me-me-me way of using his family for their gain. I knew the RF had to be pissed.
These two lowlife slimeballs should be deleted from the royal family. Or better yet, since they are of the “woke” crowd – they should be CANCELED. Grifters who will some day be outcasts. Can’t…
Della Street says
I think it’s a lovely name.
No need to read anything into it. They’ve clearly cut ties to tradition and are going their own way.

LOL right.

I think it’s a disgrace to hijack the Queen’s nickname, specially so soon after she lost Prince Philip, who was probably one of the last people to call her that. Plus, wasn’t the family a bunch of racists that neglected their suicidal thoughts and caused “genetic” pain? Why honour the matriarch of such family? They’re embarrassing.
Also, rumor is that the “neglecting” of her mental health was actually the palace refusing to pay for a stint at her friend’s super expensive wellness spa

This is Prince Harry and his grifter spouse. Think there is a lot of eye rolling on both sides of the Atlantic with the news of this name. The announcement gives a sense of inconsiderate appropriation of family identity as a means to bring attention to Harry and the vulgar person he foolishly married. This is an example of behavior that makes them seem untrustworthy for business opportunities. Hope their innocent children do not spend their childhoods as pawns for publicity and material gain.

It was MM’s way to stay in the news and make the RF look like the bad ones. Funny how all the names refer to his family and nothing with hers? Oh that’s right because there’s no actual relationships on that side.

Forgot to add, I also think it’s so hurtful that Her Majesty’s last known person to call her that was her beloved. Now she has to hear that name in a time we all know is still painful for her. It should’ve been kept sacred while she is alive

I remember saying that the baby’s name would be Diana. The middle name close enough. They chose the name in hopes of not losing their titles.

Megan and Harry, of course. Everything they do is irritating. It’s better than Archie. I like the name Lili. But naming after QE2’s nickname? Feels a little like naming your daughter Oprah or Beyonce.

Clearly Harry and Markle.
The utter gall of making overt efforts to trash the royal family, then naming their new baby after the Queen is extraordinary. I’ll bet they didn’t even have the decency to ask her if she was ok with them trading in on her family nickname.
They just gross me out now. They are clearly in it for milking the connection as much as they can. Harry is an idiot – it’s mostly his fault she “wasn’t prepared”. What a scam
aaaEmme says
I actually had a visceral reaction to this and I have absolutely zero affiliation with anyone involved so I can only imagine how the actual family feels. I think it’s absolutely tasteless and unbelievably manipulative to use the Queen’s very private nickname for a grandchild she may never even meet and certainly won’t get to know in any meaningful way thanks to hapless Harry and selfish Meghan. I thought they were low before but this is a whole other level.

LOL why did I know they‘d name it Lilibeth before they even announced it? Super distasteful – it was the name that was used by the Queen’s husband for her. After his death, hearing it must sting every time. What a shame they‘ve gone this road.

Thought the same thing about the timing of the “due on Prince Phillip’s birthday” press coverage. Definitely the work of the Markle PR machine! Stinks of thirsty MM!

Furthermore, leaving aside the affront to Harry’s family, how is this not a slap in the face to Doria? You know, the one grandparent this baby might ever have a chance to get to know? I guess she doesn’t matter to H&M beyond providing free babysitting and establishing Meghan’s racial identity.
I really wish non-Murdoch media outlets would call them out on their continuing the legacy of “genetic pain” by honoring the matriarch of such an apparently racist and neglectful family. *eyeroll*

Harry and Meghan…100 PERCENT. They need the connection. I feel that the Royal Family is going to take their titles and they need something to keep them attached to the Family. Why else would they name their baby Lillibet. A name that The Queen gave herself because Elizabeth was too hard to pronounce. The people that called her that are now gone. It is pretty desperate.

While the name Lilibet is precious, I suspected the names were given without approval. How disrespectful to the Queen! That is a rather private nickname…it’s not illegal to cop it, but so low-rent. * always seemed shady, but * is a real disappointment.

harry and meghan took the queens nickname in order to degrade it since the queen took their hrh titles and patronage and wouldn’t let them use ‘sussex royal’. and why no shout out to doria but instead the baby is given 4 names in honor of the “racist” royal family?! why so blatantly deny both of the children’s blended heritage? at some point there’s got to be a reckoning in the media over meghans disrespectful treatment of her black family

Very distasteful choice. In addition to appropriating the Queen’s childhood nickname while simultaneously trashing her and everything she represents on public, it’s too similar to Kate’s daughter (Charlotte Elizabeth Diana). It was obvious that they would use Diana, but why pick a variation of Elizabeth too? I guess we should be thankful that they didn’t go with a “unique” name like Nevaeh or something.
