January 19, 2016 Blind Gossip

3 white guys[Blind Gossip] We received some very interesting commentary from a well-known actor in Hollywood about a recent race controversy.

My jaw just about dropped to the floor when I heard [Actress]’s comments. [Her Actor Husband]’s performance wasn’t that good, and then I thought that maybe she was doing the jealousy thing, because lord knows she’s never won any major award for anything, and the only awards she does get are for being black.

Then I got mad about the hypocrisy. This is what I really want you to tell your readers about.

You know how she and [her husband] have a production company? Well, they have his and hers projects, and here’s a dirty little secret: “Her” projects are always for/by/about/starring/directed by black women. But for “his” projects (which are MUCH bigger), his directors are:

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

WHITE GUY

Minority Guy (not black)

Seriously. Not one black director. Not one female director. That’s their dirty little secret. She wants to go off about how racist the industry is and about how they don’t value black people, but she doesn’t want you to know that when it comes to who they trust with their big movies, it’s not other black people!

There you go. Rather than guess who our source is, we’ll let you guess who she is talking about.

I think this whole thing is racial bias on the part of Blacks: They try to demean anything that is White and all they do is clamored for inclusion, just like they did for quotas in higher education. I’m old enough to remember that Hattie McDaniel (Gone with the Wind) won an Oscar in 1939, back when race relations (and prejudice) was a major social issue! Think Harry Belafonte(?) back in the 60tees.Also, the Academy has picked pics that were eclipsed by much better films, in the past, but,

I read somewhere years ago that Jada Pinkett said she doesn’t trust white people. Said it publicly. Reverse that and see what kind of media fallout there would be if a white actress said she didn’t trust black people. But it’s OK for Jada Pinkett to be racist? Double standard much?

Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith. Aunt Viv told it exactly like this, haha. There IS a race problem in Hollywood but the Oscars can’t fix it. The nominees this year are deserving. To create diversity and equality, you have to target the lack of opportunity that POC have in Hollywood to make something award-worthy. Target production companies, film and drama schools, casting couches, etc. because that’s where the problems start.

  5. savantrix says

    January 20, 2016 at 9:21 am

Well, I’m black and I rolled my eyes when I saw her statement. Will didnt deserve the award…period.

That said, I think there were some oversights…namely that Beasts of No Nation received no acting nominations. Not sure if it was a race thing or the Academy not wanting to legitimize Netflix in that way?

But then the Oscars is not always about acting…it’s more a popularity contest, no?

To the content of the blind, I’m not remotely surprised by the info about Will’s production…

  6. CoCoJoe says

    January 20, 2016 at 5:02 am

The Smiths…should be on merit, but probably some racism involved in the process, but a more likely reason for this supposed snub was…what old white (or black probably) guy cares about rap? Besides, Selma was nominated last year. I am not sure you can question winners, because only one film can win and there’s personal taste and a whole bunch of other random variables at play.

  7. HermioneWeasley says

The Smiths. She’s a dose. So is he for that matter.

Is it not worse to nominate someone just because of the colour of their skin? I can’t think of any black actor or actress in 2015 that deserves a nomination; Smith just isn’t that good an actor, let’s be truthful about this. Michael B Jordon was good in Creed but it wasn’t Oscar Worthy. There was no moment of Awe were you thought “what a great actor”. You should give someone something based on the colour of their skin. That’s not…

    Will & Jada

She has a point, and enough money to say what she wants, and the ego to boot. I think she wouldn’t dare say that without the above and the delusional belief that what she is saying will lead to a boycott.

Unfortunately – *you CAN be a hypocrite & right at the same time. An alcoholic can tell his kids drinking to much is bad/don’t drink and drive. But this is damn near career suicide – so this is not just about Will.

As for Will – his small production company does NOT…

  10. research boy says

    January 19, 2016 at 8:08 pm

Of course there’s a lot of racism. Of course Matt Damon getting a nomination was ridiculous.

That said, Jada should be self-aware enough to know that her raising the issue would be seen as special pleading on behalf of Will. (I mean, if we’re talking lame acting nominations, Will should be throwing back the one he got for “The Pursuit of Crappyness”.) Know when to speak out, and when to let others do the talking for you.

It’s a need for attention. If he was the only black actor nominated, would she still complain? If it’s an issue, then it should always be discussed, not just when your husband doesn’t get nominated.

  15. BleuDog says

    January 19, 2016 at 7:10 pm

This is definitely Will and Jada Smith. Let me say this, the academy has given Oscars to people of African American descent when their performances warranted such. Back many years ago, Butterfly McQueen and Hattie McDaniel. Fast forward to those African Americans who have been nominated and not won. Some have, Denzel and Halle, etc. As for Will Smith, Jada darling the only dramatic role that he has done a decent acting job in was Ali, I think he was nominated but lost.

What was your reaction to our Actress’ complaints about racism?

Jada’s comments weren’t unreasonable by any means; but her reasoning for responding was depressingly transparent. Dear, Will’s performance in his current film wasn’t at an academy-award winning level, it’s that simple. If Will had been nominated but all other Blacks were ignored, would you have complained? No. You care about your own egos and that’s it. Any every POC…

Jada and Will Smith. Is this even suppose to be blind?

She has a right to her opinion and choice. Janet Huber’s video was sad though. Even is all her view was agreed with, she came across as a rude, bitter brat still angry over Fresh Prince. She could have gotten respect and have been taken seriously with many agreeing with her if she just presented herself better, in a respectable, mature manner. She came across in an embarrassingly pathetic way.

Obviously Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. First many people praised Will’s performance in Concussion. But it’s a much bigger than Jada shilling for her husband. There were other performances by people of color-not just black people-that were overlooked. And I know that the whole thing is a massive beauty/popularity contest. But one that has huge significance in terms of clout, flexibility and money. Whoever this other actor was needs to get back in their lane.

I don’t disagree with Jada or Spike Lee, but I couldn’t help but get a smudge of sour grapes from her. Perhaps I’m reading into things.

I wonder if Will is going to show to the Oscars or at the very least the after parties. There’s no indication that he is following the party line.

This one is easy. Jada Pinkett Smith going off about Will Smith not getting nominated for an Oscar for his role in “Concussion”.

I think HW should pay more attention to minority actors, but I think the selection should be based on performance — not race. I haven’t seen “Concussion” yet, so I don’t know if Will’s performance was better than the actors who were nominated.

As for racism and the Oscars – there are plenty of people who actually deserve an Oscar that have never been nominated, just because she believes her husband should have been nominated and wasn’t – doesn’t make it racism (especially when he isn’t that great in the first place).

The racism/sexism/heterosexism/etc. that’s out there today isn’t as overt as it once was, but is much more structural or residual (overt=people wouldn’t say “X people can’t act” or that they won’t see a movie with people of different backgrounds, and most people would agree that’s inappropriate). For that matter, there just weren’t a lot of good African American directed and acted movies in 2015 to warrant an Oscar nod. For goodness’ sakes, the Oscars are supposed to be about who is the most talented in the year, not the color of one’s skin. The only one I can think of that maybe could have been nominated was “Creed”…

And my reaction was that she likes publicity! Race seems to be the hot topic this year and she wanted to jump in on the drama. The original Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince released a video tearing Jada down.

Jada and Will are such phonies. Just like they will silence their kids sexuality until they can spin it to give them the most publicity.

[Optional] What was your reaction to our Actress’ complaints about racism? I think the Academy should not be compelled to nominate a black guy just for the sake of diversity. That is a f*cked up concept of equality.

This. Affirmative action is a joke, especially in Hollywood. Hard word deserves to be rewarded, regardless of race.

It’s really about a self-perpetuating system whereby those in power (in the case of the Academy, old white men w/ tastes from the 1950’s) select what is good, and then that selection gets honored and accrues power, clout, and opportunities, and then goes on to win more awards and give opportunities to others similar to them.

YOU REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW THE VOTING HAPPENS FOR THE OSCARS. TRY READING ABOUT THE PROCESS. IT SHOULD CHANGE YOUR MIND. IT’S NOT SOME OLD WHITE GUYS SITTING IN AN OFFICE PICKING THE FAVORITES TO WIN. THE ACADEMY HAS OVER 6,000 VOTERS WHO CHOOSE NOMINEES. THE ONES WITH THE MOST VOTES BECOME ELIGIBLE FOR THE OSCARS. THERE’S MORE TO IT BUT IF YOU WANT TO GET ANGRY ABOUT THE VOTING RESULTS THEN YOU SHOULD BE ANGRY AT THE 6,000+ VOTERS WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OUTCOME.

But the whole academy who does all of the voting is not equal so to speak- it is not at all diverse. So how is a poll of the opinions of a big group of white men not biased? The academy is like 94% white and 77% male (fact). And I bet the majority of those white men are over the age 55. So it would be hard or unnatural for them to branch out and honor or even watch something like Straight Outta Compton or Tangerine. They honor and vote for their peers. No surprises there.

I beg to differ. Many black artists have won an Academy Award before. Is it really fair to be cool the year more black people are nominated but talk about a biased voting when white people are nominated? If they are indeed partial in their voting, then it should be consistent every year. If it’s not, then it clearly is not a racial problem.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. I find it hilarious that (nearly?) all of Will Smith’s directors are white. Yeah I don’t really pay attention to either one of them anymore.

      JADA and WILL SMITH .

So sick of these two. His performance was “eh” – his accent terrible – he didn’t deserve a nomination , so his wife is now trying to pull the racism card. I just smell a sore loser….

It is just so pathetic to see how Black Americans are moving backwards. 50 years ago, MLK based the Civil Rights movement on the belief that Blacks wanted to be recognized more for the content of their character than for the color of their skin. Now, today’s Black “leaders” care more about skin color than character. Michael Caine is a rare actor with the courage to speak the truth. Just because an actor is Black, doesn’t mean that you should vote for them.
