God bless our servicemen and women! And thank you BG staff for keeping me on my toes and making me laugh daily with this blog!

This is a tribute to Mike.
Mike returned from his second and third tours of duty as a Navy medic attached to a Marine unit. He returned to his wife and his kids.
But Agent Orange had already begun insidiously destroying his body, one organ, one limb at a time. Technically he came home–but he didn’t have anything approaching a “normal life” for more than a few years. Slowly, the chemical destroyed his body from the inside out.
At the end, he’d lost both legs and required total…

care.
The thousands of dollars the Veterans’ Administration sent out every month barely covered the cost of that care.
Not all the heroes who give their lives actually died on the battlefield. Some came home and just continued the process of dying.
Thank you for your service, Mike. My first boyfriend, my enduring friend.

I remember all the time. I remember because of different reasons throughout the year.

There’s NOT one day I of the week that I don’t think of their commitment.

Memorial day is a somber day. It is a funeral day, to remember those Americans that died in battle for this country.
They died in the struggle for freedom.
They died at the hands of the enemy.
They died while fighting.
They died knowing the risks they were taking.
They died along side their brothers and sisters in Arms.
Everything was taken from them, they were taken from their families and their loved ones.
They didn’t come home.

Enjoy your beautiful day, Ace, and God Bless America.
