[Blind Gossip] An actress who was recently told that she was too old for the part went off on a Twitter rant about ageism in Hollywood!
Jamie Denbo co-starred in the FX series Terriers. You may have seen her in films like Spy, The Heat and Ghostbusters. She will also appear on Orange Is The New Black next season.
Jamie Denbo, 43, was recently told that she was too old to convincingly play the wife of a 57-year-old man and the mother of an 18-year-od daughter!
Janie’s mad. Here are her tweets about the casting decision:
Here’s a clip of Jamie Denbo in The Heat, which stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy:

[Optional] Is she too old for the role?

The cast of Feud has several fine older actresses-one being Susan Sarandon. So the show doesn’t seem to revolve exclusively on younger women. She may have used that hashtag because Feud doesn’t discriminate as much as how she auditioned for? Unless there’s a new male lead coming on Feud, this isn’t about Feud.
Insiderher says
This is baffling. With hashtag #FeudFX I assumed she tried out for that show. But, males stars are Alfred Molina (63) & Stanley Tucci, 57. So Tucci fits the age-but his wife is 30 years younger than him-not 50 even remotely. So neither star of Feud works. Someone wrote Hugh Laurie on Feud, but I don’t see any info on his joining the cast.
Whalesnark says
When casting Charade the producers were concerned that the age difference between Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant would reflect poorly on *him*. Plus one point for being alive to the issue, minus one for focussing only on the impact on his career. Shameful that these people are retrograde compared to their counterparts of fifty years ago.
traherne says
Agreed. Gary Cooper seducing Hepburn creeps the f* out of me to this day, and I love both actors.

I don’t agree with her twitter rants since they sound juvenile, but she has a point about sexist ageism in Hollywood. I’m 45 and the mother of twin 18 year olds. Maybe in Hollywood they prefer their moms much younger in movies where they had kids practically right out of high school instead of, I don’t know, getting a college education and established in their career first. But of course at 19 they married a rich older man with a beautiful house straight out of a magazine.

Shoot, I had my first child at 43.

damn autocorrect

she tagged “feud fx” which makes assume the show Feud on FX? (lol big jump there) – their next season is about charles & Diana.. in which case, she may be a bit old to play diana who WAS married at 20 and died at 36. the ages don’t quite match up for charles (he’s only in his 60s now, so if they could stretch the actor’s age by that much, they can stretch the actress’s too) or william (15 at her death) but otherwise it seems to fit. she has vaguely the right look to be going for diana’s…
goggles says
Why did she include #FeudFX?
So, I’m going to guess that’s the show we’re talking about, season two of Feud on FX. Maybe she was up for Camilla? I know it’s suppose to be about Charles and Diana. I think Camilla’s kids were on the older side (at least older than the Windsor princes)
CanaryCry says
No, she’s not too old. Then again, I don’t work in the entertainment industry.
Don’t have a clue on the other details … I think I may have heard that the project was going to be a sitcom, but that’s it.
Kingofboggle says
Let’s try Kevin Spacey
Of course she’s not too old. At least his isn’t 70 something woody Allen shuffling around making another movie where two smoking hot 30 year olds fight over him
Squeezes99 says
Isn’t Woody 80 something now? Fact is, with his money, two smoking hot 30 year olds WOULD fight over him if given the chance. It’s all about pheromones, not logic. Men are programmed to go for the youngest of the species and women are programmed to go for the most successful provider.
DancerUnderOrion says
Not entirely true, even gold-diggers can get someone younger if they’re relatively attractive. As for men going for the youngest of the species and women for the provider, that is some bs older men have been spinning since forever to justify their creepiness and vanity. Women have gone for the provider because they haven’t had other options, for the longest of time marrying up was the only means for social climbing for women. Studies have shown that the wealthier women get, the less they care…
Conchord says
It’s not him. She mentioned the mystery actor’s real-life wife. Spacey is not married, and I think we know why.
Brunettetalk says
This!!! I remember watching ” Manhattan” and thinking how slimy that Allen was using the film as the way to slide his crepey skin next to an actress just out of high school. Gross.
yo1774 says
Kevin Spacey prefers young guys in real life, but i doubt he has a problem with someone his age playing his wife
aaabics says
Stanley Tucci?
Conchord says
He’s not 57 until November. Also, I really don’t think his wife (Felicity Blunt) is 50 yet. She’s Emily’s older sister, so she’d have to be at least 16 years older.

I think they were letting her down easy
Germanicus says
I think you’re absolutely right. It’s better to tell someone it’s a demographic issue, rather than they’re not good enough.
ivy3499 says
Clooney is 56- would probbbe 57 by filming.
Squeezes99 says
Clooney and I were born the same year. I can’t imagine popping out a couple of kids in this stage of my life. And I’d be treated like pariah by society to say the least. Sigh, I hope I come back as a man the next life. They have it so much easier.
Conchord says
Clooney’s wife is nowhere near 50, so it’s not him.
SpartanApple says
Jamie is lovely in every way! And HILARIOUS.

Fortune Cookie says
She might be a 43-year old actress, but she Tweets just like a little girl.
bxckground says
No, she’s not old. But Hollywood is obsessed with making everyone believe that a 20 year old college student will somehow fall in love with a 55 year old man with 3 divorces and 7 kids.
I wish more relevant people would talk about ageism in Hollywood because it’s kind of creepy how they are STILL trying to normalize this stuff.
deering says
Seriously. What kills me is that older male actors apparently think no one will notice this–or how it makes them look ridiculous, not sexy.
Smokey says
Totally agree with her! She is NOT too old, it’s gotten ridiculous the age difference, that most of the time it’s not even believable…but it’s a movie after all.. The norm now seems to be someone Harrison Ford’s age paired with someone half his age.
prinny says
No idea who this person is but she is right to be outraged. I have been noticing for years how these older actors are increasingly paired with younger and younger women, when they are supposed to have teenage kids!!
It has always bothered me and I think its time that women start boycotting movies and TV shows with casting that skews this way. It’s no wonder women plastic surgery themselves out of recognition these days.
SouthJerseyGirl says
No clue but I love what she tweeted so much that I will look for movies or TV shows she’s in just to support her.
CyndiTx123 says
no she isn’t old its the old actor that is 57 year old actor and his producer cronies that probably didn’t like the way she looked and wanted someone that was more to his ridiculous view on what a wife should look like….
ageism…..it’s real!!!
she seems perfect for a role like that…
maybe Tom Cruise or Liam Neesom… maybe it was Taken or something like that…. But don’t really think Liam would say not to any actor that would play his wife….
