[Blind Gossip] You probably know that New York City is a very liberal place. That’s why we were a bit surprised to hear something about the owner of a major New York sports team.
[Owner] was actually a big supporter of Donald Trump. He financially gave a lot of money to Trump’s campaign. He didn’t think Trump would win, but now he’s very surprised and happy for the election results. I bet his fans would not be happy if they found this out.
As he fears repercussions for his business, the owner plans to keep his support for Trump quiet.

It’s James Dolan, owner of the New York Knicks!
From The New York Daily News:
Knicks owner James Dolan is an NBA outsider for giving $300G to Donald Trump’s campaign
At a time when the NBA has gone hard to its left by openly admonishing Donald Trump – from coaches publicly maligning the nascent President of the United States, to players saying they would boycott any visit to the White House – James Dolan pivoted right with big bucks.
Less than two months prior to the election – and after Trump revealed his divisive plans to build a wall and ban Muslims – the Garden chairman pledged $300,000 to fundraising committee ‘Trump Victory,’ according to public records reviewed by the Daily News.
Dolan, however, opened his wallet to Make America Great Again. He split his donations to ‘Trump Victory’ for $250,000 on Sept. 27, and $50,000 on Sept. 1. He also pledged the maximum of $2,700 to Trump’s campaign alone.
‘Trump Victory’ is a joint fundraising committee between the Donald Trump presidential campaign organization, the Republican National Committee and 11 state Republican committees.
Dolan, according to records, previously pledged money to committees dubbed ‘Romney Victory,’ ‘McCain Victory,’ and ‘Kerry Victory,’ but those donations combined didn’t come close to matching the $300,000 he offered to get Trump elected.
When reached for a comment a Garden spokesman issued this statement, “Mr. Dolan’s contributions are a matter of public record.”
The part of this article that is most interesting is that Dolan donated to “Kerry Victory.” For those of you who don’t follow politics closely, John Kerry is the Democrat who lost to George Bush in 2004. Kerry later went on to become Secretary of State under Barack Obama.
When business people like James Dolan make political donations to candidates on BOTH sides of the aisle, it’s usually because they are looking to get on the winning side rather than the side they most agree with. That’s just good business!
However, given the angst this past election caused, we are sure that there are some people who will see the donation as a reason to call Dolan names and boycott The Knicks.
Congratulations to Egan301 for being first with the correct response!

I am so sorry you are disappointed in Hillary supporters. It is not that it is a Republican viewpoint. It is support of a candidate that is a horrible human being, inexperienced and hiring horrible people. Steve Bannon -he is a professional bigot.
Currently I am sitting back and chuckling.

It’s time to stop this witch hunt. I’ve never seen such ugliness about who people decide to exercise their Constitutional right to vote for. MYOB. If you don’t like how the election turned out, find out why your Party rigged the nomination and fix it so your candidate has a fair chance to be nominated on a national stage.

Can’t wait to find out who this charming fellow is. And no, Obama never got a pass from Day One (his birth, his color, his religion. I can go on & on). Time to do what the Repubs did for 8 years ?
jolael says
Not sure who it is.
Can we all just agree to disagree? It’s getting pretty ridiculous that a difference of opinion can cause people to go to the depths that they have shown. There are a lot bigger issues not only here but in the world and it’s time for people to stop acting like children and come together. Enough already!!

I have no idea. Just wanted to post that pfewww, finally a site with commenters with nuance who don’t hate and scream at eachother. What a relief! Everyone has his/her reasons
Boris Legosi says
It’s Woody Johnson, owner of the Jets. There have already been multiple articles going back to March about his support and fundraising.

We are season ticket holders for the New England Patriots. We see Brady and Gisele – especially Gisele around Boston. The Kraft/Brady/Belichick endorsement of Trump makes us sick and we are bummed that politics has * up our football. We gave away our tickets to friends for Sunday night’s game and we really didn’t watch it. Football used to be an escape. Not anymore. Between Goodell and now this – Football is stressful. Instead of being inclusive it’s the haves and have nots. Gross.
Baileygirl says
No idea on the owner.
I have been boycotting Ben & Jerry’s for years over their support of Mumia, a black man who shot killed a police officer in cold blood. In the face. Even though the officer pleaded for his life. The evidence was overwhelming for conviction and he got life. He started to say he was innocent and he became a cause celebre. Supported by a lot of Hollywood liberals i.e. Mike Farrell of MASH and Ed Asner and the two guys who owned Ben &Jerry’s. Still not fans to this day.
High Steppa says
Woody Johnson who owns the Jets. I don’t care who someone supports because we are all entitled to our opinions. But when they use their celebrity to tell me that I am stupid, evil, or racist not to agree with them, I will never spend another dime on them.
MonaLisa says
Very wealthy business owners are usually Republican – that shouldn’t surprise anyone, especially someone from NYC – they’re pretty smart. I had to look up to see if Jay-Z still owned part of the Nets. Would have been surprising if it were him! haha

No idea but absolutely I’d stop my support of anyone who was giving money to this monster

No idea.
Optional: No, I wouldn’t stop supporting just because someone has different political views. I do stop supporting celebs or others if I think they have done something criminal (I won’t watch a film directed by Romance Polanski, for example). But different political views? Nah. People are allowed their personal beliefs.
MamaCat says
Probably not any of the Isles ownership, the team is abysmal this year, probably would help ticket sales to have Trump supporters in the Barclays.
Seriously, probably not the Isles, Mets, or Jets, lots of Long Islanders in their fanbase, and Long Island is a Republican stronghold, especially when compared to NYC.
irishlass28 says
Jets owner Woody Johnson, who is a known Trump supporter. He needs to worry more about his own team than about politics.
jokerjim65 says
Jimmy Dolan, repercussions…he is in a band, JD and the Straight Shot.
Die hard NYR and NYK fan with season tickets for years and years. I’d never give up my team’s due to a ‘dip* owner or his political beliefs. The whole 1st Amendment and all….
FiyahHotFlashy says
NY Knicks-James Dolan…die hard fan in spite of the owner. Nobody likes him
Dirty Squirrel says
Woody Johnson, NY Jets.
It depends on the issues we differ and how forcefully they push their opinion on the rest of the world. For example, Robert DeNiro has lost any respect I had for him after his reaction to Trump’s campaign and win. So has Schumer, Perry and a few others. I do not give any more weight to a celebrity endorsement than I do one from a non-celebrity.
Dirty Squirrel says
The loss of respect for Schumer and Perry has come mainly from the bigotry Schumer showed in Tampa and the fact Perry’s endorsement comes with a price tag (Shoot, they probably all do.)
slimfast10 says
Definitely Woody Johnson owner of NY Jets, longtime republican backer and donor. I dont care who he supported, I care about the lousy team he continually puts on the field. Season ticket holder for 33 years until the advent of the PSLs, cannot stomach him.

The problem with this whole election is that Trump’s supporters have to hide in shame for voting, instead of * Shaming it is Trump Shaming, let the man do his job then criticize, did Obama receive this much backlash for his policies, most of them bad by the way….
I don’t think bullying in any form is right, isn’t that the Progressive motto, but who is out rioting, not demonstrating, but causing havoc….
You have the right to your opinion and there is always a backlash – on both…
Kittykatlady1 says
Amen!! And no obama got a pass and has been for the last 4 destructive years… and he should be ashamed of himself hiding in the white house while the country is in turmoil! He should be shutting down these riots and uniting the country. He doesn’t want to say anything because he has to get a job after he leavea office…any support for trump is anti support for the minorities (not true but what everyone is brainwashed to think)…so he is just going sit by and watcg…coward!!
mamacita3 says
Agree. This is ridiculous.

Oh, it’s gotta be this!
I didn’t know Jay Z owned a sports team. (I don’t follow hip hop or pro sports.)
The giveaway is the part that says “his fans”, not “the team’s fans”. What team owners have fans? Lol
Gotta be someone with their own fans. And yes, this is surprising. But not really. Really not at all.

oh but i will boycott a business if they do anything like the grubhub guy and ask all trump supporters to resign. thats just plain wrong.

woowoo says
I don’t know who the team owner is.
Several years ago when the ACA was becoming law, John Schlatter (who founded Papa Johns) said he was going to have to cut hours at every store to avoid compliance with the ACA. He lives in a 24,000 sq. ft. house and has an 18 hole golf course in his back yard. It was such a * and insensitive thing to say and do to the people who make his company run. He had to hire a PR company to deal with the fallout. Never bought another PJ pizza again.
HotTeacher88 says
I never bought Papa John’s pizza again, either after that. It was already gross, but my daughter ate it. She has other options for pizza. I thought what he did was terrible. I’m ready now to boycott again.
awynhaus says
If he had raised the price of his pizzas by 10 cents it would have covered the costs. He is just a piece of garbage. I haven’t bought their pizza for myself since the late 90s. And haven’t purchased it for work probably in 10 years. And I don’t regret my decision not even once.
PinkFlamingo says
Me, neither. Now, I only buy my pizza from the local brick oven Mom and Pop joint. Kills three birds with one stone…boycotts Papa Johns, supporting a local small business, and WAY better pizza, to boot! Win-Win-Win
eastender says
Woody Johnson, owner of the Jets. But he’s a well-known Republican…
Egan301 says
Clearly this is James Dolan of the Knicks…
heynow says
I’d have to go with the owners of the Yankees. The Yankees are pretty conservative. They don’t let their players grow out any facial hair. They all are clean cut.
CyndiTx123 says
probably so….because their beliefs don’t believe in women’s rights, equality for all…..i am very liberal and democratic thinking …. especially coming from a very red state when men rule…

If we never shopped or did business with those who have differing political beliefs, we wouldn’t be able to leave the house. Or, we wouldn’t be able to even talk with those IN our home as many of us have differing opinions within our families.
