    That guy who was on greys for a while as “mcsteamy” always forget his name but his wife is rebecca gayheart. They released a statement saying he was taking time off to deal with his depression

    Depends on what I was going for. Addiction to painkillers or sleeping pills is quite common – many years ago my very respectable parents were both addicted to sleeping pills; they managed to get clean – it happens. I think people would understand that it can happen and would accept that the person is trying to get better.

    Just tell the truth. No one would be shocked. He has been in rehab before anyway. No one is buying this depression story. I suppose if he REALLY want to hide it, he could say he is ill with something but no one would believe that either,

    I don’t know who it is but tell the truth. A lot of people have addictions and hiding them opens you up to blackmail and more problems. The truth though, will always set you free. Own your addiction, don’t hide them. No shame in getting treatment anyway, the shame is in continuing down a bad road that will only end with you losing your life, liberty and everything you’ve worked for in life.

    Eric Dane (aka McSteamy from Grey’s Anatomy) is supposedly suffering from depression, thus shutting down production on TNT’s The Last Ship.
    Pretty sure I’d own up to rehab — everybody always assumes that’s what’s happening anyway. It’s not even a mark against you anymore, at least as long as you get clean and stay that way. What’s the point of lying?

    Question: What would I say if I went to rehab? Not sure. I think saying “depression” is far more socially accepted than admitting to any chemical romances! So that was smart. But if my rep was for being a *? I’d tell the truth, and frack em if they don’t like it. I don’t think anyone (except politicians) need to be honest about their issues with the public. If a celeb says they’ve been to rehab, they’re labeled a drunk/druggie forever.

    It’s none of anyone’s business, but personally I’d tell the truth. Life is easier & complicated enough to have to be a lying phony.

    Eric Dane – supposedly for depression, but there was that video of himself, his wife and a third woman with what looked like crack in a bathtub many years ago.

    Tell the truth, people prefer honesty and integrity. Drug abuse can cause depression, so perhaps there is some truth mixed into that PR statement.

    Optional: I’d want to tell the truth. But I also don’t have addiction issues so I guess I don’t know the shame or consequences associated with it so who knows.

    I think it’s sick when people will use whatever the popular mental health ailment that is trending to cover for a junkie. I’m surprised they didn’t mention about his “anxiety” or “exhaustion”.

    They put production for TLS on hold, claiming Dane was experiencing depression. Vikander is addicted to who knows what, was it heroin or coke or something? I don’t know, but Hollywood sure is messed up.

      Depends on the reason for the addiction. If physical pain is the reason, opiods is the only way the addict can move painfree. If drugs are being used to mask trauma, the addict needs therapy–and you’d be surprised how many addicts have been sexually abused as children.

      I live in the real world and I suffer from clinical depression. It’s no joke or excuse or trifle. In my case, it’s a chemical imbalance that caused major anxiety and OCD–which came close to killing me. It upends your life bigtime, and you don’t completely recover…you deal with it day to day as best you can.

    I understand them lying about getting treatment because there’s still some stigma attached to addiction. However, these stars could help others dealing with addiction by talking about the struggle and treatment.

    This is McSteamy, aka, Eric Dane, who has been to rehab in the past. I thought that the depression reason was a little weak. Prayers that he gets clean and stays clean this time!

    Eric Dane. I just read an article about his “depression” and the accompanying comments were all positive mentioning how much courage it took to go public. P T Barnum was correct. He would have made a great Hollywood publicist.

    I’d say I broke my leg and then hobble around for a few weeks after rehab. I’m an actor afterall.
