[Los Angeles Times] Samuel L. Jackson is mindful of what an Oscar win can, and can’t, do to boost an actor or actress’ profile. “I don’t think an Oscar moves the comma on your check like it used to,” he said, “because it’s all about [people] in seats.
“I remember doing a movie with an Academy Award-winner,” he said with a glint in his eye, politely not naming names. “I specifically had a clause in my contract that said I had to make a million more dollars than him because he doesn’t put [people] in seats — I do. It’s knowing who you are and what you’re doing.”

I don’t see why people are saying he’s egotistical when he’s doing the right thing. Hollywood is not about what you’ve earned 80% of the time. We’ve all seen how they will pay the stars of the film. He’s making sure that his paycheck is correct. Especially when Oscars winners themselves have said it doesn’t mean doors automatically opened up for them post win. His films have made 4.9B and he’s been doing this since 1972. All actors should take this mentality on.

Any work in creative fields is absolutely brutal in its competition. Those who do not know their value will not get far. Knowing what you’re worth and not letting up is a part of what makes a successful artist. You don’t have to be a * to be uncompromising in your value. Because when you compromise, you will become just another seal in a pool of sharks. I work in illustration, but it’s much the same there. Know your worth and don’t be ashamed.

Could be Ben Affleck in Changing Lanes.
Back in 2002 he was probably a bit on the outer still following the Gwyneth breakup and then moving into the JLo years.

He’s knows how the industry works and his value in it. Good. to work for him. I am glad for the talented actors who recognize the growing value of smaller budget Indie and independent films and take smaller parts both in range and pay. I think more might have to do that.

He’s done so many movies that there are lots of possibilities. But I’ll throw out a guess: Christolph Waltz in Django Unchained. Waltz had won for Inglourious Basterds, but he wasn’t (probably still isn’t) a big star that would put people in seats. I could see where Jackson might have wanted more money, even though Waltz had a bigger role in the film.

I think it’s “The Negotiator” w/ Kevin Spacey. They were co-leads, but Jackson is first billed. When it came out in ’98, KS was known more as a highbrow actor in quirky roles, well-respected but not a huge commercial draw in what was supposed to be a buddy/action movie.

I have no clue, but my best guess is Django Unchained. Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx.
My fave SLJ movie is still Pulp Fiction.

What an arrogant and * thing for SL Jackson to do and then be proud of it too! Smart, though.

Idk about the other actor or the movie but I do know that Samuel Jackson is an egotistical * and whenever I do watch one of his movies, I watch it despite the fact that he’s in the cast…never, ever because he’s in it.

I have to watch his movies with the sound turned low to be able to tolerate his incessant screaming. He plays the same role in every movie.

He gets to say these things because it’s true. He is the number one box office actor/star-period of all time (fact)

We used to like him a few years ago, but we strongly dislike him now and avoid his movies. He seems like an arrogant jerk. I hear this fairly often from others, too.
