[Blind Gossip] This famous movie actor likes to tell people that he is sober.
Then what was he doing in a liquor store in Los Angeles? Alone. Around midnight. No, he wasn’t buying ice. He was buying a pint of booze.

I’m going with David Arquette, with Courteney Cox being the ‘friend.’ He seems to be struggling lately.

Enough people have pointed out that Mel was actually born in the US but no one has mentioned that he is originally from Detroit not NY. I am pretty sure that is the case.

Robert Downey Jr. (Friends & Lovers)
TexMexLex says
This is a long shot but I would guess, Gerard Butler? Because he mentions being sober a lot and “pint” would fit. Plus, a few years ago when I first heard his sober story I then saw hima few weeks later at a bar in Austin,TX drinking on Sunday morning. It was during South by Southwest festival.

Michael Douglas says that he is sober.
In the movie “Disclosure” he keeps getting secret messages signed by “A Friend.”
Also…buying ice…an ice pick features prominently in “Basic Instinct” and Sharon Stone actually goes to town on a block of ice with it in a scene with Mike.
That’s my guess.

alcoholics who fall off the wagon often don’t want to admit they have a problem and think buying a small bottle/pint will give them some control.

“No he wasn’t buying ice” ice is a term for some type of blow so I think this might be Zac Efron.

Brad Pitt said any number of times his drinking/drugging days were in the past. He blamed his bad habits on his ex and the uninspired marriage. But there were stories that contradicted this claim. Seems to fit.

Mel Gibson.
pretzel says
I’m figuring it’s Mel Gibson. Pint is English and Mel was born in the UK (then moved to Australia). Not sure if American’s use the word booze but that’s also typically an Australian/English term.
Must be a slip-up otherwise he’d have it stashed at home surely?

Mel was born in America. Moved to Australia when he was 12yo.

Mel was born in New York. Americans do use the word booze.
stillmb says
A pint is a bottle holding 375ml or abt 16oz & are sold in American liquor stores.
pretzel says
Oops! not sure who I was thinking about being born in the UK then. Guess is still Mel though.
kspeedian says
Yeah and they also didn’t mean pint like the way Brits use it (& americans who are beer snobs lol jk jk); they meant it like a small bottle of booze, not much bigger than a flask… if Americans say they are “buying a pint for Saturday”, let’s say, they almost definitely mean that & not a glass of beer… It’s the same amount ml wise obviously, but not the same thing lol And as everyone is saying, booze is super common a word to use here in the US… but more means liquor (or “boozing”…
usexpat says
Small irrelevant detail but a US pint is 16oz and an Imperial (UK) pint is 20oz … I could lost off an annoying amount of measurements that are for whatever reason not the same here despite both being called “teaspoon” “cup” or “pint”. It’s lovely trying to make recipes from an American cookbook over here -_-
Small complaint though, the food still tastes just fine 🙂
chicagogirl says
Alcohol is sold in pint bottles here in the U.S. And booze is common slang for alcohol too.
ppfxxx says
Mel Gibson was born in the U.S. not the U.K.
