Not Bowing Down To Bey

November 3, 2016 Blind Gossip

beyonce-cmas-2016[Blind Gossip] On The Country Music Awards last night, Beyonce performed with The Dixie Chicks. Not everyone was happy about it.

While the fans’ opinions of Beyonce’s presence and performance was mixed, we found out that one of the biggest country music stars in the world was genuinely upset by her presence.

He didn’t know she was going to perform until he got there. He said, “What the hell is she doing invading our show?” He was really annoyed. He said, “This isn’t cool. Can’t we have just ONE freaking night?” I don’t think he was being racist. I think it was more that country artists are always given the short shrift when it comes to other awards shows, and this is the one night of the year when it’s about the people whose livelihoods depend on country music. That does not include Beyonce.

The song is a country song, and it was a great performance. It wasn’t like she went up there and beat boxed. And I felt her dress referenced Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, but without loosing a sense of her own style. Why not bring genres together through country music? If she’s performing country, why not have her on?

Kenney Chesney. I have no problem with Beyoncé singing at CMA. The Dixie Chicks have been performing her song on tour so it made sense that she sign it with them. And to everyone who keeps saying that this is wrong because it would be the same as a white person performing at the BET awards, white people do perform and have performed at the BET awards in the past. There have even been country songs that are remakes of R&B songs. Funny. I also remember some controversy when Darius Rucker sang.

Male Artist: Garth Brooks and that’s just pure ridiculousness!

Why are those individuals so concerned about Bey’s performance at the CMAs? Other artists from different genres of music perform at other type of award shows. This is the beauty of America, folks…it’s the common denominator that binds us – the American people. The USA is too segregated with the ideology of Them vs Us mentality. Stop complaining and embrace diversity!

I thought it was an awesome performance! I saw the Dixie Chicks this summer and they did Daddy Lessons. I’m sure the CMAs knew they would have their work cut out for them being up against game 7 of the World Series, so they invited Beyonce to perform the song with the Dixie Chicks. Very clever – and it worked!

Kenny Chesney for the *. Really, Kenny? You were asked to wear a suit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CMAs, but all you could manage was an old shirt. Lol.

Not sure who the county singer is.

Do you think it was a good idea to have Beyonce perform? No.

Looks like people didn’t forget about that pro “panther” performance she and her army of dancers performed at the Super Bowl.

Isn’t Bey from the South? Not a fan, but who cares if she wants to experiment with Country? You didn’t hear anyone complaining about Swift making the transition into Pop.

I don’t particularly care who’s got their panties in a knot over Beyonce.

Why was she there? Ratings would be my guess. The show this year was up against Game 7 of a very historic World Series. Guess where most viewers’ eyeballs were focused? Hint: It wasn’t happening in Nashville!

I’m sick of Bey too but I sure did love that performance by the whole group. Watched it again on YouTube. It’s great to see the Dixie Chicks again! TOTALLY AGREE with him. She loomed and sounded ridiculous in what was clearly a publicity-seeking calculated move. Her dress was in terrible taste, a joke! I admire that that genre of music doesn’t use foul language, denigrate women by calling them *, support gangbanging, and/or rely on half-clad women, etc. Her color had nothing to do with it. Her lack of class does. And WHY would his statement be considered racist? It’s okay for blacks to have their own awards shows,…

FlowerGirl I so agree with you about country music being more “innocent” for the most part. I work in a store and finding modern music that is not going to offend customers is fgetting harder and harder. I am down to jazz, classical, and country. Although I do love alot of pop, r and b and hip hop music, its an ordeal to whittle out the songs with swearing and overtly sexual lyrics in most playlists. I was never a country fan but becoming one.

Whether or not you’re a Beyonce fan, the CMAs INVITED her. So, any displeasure should be directed at those that put on the show. So, male artist is entitled to his feelings and he expressed himself. I see no problem with that.
That said, she did have a country song on her last album and she brought the CMAs their highest ratings (which is what I’m sure producers were betting on).

Not sure who it could have been. What annoyed me most was the Beyonce fans on twitter and social media. Reading through tweets about how Beyonce would “sweep away all the racists at the awards show”, should start singing formation to “make the rednecks mad”, etc. Someone even mentioned how there is never black people at this award show. I love country and watch the CMAs every year. To have her followers make accusations and be so rude was disgusting. The CMAs do not revolve around…

  29. tellmemore says

    November 4, 2016 at 5:51 am

I read his comments the same way – “we” as in country music, not a racial slur. And I agree; while I like many different genres of music, country music is typically treated like an ugly stepchild (just an expression, not comment on actual stepchildren), despite the fact that rock has its roots in country. Also, when I tune in to a country awards show, I want to see country artists perform. Beyonce has plenty of chances to shine, including the Super Bowl; she doesn’t need to be at the CMAs,…

He’s right. I like some of Beys music, but I didn’t watch CMAs to hear her type of music. That said, I did kinda love that she performed with the Dixie chicks, but that was probably seen as a big FU to country because there are alot of stations that still won’t play their music.

I can just hear this in Blake Shelton’s voice. He wouldn’t be raging, just shaking his head like the rest of us at Beyonce, all up in the Dixie Chicks’ airspace, in a bubble wrap dress [‘LOOK AT ME! I paid a surrogate good money for this body’] that I’m pretty sure is on backwards, hosing up attention like a vacuum on an occasion when she should be taking a respectful seat. To quote Avril Lavigne: “She’s, like, so whatever.” Next, please.

Period. She is more talented then all of them without question so why shouldn’t she be invited when she had a hit song? Swift…

Have you ever heard of Darius Rucker (used to be in Hootie and the Blowfish)?? Has won several awards in the country genre. I think that signals much acceptance by this community. Black, check, sings country songs, check.

I firmly believe this has nothing to do with race. I am not a fan of Mr. Chesneys, in fact I know nothing about anything he does, but accusing him of being racist is not fair when there are clearly other issues on the table about her appearance there.

    • Carolina Girl says

      November 4, 2016 at 2:39 pm

Why does race always come up when somebody criticizes a black person? No, color is not the issue. Whether she is white or black. The problem I have with her is the Super Bowl performance honoring Black Panthers and disrespect for law enforcement and what has happened since that performance. People walked away from the Dixie Chicks for their disrespect to our country on stage in another country. They are not black. Her outfit was so out of place. You could see her camel toe.

People not wanting Bey there was NOT racist at all. When we’re watching the BET awards and artists like Robin thicke or justin timberlake who aren’t black perform most black people on twitter aren’t down for that either. Now a lot of country music fans might be racist but racism was not the motivator for their unwelcoming attitude towards her at these particular awards. Also this whole “If you hate beyonce you hate black people” narrative needs to die ASAP. It’s illogical.

    • Krabby Kakes says

      November 3, 2016 at 5:18 pm

Not to mention she’s not a country music artist. She just has one country song. there are country musicians who didn’t even get a chance to perform when all they sing is country music. I get why they feel slighted.

Blake Shelton is the male country star.

Normally I wouldn’t think it appropriate for Beyonce to perform at the Country Music Awards but since she shared the stage with the Dixie Chicks, it was a tribute and a platform for strong women. The D.C. have been much maligned for voicing their political views upon a horrible President.

I don’t think it is a good idea for Anyone who is not a country singer to perform at the CMA’s whether it is Justin Timberlake or Beyonce. It’s almost as though they are saying they need a star outside of Country singers to draw in the ratings. While there are some who are making this about race, inherently I don’t think this is a race issue but a genre issue. This is a night about country music and country singers.

I don’t really care that she performed, but I’m annoyed that she’s getting a backlash when Justin Timberlake did not get the same criticism last year. Neither of them are country artists, and both are from the south.

    • Dirty Squirrel says

      November 4, 2016 at 12:04 pm

Justin Timberlake is good friends with most of the CM artist and is from Tennessee. This just felt like Beyonce is trying to widen her sales demographic after losing audience over her political stances. Had nothing to do with any respect for the industry itself.

No Way… I thought the very same thing that he said when I saw she was going to be on there. Dolly Parton was cut short when she tried to speak after she was honored. Producers screwed up. Beyoncé time should have been spent on Dolly.

Mr Kenny chesney was looking rather salty when the camera panned to him lol.
It was a good performance, but bey was looking out of place (read over-the-top)with her outfit, like she was in her tour attire.

I don’t think that anyone who hasn’t really dedicated themselves to the genre should perform anything. More than likely, she will remain pop and not attempt a crossover. She should have just left well enough alone. One song shouldn’t qualify anyone to just show up.

  95. AB123456 says

    November 3, 2016 at 4:26 pm

First of all this was Beyonce’s first time attending or performing at the CMA’s. He’s acting like she goes to the awards every year and steals the show. Second of all it actually is cool that she was there performing considering the great impact that black people in the south had in the creation of country music. Everyone always assumes that white people made it just like everything else. He needs chill Beyonce (who’s from the south) had just as much right to be there as anyone else.

    • Squeezes99 says

      November 4, 2016 at 10:35 am

I couldn’t disagree with you more. Beyonce is NOT a country singer and making her relevant to country music because she’s black (WTF?) is racist.

      THIS!!!

    • lesjes says

      November 4, 2016 at 1:27 pm

HER ” first time ever attending” is the key. She is not a fan of the music. She is not representative of African American contribution to country music. I’m not sure what her being from the south has to do with it either. It really seems MORE racist to assume that is why her presence was questioned.

    • SistahD says

      November 4, 2016 at 4:56 pm

Have you ever heard the song in question? I’m going to say NO, clearly. It’s a country song that the Dixie Chicks have performed every stop on this year’s tour. They had the best performance of the night!

  96. nosykins says

      November 4, 2016 at 1:04 pm

How does SHE make it all about her?? She shows up and performs. Everyone else seem to make it all about her.
She can’t help her performances are most talked about.

    • Krabby Kakes says

      November 5, 2016 at 12:31 am

Clearly you don’t know about her social media strategy. Even before the performance there were Twitter accounts dedicated to her hyping up the “racism” angle on some “beys gonna show those racist white people how she slays more than they do” and “those white people are gonna be so mad”. Her PR team does this at her instruction.

    • Squeezes99 says

      November 4, 2016 at 10:34 am

Only a racist would see racism in a non-racist comment like the singer in the post. She was definitely out of place there–she’s not a country singer and she did hog the limelight. It’s like Dolly Parton performing at the hip hop awards.

    • MissCassandra says

      November 4, 2016 at 11:40 am

I disagree. I don’t think it was racist at all. The country music awards are about COUNTRY music. Nothing about Beyonce speaks country music. Would it make sense for Dolly Parton to go to the Hip Hop awards show (does this exist idk)? No. I don’t even like country, but I totally get where this guy is coming from. She has her hand in enough pots. Leave the CMAs alone.

    • Squeezes99 says

      November 4, 2016 at 11:14 pm

I just wanted to say that I’m totally freaked out that we both used the Dolly Parton at Hip Hop Awards example within an hour of each other. Mine came first, so you must be psychic.

    • lesjes says

      November 4, 2016 at 1:22 pm

No not automatically racist. Kinda racist to assume it was about her race. Yes other country artists ATTEND other music awards shows. They don’t get onstage and perform unless they are crossover acts like Taylor. Bey is definitely not crossing over. Her wardrobe shows she hadn’t the slightest knowledge of the show nor the genre. The CMAs were used for exposure for Beyonce— she needs the press….NOT!!!

    • Lillyabbi says

      November 5, 2016 at 11:59 am

Honestly I only had a problem with what she was wearing, it just didn’t match the country/blue grass/soul theme. Her performance with The Dixie Chick’s was great IMO.

So I agree…? And disagree….? Like I think because its the CMAs her dress needed to be toned down. But she was still singing soul, and really well.

  97. mousegirl says

My guess is Billy Ray Cyrus, but not sure as I didn’t watch show nor do I listen to country music.

Music is universal. Country music is a mixture of the many musical genres, including the blues. There are and have been so many successful black country artists. Beyonce was invited to sing along with the Dixie Chicks and I saw it on You Tube. It was a great performance!! In years past, there have been other pop/soul/rock star cross-over performances on the CMAs. This was nothing new.

    • JennyJustice says

      November 7, 2016 at 12:03 pm

What I took away from it is that she was there to promote unification v. segregation. It was political in the face of the elections. Beyonce is an avid Clinton supporter. Her presence in a traditionally white genre award show was a “pro-diversity” tactic. And I agree with it. As we are experiencing promises to take us back to the 50’s (white supremacy), involving people in all races, creeds, religions, and colors, reminds us we are the Melting Pot and encourages equality.

    • fufufrankie says

      November 4, 2016 at 10:17 am

And let me add, Blake’s comments are in no way racist. Why is it that if a white person (or a non-black person) criticizes a person who is black, the knee-jerk reaction for many is to question whether the comment is “racist”. Calm down and let people voice their opinions without automatically reading something nefarious into it. Stop the insanity!
