oscar trophy 3[Blind Gossip] When an actor wins an Oscar, you would think that it would practically guarantee him a lifetime of good roles in good films. Not necessarily.

This actor is best known for his role in a classic sports-related film. He won an Academy Award over ten years ago. He thought he was set for life. Well, he does work regularly, but he has chosen films and roles that have resulted in more Razzie nominations than Oscar nominations.

He thinks that his latest TV project is going to be the one to put him back on top.  One director has his doubts:

Yeah, I saw it. It’s not a great performance. He overplayed it. He’s trying too hard. It’s distracting.  Once you don’t believe he is the character, you can’t get that back. It’s too bad, because this really could have been the one [project] to propel him back into the spotlight.

If he’s looking for the spotlight, perhaps he can hit the campaign trail with that Presidential Candidate with whom he has a close connection?

    I was bummed when I heard they cast Cuba for O.J. Cuba is a good actor, but he can’t play O.J. He doesn’t have the build, the face, the brawn, the cut features, the voice, mannerisms. I’ve watched the O.J. movie and all I see is Cuba needing a shave.

    I am too young to remember the trial as it happened live so I’m not sure if OJ really did act the way Cuba was playing him in the 1st episode of the show. If he did, great! If he didn’t, it’s very over dramatic.

    Robert DeNiro — starring as Bernie Madoff in the HBO film, in post-production. He’s a bigwig Democratic supporter, so I’m guessing the candidate is Hillary. (Oscar was for Raging Bull, in which he played boxer Jake LaMotta. Lots of people think he’s tarnishing his legacy by doing crap movies like the current Dirty Grandpa.)

    Cuba Gooding, Jr. He is a pretty good actor, but he’s not good looking at all, and that counts for a lot if you want to be a ‘movie star’ (as opposed to a steadily working character actor). I’m not watching the OJ miniseries — I got enough of that crap back when it happened — but I can imagine him overplaying it.

    He seemed ok in clips I saw but I saw a review that called him “unbelievable” as OJ, partly because he didn’t look like a former pro football player.

    I don’t know what CGJ was offered over the years, but he took roles in movies that almost anyone could tell we’re going to be stinkers.

    Cuba Gooding Jr. I’ve seen him in a couple of interviews (including one on Graham Norton’s most revealing couch) and he seems to have some resentment issues not that far from the surface. I watched American Crime Story last night and it was good, tabloidy fun…but serious dramatic work, it ain’t. I hope his political friend isn’t Ben Carson because his nomination run is over!

    One of his sports-related films was “Radio” in 2003, for which he earned a Golden Raspberry Award nomination for Worst Actor for his performance in the film.

    He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in his other sports-related film, Jerry Maguire (1996).

    Has to be Cuba Gooding Jr. in The People v. O.J. Simpson. I only got about 30-40 minutes into it so far, but his performance was VERY distracting to me. It actually makes me sad to hear that his performance doesn’t get better as the story progresses.

    Sarah Paulson’s performance of Marcia Clark, on the other hand, has been the highlight for me.

The only reason he won for Jerry McQuire was because the NAACP threw a fit they year before because no black people were nominated and they were going to organize a boycott if things “Didn’t Change”. The next year Cuba Gooding Won for a performance that was truly more razzie worthy. The actor in real life is an idiot who happens to think OJ IS INNOCENT

      There is no doubt it was him. No one else would have stabbed her even close to that many times. Crime of passion, he was jealous and enraged.

      Saw Cuba on Michael and Kelly this week…was shocked when he said at the time of the verdict he celebrated and “didn’t care if he was guilty” that he was glad if he was that he got away with it because he was black and thought the cops were at fault. He said it wasn’t till shooting this series that he thought about the two victims and their families. Pretty sick.
