Never Reopening

[Blind Gossip] After they become an actress or a model or a reality star, some celebrities think that it will be easy to supplement their incomes by becoming business people. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as it sounds.

This East Coast TV star started a business. It did not go well. Now she says that it is temporarily on pause. Just temporarily, though.

No.

That business is deader than a door nail. It will NEVER reopen. She has no cash for inventory, the fixtures are gone, and she can’t afford the lease. Even if she did have the money to reopen, somebody should stop her. I tried to talk to her about [a common business term] a few months ago and her eyes just glazed over. The woman seriously doesn’t have a lick of business sense.

Maybe she should try being a rock star. That would be easier, right?

    I have a boutique that has been open just over a year now. Nothing I have ever done has been harder, including marriage, motherhood, or any job I have ever had in my life! It’s like living in a casino, with financial stakes just as high if not higher, will it be a winning day or a losing day???? Fingers crossed that second year will be easier. Definitely not for the faint of heart, you have to have resolve of steel….

    My first thought was Melissa Gorga from RHWNJ. She opened her clothing store maybe last year? Starting a business.is hard and usually takes 2 years to turn a profit…even if you’ve had experience in starting a business from the ground up.

    No, I haven’t tried to open a small business. I always wanted to open a collectible/gently used type shop, because there isn’t one around here. But when just figuring out how much I would have to sell to be able to pay the lease, utilities, setting it up, obtaining stock, etc, I got cold feet. I’m not much of a gambler.

    It’s one of those NY housewives, by George! Ah, yes, I just did a moment’s worth of research to discover that it IS one of them. Melissa Gorga(n)’s boutique store, Envy, has closed. Surprise, surprise (said in a Gomer Pyle voice.). Seriously though, naming your store after a deadly sin is foolhardy, as it will turn some people off.
    Yeah, I did. Didn’t do well as I was going through a dee-vorce at the same time. Wanted to throw the pretty Depressionware at (ex) hubby’s head!

    Melissa Gorga on Real Housewives of NJ. Her shop Envy is closed. Makes sense to me. Running a small business is hard work and takes capital and commitment. Melissa just wants to be a showpiece.

    Not brave enough to open a business, although I sometimes wonder how I would fare with a tanning salon or daycare!

    I did have my own small business for 12 years. The first year is the toughest. You make mistakes, some that will reverberate with you for months if not years to come. Some mistakes can compound themselves and some can just outright kill your business. I made a few in my first year, but thankfully was able to recover and do well.

    This is Melissa Gorga from RHONJ. She was not the owner. She got % of sales for promoting the store on the show and posting pics to Instagram.

    Retail is hard and a full time commitment. Fashion is either ridiculously overpriced, or cheap and disposable – lasting a season (before it falls apart in the wash). There’s not a lot in between for the average gal….. Then there’s the insane sizing variables.

    I’m not surprised the store failed, but it’s a convenient story line for the show.

      I’m amazed it didn’t “accidentally” burn down so they could recoup more of losses and then not bother reopening.
