Late Night Finger Pointing

January 26, 2017 Blind Gossip

[Blind Gossip] Behind the scenes of this network, there’s chaos over two late night hosts!

Both of the shows are under performing compared to the competition [in their own time slots]. It’s causing a lot of anxiety and finger pointing. It’s the host’s fault! It’s the writer’s fault! It’s the producer’s fault!

The thing that’s making this even worse? The two hosts are now being pitted against each other!

There’s lots of chatter about [the two hosts] switching time slots. This makes no sense. If you can’t even win in your own time slot, how are you going to win in a time slot that’s even more competitive? The staff people from the two shows aren’t even speaking to each other because it’s now turned into an internal fight and everybody’s protecting their turf.

Maybe the two hosts could have a dance off? Or a sing off?

    Corden & Colbert

I don’t really care for any of the late night hosts. Fallon has such immature, middle school style of humor, and just isn’t funny to me. Colbert is not that entertaining when playing himself, and he has an undercurrent of hate that I can feel. Corden is okay, better than Fallon and Colbert for sure. I kinda like Jimmy Kimmel. I liked Craig Ferguson. Not impressed much with Seth Meyers. Seems nobody can do good interviews anymore. Greg Gutfeld would be good on late night.

There will never be another Johnny Carson, that’s all there is to it. He could tell political jokes about both parties without revealing his preference. Now it’s obvious, which I could deal with, but it gets so hateful. Not funny, just hateful. All the current female comedians humor derives from hate – Chelsea Handler, Amy Shummer, Kathy Griffin, etc..just very sad.

I don’t like Stephen Colbert at all . I love love love James Corden . I’ve loved James for awhile now . Since he was on Doctor Who for a couple of episodes.

But I’d rather have Craig Ferguson and Geoff !! I loved that show !!

I think that would be. A great idea. I love James Corden! And can’t stay up that late to watch him. Can’t stand Stephen Colbert though. Unfunny failure imho

The only reason I don’t watch Corden more is because he’s on too late. I would watch him over Jimmy Fallon any day. Move or cancel Colbert’s show.

You’re a network executive. What would you do with the two hosts/shows?

I’d tell both to RELAX! The competition is going to implode on themselves and they will come out on top.
Obviously, James wants Stephen’s spot. And, Colbert has been trying to entertain with his hands tied. I’d let Stephen do what Stephen does best and run with it.

Agreed. Always loved Colbert, very intellectually comedic…loved the way he made me think, want to know more and laugh about serious issues, even myself at times! Which doesn’t always go over well with many. Late night, when allowed…not so much at all, most just want empty entertainment.

Sorry, Corden, I do not see a Brit winning he Late Night wars. But have done ok with the Late Late night slots.

And Colbert was a bad fit from the beginning. He was all schtick, and then had to change it, so lost is edge from Day 1.

    Colbert and Corden.

Admit that late night talk has changed, and nobody’s going to get the numbers that Carson pulled in the 20th century. There are just too many choices to do that anymore. Although I get why Corden seems more 11:30-friendly, since he’s closer to Fallon’s goofiness than Colbert is.

    Colbert and Corden.

I was not a fan of Colbert on Comedy Central. And, continuing his character on CBS as a host is the antithesis of what that show is supposed to be. Corden is not funny in the slightest. I understand that his car karaoke is a net hit, but that doesn’t equate to a successful TV show. CBS screwed the pooch not giving Craig Ferguson the show after Letterman left. I didn’t watch Letterman, but I watched Ferguson all the time. They should fire the lot and start over.

Optional: If the shows are really doing that bad, then I would say change content, writers and maybe the format. Both Stephen and James are talented hosts, so there’s no point in changing them . I mean, if there was someone out there that could make a better host, it might be worth replacing, but I can’t think of anyone.

    Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers.

Maybe switching them isn’t such a bad idea. Seth does more talking, and Jimmy does more skits and oddball things, the way Letterman used to do on NBC.

I’d fire Colbert and Corden and bring in new talent to fill their underwhelming shoes. Someone younger and relatable with sharp comic wit and interview skills.
Or maybe try a new to shake things up further with someone OTHER than white guys. Women, POC?

They can prop up Colbert for as long as they want, but he’s not working because he alienated half his audience from the get-go and it will be near impossible to win that audience back. Also, his character was well known and beloved on Comedy Central. He should have stuck with what he knew and what was working. No one seems to like Colbert the real, unfunny person. He should have stuck with Colbert the funny character.

    • NoseyNana2008 says

I think CBS sent a signal that they are firmly behind Colbert by tapping him to host the Emmys this year instead of Corden, who has successfully hosted other big awards shows.

    • buddypal says

Corden gets more promotion on CBS than Colbert does. Colbert has the weird persona he created at Comedy Central that he can’t shake. Corden however would do only “Slightly better” than Colbert.

Colbert has not created any buzz that Corden has, How many You Tube Clips and Viral Videos has Colbert created compared to Corden?
