[FOX News] J.J. Abrams went against his better judgement and once hired a “difficult” actor.
“There was one time on Alias an actress who will remain unnamed who came in and she was … very rude to people and literally a couple people on the crew cried,” he revealed during his Tribeca Film Festival talk on Friday with Chris Rock.
He continued, “A couple weeks later after she was done, I got a call about her. Some producer wanted her maybe for this other project and I said, ‘You cannot hire this person. She was a disaster. She was horrible.’ He said, ‘Thank you very much.’ Didn’t hire her.”
Unfortunately, Abrams got an angry call from the actress a week later.
“She’s like, ‘I’ve heard that you said don’t hire me to this producer’ and I said, ‘You were a disaster! What are you talking about?’” adding, “It was one of the only times I hired someone even though I knew that was going to happen and it happened.”
Alias had many guest stars over its five season run, but some notable names include Faye Dunaway, Angela Bassett and Vivica A. Fox.
BG Note: Other actresses who have guest-starred on Alias include Stana Katic, Sarah Shahi, Michelle Forbes, Kelly McDonald, Gina Torres, Olivia d’Abo, Agnes Bruckner, Marisol Nichols, Peggy Lipton, Isabella Rossellini, Amy Irving, Lindsay Crouse, Patricia Wettig, Tracy Middendorf, and Sonia Braga.

Rude Actress:
[Optional] Who is the rudest person with whom you have ever worked? Did you do anything about it?
Jillianne6 says
Faye Dunaway. She was going to be recurring and when they started the episode arc she was going to feature in they changed the ending to have her killed so that she couldn’t come back.
Not Stana. I don’t even remember her being on Alias. Not Lena Olin. The whole kerfuffle with her coming back to the show was her agent being a *. Could be Vivica, but she is a well-known *. They knew what they were getting into. Where as Faye back then could get the gig with her name only, then…
rhiannon14 says
I forgot Vivica. Add her to the list.
JennyJustice says
Vivica Fox or Stana Katic are my guesses. Faye is too easy and already has a bad reputation.
Rude co-worker – there have been a number of rude co-workers I’ve had to deal with. Better to take the high road and let them play out their issues and eventually expose themselves. It might seem frustrating to keep quiet, but in the end, they only make themselves look bad and if they get fired or otherwise put in their place, that’s all the satisfaction I need.

Melissa George!
mrcellophane says
I have a hard time believing it’s Gina.. Something about her seems cool. I’d say Melissa George.
taxi123 says
I don’t think it’s either. They both had runs on the show longer than a couple weeks – they brought Gina back a few years after her first, which wouldn’t happen if he disliked her, and Melissa had 23 episodes to her credit.

I worked with an incredibly rude, narcissistic monster lady for a while. It was awful, no one could see what she was doing until she did it directly TO them. If you tried to tell someone what was happening, it all made you sound overly sensitive and petty. (Does anyone know someone like this?)
I did the only thing I could, which was keep my head down and do the living heck out of my job. I just.watched and waited. Eventually she did her thing too many times and made a giant mess for herself.
kimshady says
No idea but it’s definitely not Vivica. She is a delight in person. But since Stana Katic was just canned, I’ll go with her.

vivica?
erininla35 says
Besides Isabella, I am not familiar with any of the other guest actresses. We’re not talking A-listers, Toto.

Faye Dunaway is an Oscar winner. Amy Irving was nominated for an Oscar and she was married to Stephen Spielberg.
Marybel says
My guess would be Stana Katic. She works overtime to be a B.
Moonpie says
Stana Katic.

I’m going to go with Melissa George
melrose71 says
This has to be Faye Dunaway.
gc02ef says
I’m thinking this is either stana Katic (with the Castle stuff going on) or Gina Torres
I have worked with rude people. Eventually I give it right back to them. I have learned to stand up for myself over the years.
Summiko says
Rude actress: Melissa George is the first actress that comes to mind. I have always gotten an unpleasant vibe from her.
Optional: I have worked with a few memorable rude people. The older and wiser me would not put up with their sh*t now.

Amy Irving
Rudest was a former boss who was a narcissist. And was unethical. Bad combo.
WhoDatGirl says
My guess is that the rude actress is Vivica A Fox. I seem to remember she had diva issues when she was in her heyday, and Jimmy Kimmel even banned her from his show after she walked off the stage mid-interview.
The rudest person with whom I have ever worked was my previous boss, who regrettably was also the owner of the company for which I was working. I got another job; that’s what I did about it.
lagally says
This is Vivica Fox!
realityhooked says
Faye dunaway

Lena Olin

Since ” Killing the Show” seems to be about Stana Katic, and she’s listed as a guest star, it could be her. Or is that too obvious?
I have worked with both rude and quick to catch on and with kind, but slow to catch on. I would take kind but slow any day of the week. As for the rude, I kept a log of his breaking of company policies and what their affects were on our output. Kept it as professional as I could; companies usually don’t care about feelings until it hurts profits.
MaryRead says
Giving she’s back in the news for leaving Castle, I’m betting it’s her.
CyndiTx123 says
THIS! That is what came to mind… this Stana Katic – could be the rude person that Ace is describing!
kookywooky says
Ugh, all of them.
bananas says
I guess Faye Dunaway..isn’t she supposed to be difficult?
Yes, I told a coworker to take her disgruntled-pancake-house-waitress manners elsewhere. No offense to the pancake house waitresses out there. The pancake waitresses in my town are notoriously over life and rude.

If you’re an actor, you should be grateful for all work and carry yourself accordingly. You’re career is only guaranteed based on your last project.

Faye Dunaway
stolidog says
You’ve got to be pretty out of control to actually make people cry, so….Faye Dunaway.
Squeezes99 says
She’s definitely got a bad reputation for being a diva, but don’t all of the producers in Hollywood already know that? The blind says that a producer called and asked what the actor was like to work with, so it would seem to be someone who is not as well known.
KatarinaJ says
I agree except Faye worked more consistently and developed this rep decades ago. Maybe this was a young producer wondering how she was most recently, only familiar with a far back rep and not anything recent. Doesn’t rule her out.
ecksor says
On the contrary, it makes perfect sense. She is still a great actress despite her horrible reputation and well-publicized addiction issues. The other guy probably wanted to test the waters of her then current state and see if she mellowed out. No such luck, apparently.
