His Formative Years

April 20, 2016 Blind Gossip

boy afraid 2[Blind Gossip] This very famous actor from a well-known family has starred in some classic films and on more than one TV series.

While he has had a lot of professional success, his personal life has taken a really dark turn over the past few years.

There’s something about his formative years that may explain a lot of his destructive behavior. He was abused by an older man when he was a boy. He has told a few people about what happened, but it’s not something that he likes to talk about.

We don’t know if this makes him a more sympathetic character, but it does mean that his out-of-control behavior may have its roots in something over which he had no control.

I believe this is Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Clue being “Roots” which he’s starring in the remake. His stepfather has a past of abusing young boys and there have long been rumors that JRM had been one of his victims as well.

Actor: Corey Feldman (parents famous in industry but NOT as actors). He will be giving handjobs for crack soon.

[Optional] Do you think this explains or excuses his behavior as an adult? No. Once you reach the age of 21 everything that happens is a result of your action or inaction.

I love how everyone’s saying “it doesn’t excuse his behaviour”, as if he has to answer to the general public. IMO Charlie Sheen’s got nothing to prove to anyone. It’s a fairly well-known fact that addiction can be caused (in some part) by childhood trauma. I have personally battled with morphine addiction and I know that it can lead to some very erratic behaviour in some cases. But, even after all of that, it’s not his responsibility to answer to you.

Yeah, I think it explains it somewhat, but at some point you have to admit you are an adult and choose not to live in the past. You can either be a victim or a survivor

Poor Charlie Sheen. I always thought that he was the one that abused a young Corey Haim because he said someone famous (male) took advantage of him when was filming LUcas. Charlie Sheen was in that film. Maybe it was someone from that film that abused them both…. Gosh, who knows!!

  11. terry123 says

    April 20, 2016 at 5:29 pm

Yes, I read that too. I think it was Dax Shepard who mentioned that in his article about his abuse.

I think that no it doesn’t excuse what Charlie Sheen did, but I sure hope he gets help or finds peace before he dies. HIV related or not, he lives ddangerously, and it’s not good for his kids. He should take the energy and put it into fighting abuse. It’s hard, but obviously living with this is harder. But it explains him saying “winning”. In his mind, was he “winning ” compared to his abuser, was he purposely telling the world he was strong to tell himself that? Get help dude.

  13. ChairmanMeow says

    April 20, 2016 at 4:41 pm

Charlie Sheen. He’s been on movie sets in uncredited roles since the age of 8. The dude was expelled from school a few months before graduating because of truancy and bad grades, why didn’t his father get him help then? Obviously something was wrong with him. He needed some kind of help. When the Heidi Fliess stuff came out, no? No help then, Martin? I always found it odd that Emilio never shunned him ever. He always seemed like the best brother ever. Charlie must have confided in…

  14. SilentStar says

    April 20, 2016 at 3:34 pm

Charlie Sheen. Definitely explains things. I could have guessed without knowing. Everyone should read Gabor Mate’s book “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts” to learn about abuse, trauma and other forms of pain are at the root of addiction. It doesn’t excuse bad behavior, but understanding allows you to forgive.

  15. PinkLily says

    Charlie Sheen

His behavior seems more like bipolar disorder, taken to an extreme level due to level of money and opportunity in his celebrity lifestyle. He has mentioned he has been diagnosed a few times, then other times he claims the doctors were wrong. If you know bipolar well, you can almost see signs of mania in a person. There is a look, a way of speaking/mannerisms, when they have an episode of mania.

If this is Charlie Sheen, it’s not surprising. Hollywood is full of creeps.

However, that does not excuse him for his actions of what he has done to other people.

  17. Asha says

    April 20, 2016 at 3:05 pm

Charlie Sheen? His dad and brother are actors too, but it seems Martin Sheen wasn’t the best father so I wouldn’t be surprised his kids were surrounded by disgusting Hollywood types. He has been in successful films and TV shows and he has hit rock bottom recently.

I think it’s Charlie sheen cause his dad is Martin Sheen and he was on Men and Spin City. I feel really bad for him, I was molested as a child and know how hard it is. There’s a 20% chance of a child sex abuse victim to NOT be an addict as an adult. While his behavior isn’t excused, I understand the turmoil he must’ve dealt with.

You know, I’ve never fully bought MJ as sex abuser. I freely admit I’m no expert, except as a survivor, and I mean no disrespect to any possible victims. He tried so hard to maintain a childlike demeanor, with his high speaking voice and other nonthreatening qualities, and I just didn’t feel a lot of predation coming off of him. My best guess is he was simply deprived of most of the affection, experiences, and growth of a normal childhood and could never quite progress past it.

      April 21, 2016 at 4:36 pm

This explains his behavior as an adult, it doesn’t excuse him, no, he had no control over what happened to him, only he can change the direction of how he lets what happen to him control him. Unknowingly he’s letting his abuser win by being distructive, I hope he gets the therapy that he needs before it’s too late.

Optional question: Yes, to an extent. I always have sympathy for anybody who had to experience something like that as a kid, as it does take a toll. But at some point we have to just decide to take the reins. We can’t change what may have happened to us as a kid, but we are in charge of who we are and where we’re going as an adult. And if that’s not possible then we have to seek outside help to make it happen.
