Don’t Drag Me

January 10, 2017 Blind Gossip

[Blind Gossip] While some lauded and some loathed Meryl Streep’s political speech at the Golden Globes, at least one actor or actress would have preferred to have just been left out of the whole thing!

At the after-party [they] seemed a little annoyed. Not like angry and shouting, just annoyed. [They were] saying, “But why did she have to drag ME into it? She didn’t ask me if she could talk about me. She should have asked! Don’t drag me into your controversy. I have a mouth. If I want to talk about how I feel about Donald Trump, I can do it myself!”

I think that this is Viola Davis. Everyone else that Meryl mentioned was just where they were from but Meryl said that Viola was born in a shack and was a sharecropper’s daughter. Even I felt that was sort of pushing the limit.

Gotta be Dev Patel. All she said about Gosling was that he was nice and Canadian, but the quote about Patel is a little iffy: “Dev Patel was born in Kenya, raised in London and is here for playing an Indian raised in Tasmania. So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners.” I’d be annoyed too.

Agree totally — Natalie Portman. I think Natalie appreciates creating her own narrative.

No one cares what Meryl thinks outside of that room. She is a great actress but knows zero about life for real people outside of the Hollywood bubble. I bet she regrets her rant in a few years when the world still keeps spinning. Or maybe she wont– these self-absorbed Hollywood types love to hear themselves talk.

Was it Ryan Gosling in her speech? It would be him, he’s low key and never associates himself with any political parties. He & Eva live a very, very private life. He wouldn’t want to be dragged into someone else’s thoughts on politics, even if you are Streep.

Hmm… either Amy Adams or Ryan Gosling

I definitely don’t see Sarah Paulson, Viola Davis, or SJP — who are all outspoken politically- objecting.

She also mentioned Dev Patel, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, and Natalie Portman.

Definitely don’t see TLJ objecting as her reference to him only made him look sensible and smart.

Yes, I’d prefer to b asked first.

Gonna guess Natalie Portman because she’s from Jerusalem and Trump is pro-Israel. And in answer to your question, no, I wouldn’t want to be dragged into a political speech without my permission. I know that Streep meant no harm to those folks but I can see where they might get annoyed by being included in it.

    • artistsnow says

      January 10, 2017 at 7:24 pm

THIS for sure. And Natalie looked stunned when Meryl said jerusalem.

I however, do not think this was a slight at all to Israel. There was another actor – born in London – and Meryl didn’t say “UK”.

  33. scoot22 says

    January 10, 2017 at 12:41 pm

Sounds like this may be an actress considering the use of the word “they”. She didn’t name many males. I would say Viola Davis because of the way she was looking on stage during Meryl Streep’s speech.

I would be pissed if I was brought up and used for someone else’s hate speech. Meryl seems like she considers her profession to be more important than others. It is not. You pretend for a living. You don’t save lives. How is it that you can support a child rapist but not the soon to be…

Just rewatched the speech. It’s either Hugh Laurie or Tommy Lee Jones.

Yes if it were personal I would prefer to be asked first but her speech didn’t cross any lines of confidentiality that I could see. I’m a little confused by this blind. I’m sure others will get it right away.

  36. KeeBoredMembr says

    January 10, 2017 at 12:09 pm

Tommy Lee Jones. His name was not included in the portion of the speech regarding DJT.

IIRC, she mentioned that after complaining of having to work late on set, (paraphrased) TLJ said, “Isn’t it wonderful Meryl? As actors, that we get the opportunity to do what we love – Act”.

  37. OrangeZest123 says

    January 10, 2017 at 12:08 pm

    Actor: Tommy Lee Jones

She only spoke about Hugh Laurie, Ryan Gosling, Dev Patel, and Tommy Lee Jones. Hugh Laurie already made his opinions known earlier that night, and Ryan Gosling & Dev Patel just looked honored to even have her utter their names. Based off of what she said I guess it’s Tommy Lee Jones who’s annoyed? But I don’t know why he would be at the after parties.

Optional: If Meryl Streep ever learns my name and speaks of it I will die a happy woman.

  39. buddypal says

    Actor: Tommy Lee Jones?

Optional: If it’s him, I don’t see how the story she told made any indication on how Tommy feels about feels about Trump. All she said was that he said “isn’t it such a privilege, Meryl, just to be an actor” so i’m not sure what he’s upset about. I can’t imagine Ryan Gosling or Dev Patel being upset either.

    • buddypal says

      January 10, 2017 at 1:51 pm

On second thought, maybe this is Dev Patel. I dont think he was born in Kenya actually, so maybe he was annoyed that she got that part wrong.

  41. I Am PunkA says

    January 10, 2017 at 11:55 am

Ryan Gosling is my guess. He is very private, so probably didn’t like the name drop in this way.

By the way, her speech was great when she stuck to honoring performers, but her context on foreigners was stupid and undermined her whole message. Nowhere did Trump go after foreigners, and certainly not legal ones. Just after Mexican illegals mostly, or those south of Mexico who come illegally. Conflating it to foreigners was stupid and dishonest. And Trump sucks.

Absolutely i would want them to ask permission. She was wrong to drag people into her preachy speech without even knowing their own perspectives and asking for their blessing to share their backgrounds. She is a hypocritical virtue signaler who watched too much CNN and clearly doesnt research is stories are false or not. (Trump never mocked a disability. easy enough to look into)

The two men she mentioned that were there were Dev Patel and Ryan Gosling.

In this case, I don’t know why anyone would be upset. She wasn’t including them in her political views (maybe they feel differently that dangerous clown) She was making a point about Hollywood, the arts, and in the bigger picture, this country, is made up of people from every corner of the globe

Ryan Gosling, she mentioned he was born in Canada. Mentioning me in this instance, it would have been nice to have a heads up. It is a political statement and on national tv. Indeed. We need to get rid of the EC. It has thrust upon us two horrific non-popular vote winners in just 16 years. Enough! It’s 2017; let all votes count equally.

    • spaceship says

He won fair and square, and people need to let it go and move on. No one complained about the electoral system before, nor did they have a problem with it, but since Trump won, now the system is “all wrong”……….so hypocritical! Trump won because the people were sick and tired of not being heard or listened to, and they showed that at the polls.

I wouldn’t be too happy if one of my friends mentioned my name or included me in speaking about something controversial without checking with me first. Although, in this case i do not believe she had malice because what she quoted was about something he said in regards to not complaining about life cause they were privileged to be actors. That was it. so, not really sure if this was bad…JMO. ☺
