    This is obviously Novak Djokovic and his upset at Wimbledon last year which is one of the 4 Majors in tennis. The female athlete could be Maria Sharapova but she was suspended last year even tho her candy line is called Sugarpova (the syrupy sweet clue). So I’ll go with Eugenie Bouchard since is known for syrup I believe.

    There have been rumours that Djokovic was cheating, his wife stopped turning up at his matches and he stopped winning.

    The clue is “syrupy sweet” like Maple Syrup…Canadian… Bouchard. Plus sponsors love her and she was the one that was really harsh about Sharapova.

    This has to be about the 2016 Wimbledon where Novak had that weird loss in the third round. He looked like he couldn’t even stand up straight. Plus the emoji is of a person joking (The Djoker). And the woman has to be Genie Bouchard. Syrup is obviously a reference to Canada, and she is extremely critical of other players.

    Given the “love match” clue, Novak Djokovic seems to best fit the blind item. And the female athlete clues would seem to describe Eugenie Bouchard. That would be some big story if true.

    Clues: “major” (Djokovic lost in the quarters at the French Open & no one knew why… retired early at Wimbledon & is potentially taking a long break from the tour), Bouchard has been VERY vocal about Sharapova & the doping scandal.

    I feel like this might be a tennis player, with the word “match” being used. I don’t know who the guy is, and the only female I can think of that recently criticized another female in her sport is Eugenie Bouchard (raking Maria Sharapova over the coals for cheating and doping).

      He’s been on a major downward spiral since Rio last summer. His losing at Wimbledon was not a horrible surprise, especially since he’s basically without a full-time coach. Injuries and some sort of distraction (endless speculation from McEnroe etc…)

      This absolutely cannot be Andy Murray. The only three current male tennis players that could apply to are Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Nadal is not married, and Federer hasn’t experienced a single loss in a major tournament this year.

      That leaves Novak Djokovic if this is indeed about a tennis player. He’s had shocking major losses all year. He’s married. And there are many rumors about his infidelity.

      The only reason I think this might not be him is that it says that his wife attended the event. Jelena is due to deliver their second child any time now. She stayed home for obvious reasons.

      There is no way “He is one of the greatest athletes of all time in his sport” could be applied to Andy Murray. Also, Maria Sharapova was not at Wimbledon this year.
