[Blind Gossip] There was an incredible amount of debate over which of these two talented actors would take over this iconic role.

Here is a fun glimpse at one unexpected factor that may have decided who won the role.

They were actually very comparable. Similar height and build, both good-looking, they could both do the broody look and voice. Like I said, it was close. We could have gone with either one and been comfortable with it. What clinched it for [one of the decision makers] was when we covered up most of the actor’s face. There was just something about [Winner’s] mouth and jaw line and chin that was dead on character. The chin clinched it!

Good chin? Bam! You’re hired!

    By the time he was cast in Twilight, not so much.
    Nowadays he looks like a muppet on heroin.

    Patterson for the win…. he does have that good jawline the rest is kinda meh,… but he will be good for tha batman role… not to much to say, and looking broody is his acting style…

    It’s weird to imagine Edward Cullen at batman. Lol. But hopefully he does a good job. When I heard it was between the two of them I thought the same thing about his chin and jawline. Hoult just doesn’t have the jawline for it. Both good actors though.

    I know a lot of people don’t seem to like the casting but I think he’ll do fine. I’m slightly disappointed because he does so many intersting indies these days (I’m one of the few who never saw Twilight) and I assume this will change the trajectory of his career. Oh well, his choice. I guess he’s ready for that level of fame again. A strong chin/jawline isn’t a prerequisite, though, look at Christian Bale.

    I will reserve judgement until I see the film. I thought Ben Affleck was a horrible choice, but turned out to do a great job. So! Proof is in the pudding!

    OPTIONAL: Why are they casting so many soft looking men as Batman lately? Clooney, Affleck, Pattinson … where are all of the really manly looking Batmans anymore?

      I’ve been wondering that myself for the last few years, this younger generation really seems to like the skinny emo-type boys. I prefer the masculine rugged types. Each to their own I guess. It’s kind of weird though to me.

      I still think Christian Bale’s batman is the best batman. He had the Bruce Wayne look/swagger down cold and he did a better job of bringing out the darkness in Batman’s story better than just about anyone else.

      This movie will show a young Batman, the beginning of his days as a superhero, so it makes sense to cast a younger actor.

    Robert Pattinson is the next Batman. Nicholas Hoult was also up for the role. At first I wondered if Robert is a good choice, but he’s done some incredible work in the last few years and previous superhero choices have blown people away when they were first announced i.e. Michael Keaton, Heath Ledger, etc.

      Thank you, Captain Obvious. Lol jk but it’s clear the OP is talking about superhero film casting choices, in general, and not solely the people who play the good guys. And it’s true- when Ledger was first cast (someone so handsome who previously only played romantic/brooding types) people were like “WTF?!” & he ended up being great. Same with Affleck, Leto, even Tom Hardy. People always complain when it’s adapted work & they already have a “vision” of the character. I’m excited for Pattinson!

      Agree! Keaton was an excellent Batman and there was so much doubt about him at first.

      This will be a young Batman so a younger actor is a good idea.
