[Blind Gossip] This film actor is VERY upset that he did not receive an Academy Award nomination!
He actually gave a great performance and received a ton of nominations this awards season. So, why didn’t he get an Oscar nod? His production company may be to blame!
The production company told him that they would be campaigning just for him in that category, but he later found out that they had actually split their campaigning efforts between him and another actor in the same category. Because they didn’t go all in for either actor, the result was that neither of them got nominated!
Ouch.
He was doing a publicity tour for the film in a major city when he got the bad news.
He had been very enthusiastic throughout the junket. Very professional, never complained, even after doing back-to-back interviews for four hours straight. He wanted the film to do well.
After the Oscar nominations came out, he was really angry. He spent that whole evening getting drunk and yelling at people. The next day, he refused to leave his hotel room, saying things like he was done with this film, what’s the point in promoting any more, etc.
[One of his costars] had to go to his room and sit down with him for a while and convince him to come out to the press room.
He eventually came out and did the interviews, but he had trouble holding it together and he definitely didn’t want to talk about the Oscars. At some points he looked like he was on the verge of tears.

Actor: Armie Hammer
Film: Call Me By Your Name
Armie Hammer – best known for his role as the Winkelvoss twins in The Social Network – was upset that producers of the acclaimed film Call Me By Your Name cost him an Academy Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Here’s what happened.
Call Me By Your Name was carried by two actors, Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer.
When it came time for Oscar nominations, producers campaigned for Timothee Chalamet for Lead Actor… but then campaigned for both Armie Hammer and AND Michael Stuhlbarg for Best Supporting Actor.
Michael Stuhlbarg gave a good performance, but he was only on screen for a few minutes of the film. By campaigning for two actors in the same category, producers essentially split the vote and neither wound up with an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
At the time the nominations were announced, the cast was in Rome, Italy on a promotional tour for the film. Hammer was shocked that he did not get an Oscar nomination. Then he found out what the producers had done… and his shock understandably turned to anger.
Costar Timothee Chalamet is the one who went to his room, calmed him down, and convinced him to resume the promotional tour.
Armie Hammer is a terrific actor and his performance in CMBYN should have received an Oscar nomination. The producers blew it on this one.
Fortunately, Hammer will have another chance… as a CMBYN sequel is now in the works!
Congratulations to Bbatty for being first with the correct response!
MaisyDaisy says
Armie Hammer may think he deserved an Oscar nod but he is wrong. He was horrible in “Call me…” A decade too old for the part to begin with and way too self-conscious. You could see him “act” from a while away, actually see him thinking “The camera is on me. Must…act…now.”
luvprue1 says
There was a lot of great movies out, and a lot of great actors who headline them, and even more supporting actors he had to go up against. I thought the movie ” Call me by your name”, was uninteresting, and a little bit boring. His acting in the movie was ok at best. So I doubt he would have won even if the production had went all out for him.
HalfBloodPrincess says
I am going to say this is 100% Armie Hammer.
Timothee Chalamet was nominated for best actor for the OSCARS.
Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg both failed to get best supporting actor nominations, and Hammer got nominated at all the other awards shows.
This doesn’t surprise me at all he seems spoiled and prissy. I loved the film, but it was Timothee Chalamet who was the real scene stealer.
tcalvar359 says
There is no doubt in my mind this is Armie Hammer.
1) He was arriving in Europe promote Call Me By Your Name the day of the nominations
2) Michael Stuhlbarg was the other actor being pushed for a supporting actor nomination by Sony
3) He posted his Oscar ballot in Instagram
4) There’s an interview of him with Timothee Chalamet in Rome where seems to be very uninterested in the interview.
maniglows says
this is clearly armie hammer 🙁 i love him and timmy so much, but his performance just simply wasn’t as great as timmy’s. or maybe timmy’s was so great, it just made armie’s look basic? i don’t know. but yes, because of all the hype, i guess he assumed he was getting an oscar nom. but people were also campaigning for michael stuhlbarg to get one too. his performance was great. evidence: armie’s in paris with the cast rn, they’re doing a lot of promo, plus he’s been wearing sweatsuits at the
maniglows says
promo’s lately? guess it’s his way of saying he doesn’t care. plus, in an interview they did recently, it looked awkward. but timmy and armie look like really close friends, so i hope this doesn’t change anything

Hugh Jackman. The key is figuring out who the other actor is who didn’t get the no, because of studio attention split. Call Me was done by Sony Pictures Classics who didn’t have any other films that would have best actor contender. Showman was by Fox who also did The Post. Tom Hanks is the actor they split focus with and neither got a nomination. Considering all that Jackman has done for Fox re: X-Films it probably felt like a betrayal to learn they split focus with Hanks.

Armie. Michael Stuhlbarg. None of them nominated. Frankly the more deserving of a nom was Stuhlbarg, but Armie was right about the split campaign strategy is just dumb.
They were in Rome. He even stopped dressing up and he’s wearing a tracksuit for the rest of the European promo tour. He’s very childish.

I would be irritated because the snub probably came due to unlitigated and unproven sexual harassment allegations. Armie Hammer was snubbed too. He started wearing track suits when doing press. Some say that’s his statement of disagreement.

A24 is the production company. The other actor is Colin Farrell for The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Hint: “Did not” is a nod to the famous “I did nawwwwwwwwwwwt” from The Room
Bonus: I would be more upset they lied to me about their loyalty than about the lack of a nomination… especially if I were James Franco, who was previously nominated and has more important issues to face at the moment.
Also, Colin got snubbed!

The Greatest Showman is eligible for this year’s Oscar. The song “This is me” is up for best original song.
I do agree with gailpow in regards to it being Hugh Jackman.
captmarvel says
Greatest Showman is eligible for this year’s Oscar’s, it opened in 2017, not 2018. I suppose this could be about Fox running campaigns for him and Tom Hanks and neither getting nominated, but calling Fox a production company is weird.

I wonder what the politics behind the snub in Hollywood by his industry peers is really about? Perhaps sick of the ahem..Lavender marriage?
Hugh is considered Mr Nice Guy so this is highly unusual behaviour.
Selena says
The “ahem..Lavender marriage” is a real marriage. I have rarely seen a couple that so obviously cares and loves one and other. If it was a “ahem..Lavender marriage” don’t you think he would have picked a woman younger than him, and a woman with a more malleable personality? Deborra-lee Furness is a strong woman who is an outspoken activist and was a star in Oz long before Hugh Jackman. Just because a man dances and sings as well as acts doesn’t mean he is gay.
