[Blind Gossip] One of the biggest items on any bride’s To Do list is the dress.

This celebrity has decided on her top designer choice, but it’s not just based on her fashion aesthetic. Her criteria list also involves politics… celebrity… and friendship. That’s a lot to ask of one designer!

The Designer is the same nationality as the bride’s future husband.

This will help ingratiate her with her future family. She also likes the show business connection and the potential friend connection. She knows that [Designer] has a lot of posh friends, and would love introductions. She sees this as an opportunity to create a new circle of friends.

Sounds like she has really thought this through. Let’s hope the dress design works, too!

Bride: Meghan Markle

Designer: Stella McCartney

We knew that Stella McCartney was designing a long white gown for Markle – and that Markle was going for fittings – but we did not know that Markle was going to wear TWO white gowns on her wedding day.

Surprise!

The first was a white gown with a veil by Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller.

The second was a white gown by Stella McCartney.

Here are the conceptual sketches and the actual dresses.

First, the Givency conceptual sketch.

Next, Kate Middleton in her wedding dress (by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen) and Meghan Markle in her Givency dress and veil.

Here is Stella McCartney’s conceptual sketch for the second gown.

And here are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the wedding party, with Markle wearing the Stella McCartney dress.

Stella McCartney is the designer referenced in our original blind item. McCartney is the daughter of Beatle legend Paul MCartney, she is British, and she is socially very well connected.

By the way, did you know that Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey also wore Stella McCartney to the wedding?

Markle did not meet McCartney, Clooney, or Winfrey until very recently… and now all three women are in Meghan Markle’s posh new circle of friends.

We will leave it up to you to decide how calculating all of that is.

    I think it’s calculting but also very needed. She has no past as someone who carries a title or lives a life of class. She has jumped from Hollywood freedom into a structured life where mistakes aren’t permitted. If she wants to stand the test of time, she’ll have to calculate her actions and keep in mind who she associates with. She can no longer say what she thinks or defend her choices.

    The Givenchy dress was just OK. It seemed not fitted enough in the sleeves and top area and was a little plain. I love the veil and tiara choice. Also love the stella mccartney dress.

    I loveddddd her wedding dress very simple and classic. The veil was everything to me. The second dress blew me away she looked like an angel. I don’t think it’s calculating at all.. she’s gonna live in London forever and she wants a new circle of friends.. nothing wrong with that.

    I hate to say it, but I thought her dress was very plain and fit her like something off the rack. Meghan is a fit girl, and maybe one more fitting could have showed that off, but she ended up looking shapeless. I thought the veil was gorgeous but it outshone her dress. Compared to Kate, there is no question who looks better.

      Agreed. Both dresses were beyond boring. Guests at weddings wear fancier/more elegant dresses. If you shortened them they are essentially casual dresses that you would wear to work – even long they are way too casual for a wedding, nevermind a royal one! I have to say, the side by side comparison here really highlights how tailored Kate’s dress was, and how ill-fitting Meghan’s was. She looks like she’s wearing an off-the-rack sack.

    I hope it is not Stella McCartney-not a real creative talent in my book. Both McCartney and Beckham seem way too commercial and not worthy of designing a royal wedding gown. I think it is someone with more chops as a real designer and not a designer because her dad or husband were famous.

    Sparkles is the bride to be. I read somewhere that she’s friends or acquaintances with Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice, so maybe that who she chose as a designer.

    Sparkles is calculating in every move she makes. She’s in love with the idea of being a Royal. Harry is simply a means to get there. Ideally, I am sure she’d prefer William, as this woman would love to be Queen.

    Meg and Posh (friends) Spice. I thought Meg had somewhat better taste in clothing but she can probably get Vicky to make whatever she wants, regardless.

    Typical is not possible. She is marrying into a royal family, arguable THE royal family. She knows this dress will be analysed and picked apart by fashion magazines/sites and the media at large. That is a lot of pressure.

    Hmm, Meghan Markle, obvi, but the designer… I’ll guess Galliano.

    Idk if this is typical because nothing about her story is typical, and I guess that’s why people care so much? I’m betting she has to think hard about this choice because everyone else will overthink it so why not get ahead of the curve.

    She’s swimming in shark infested waters so making allies is a must. Actually she’s being astute and showing that she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with as a future royal. She’s a Yank and won’t be easily intimidated. Meghan from the hood is going to make a good..duchess.

    Smart move as it will definitely be well received by the Brit’s if she chooses to “buy British” and this is all about getting her accepted as a good choice for Harry as everyone likes and is protective of him.

    She’s a fashion designer with a celebrity aspect who is the same nationality as Harry. Also, I think the Beckhams are in with the Royal Family as they attended William and Kate’s wedding.

      [Optional] – I think a little of both. Never been a bride, myself (nor a groom, for that matter), but isn’t the wedding the first opportunity for the bride to really WOW the groom’s extended family and friends? Doesn’t really seem like she’s doing anything too bizarre. Just the stakes are higher than if she were marrying a schoolteacher or plumber.

      (What I would give to see Harry’s plumber’s crack!)

    MM is anything but a typical bride, and in her situation, I think she is smart to consider all of these factors. I hope it works out well for her and that she will be able to make some new friends.

    There’s a big hint in this Blind Item as well. “Posh” is a British term. Meghan Markle’s future husband and family members are British.
    Also, “Posh” = Victoria Beckham is known as “Posh Spice”.

    It’s a brilliant move not only for the reasons stated in the Blind but also because Victoria knows how to design beautiful dresses.

      She has to be overcalculating – things are different now.

      I suspect she needs Oprah as a journalist/tv personality to put Meghan’s own spin on things (Diana did this for years).

      She needs Amal because she is venturing into world issues related to women/women’s rights.

      The Stella Connection makes sense because she is British and know how people think in that society – she needs as many British confidants as possible for that reason.

      Agree. Everything I’ve read about her leads me to believe she is extremely calculating.

      Don’t you think she was most likely guided towards acceptable designers? I am sure she didn’t have free reign. The House of Windsor isn’t going to leave Meghan up to her own devices when it comes to a royal wedding.

      Name one person who married into that family in the two centuries who wasn’t seeking upward mobility (in a country where class is everything). Who would want to be part of that family except someone who wants it’s trappings?

    Very calculating, but I personally like VB’s designs (just wish she didn’t use ultra skinny models for them!)

      That hasn’t actually been confirmed… in fact, I couldn’t find a confirmation on any specific designer. There is an article outlining why MM *should* choose VB, but honestly, her thirst will just be so flippin’ obvious if she does.

    I’m actually more curious to see if she will have her shoulders covered-the dress code of the Church of England (and Catholic Church). Kate & Pippa & Nicki (Hilton) & Diana didn’t wear sleeves to start a new fashion trend. Strapless styles would be considered highly inappropriate.

    Megan doesn’t seem to care much about decorum. She’s a true American movie star-she can do whatever she wants!!!! Will the Archbishop put his foot down? Or cave to a more American style? We…

      The Royal religion, and official religion of England since 15 70ish, is The Church of England, which is protestant & which the Queen is the head of. It’s the American equivalent of Episcopalian, or what I like to call “Catholic Lite”. Never accuse the royal family of being papist or off with your head!!! So the straplessness is a non issue other than one of lady-like propriety.

      I don’t know what Pippa wore but Diana, Kate and even Sarah Ferguson DID wear sleeved wedding dresses. Diana’s monstrous puffed wrinkled silk taffeta balloon sleeves are sadly tattooed in my brain.

    Not sure if I’m on the right track, but I think the bride is Meghan Markle and the designer is Victoria Beckham just because of the “posh” mention. Does she do wedding dresses though?
    It’s a pretty calculated move to choose a designer for any reason other than liking their designs. I really hope this marriage works out, it would be a shame for Harry if it didn’t
