Classic TV Affair

[Blind Gossip] This actor and actress played a married couple on a famous TV show more than twenty years ago. They were not married to each other in real life.

Very few people know that they had an affair while they were working together. Nowadays they make up fake romances to get more attention, but back then, it was all very hush hush. The affair started in the second season and went on for several years. They were very passionate about each other. Everyone on the set knew, but the audience had no idea. Quite scandalous.

It’s a classic show with a humorous bent. You have certainly seen on cable even if you were too young to watch it when it originally aired.

Not Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, who were married in real life as well as on their TV show.

    John & Roseanne
    He still gets ridiculously nervous whenever it’s mentioned she had a crush on him (Ruby Wax, some NOLA interviewer, Dave L-?, etc).
    There was that party where he allegedly took the nearly nvde polaroid of George. (Who else got nekked??)
    He had just met his wife (during EvAll-Am), but they weren’t married yet, while she was already involved with Tom and still married to Bill P.
    They’ve still kept friendly since show ended and are now shooting the revival series.

    I’ve got 3 shows.. Hart to Hart, Moonlighting or Remington Steele.
    Hart to Hart: Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers.
    Moonlighting: Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis.
    Remington Steele: Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist.

    Optional: Absolutely for any of them.

    I think this is Katy Segal and Ed O’Neil from “Married W/ Children” The red hair, over 20 years old, plays in syndication, too risqe for younger viewers..

    Could it be Roseanne? That’s one of two shows that I can think of that fits the 20 years ago + targeted to a slightly older audience. The other is Married with children.

    Something makes me think MAD ABOUT YOU and Paul Reiser/Helen Hunt. They had such sour grapes in later seasons that maybe it was an affair that went sour.

    I’m going to say Andy Griffith and Aneta Corsaut, who played Helen Crump. She joined the show in the second season and they did have an affair, I know this is older than 20 years though. A more recent show I thought about for some reason was Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson from Home Improvement.

    Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson. Their sitcom was about 20 something years ago so it is just a guess. I really can’t remember much about that show.
    More scandalous would be Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton but I don’t think that would be eithers style as they both seem to have been and continue to be in happy marriages with 4 children each.
    Romano and Heaton would have been super cute in real life.

      I like your use of the clues…hmm…..how about hart to hart stephanie powrs had reddish hair….in the opening the butler would say “when they got “married” it was murder…..and their name hart…in the opening for I love lucy there was that big heart….

    I loved that show when I was a child. I thought it was so glamourous. They had great chemistry on screen. They would have made a great couple in real life.

      Yes, I think you got it… I watch Hart to Hart now on the Hallmark channel & love it..Robert Wagner is so dreamy & they really have a lot of chemistry. As I watch the show I always think they really act married or in love, if not they are great great actors imo..

      She does have red hair like Lucille in the pic but if it is them, then a year into their affair, both of their partners tragically died 2 weeks apart. I watched Hart to Hart and it was, at times, funny but would you consider it to have a “humorous bent”? If so, then I think you’ve nailed it.

      Robert Wagner’s been married to Jill St. John for quite a while. I, too, love the idea of Stefanie and Bob, but doubt it happened and is still happening.
