One publication recently pointed out that an actress who starred on a very popular TV show in the 1990s looked exhausted and had messy hair.

They might not have been so critical if they knew that she is actually being treated for cancer… and is wearing a hairpiece to try to hide her hair loss.

Last month, several outlets criticized Doherty for her “messy hair” and for looking “tired and drawn” during personal appearances.

Perhaps the authors who criticized Doherty were not aware that that the former Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed star has been undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer for the past year.

Doherty has always been known for her thick, gorgeous mane, so it must have been very upsetting for her to watch her hair fall out. While she has been wearing a wig in public for several months, she finally took the big step of shaving off all of her hair this week. Doherty got a hug from her mom, and then showed off her newly-shaved head on Instagram.

    Could it be debra messing from will and grace “messy” hair and the characters from the show were very critical on the show.

    It’s not ok. The woman who wrote the article looks far worse, not even being ill, and now has shown she is not only ugly on the outside, but very ugly on the inside.

    That is absolutely vile. Chemotherapy, especially with someone so young, is not only physically draining, but emotionally draining as well.

    I had stage 3 grade 3 breast cancer. Double mastectomy, chemo, lost all my hair, reconstruction…it was awful. And I didn’t have the added nightmare of sleazy photographers following me around splashing my personal struggle for the world to see.

    My encouragement and prayers go out to Shannen Doherty. The publication that did that sucks, and karma will get them.

    First time poster!

    My guess is Shannen Doherty, They recently made an article criticising her apperarance and the story was removed hours later. I used to watch 90210 when i was a little girl and I wanted to be like her, you know I loved her hair, her clothes and her personality. I felt very sad when i knew that she has cancer, i´m praying for her full recovery.
    PS: really sorry for my lame english, is not my first language.

    Shannen Doherty? Saw a picture of her with Holly and thought she didn’t look to good…but then remembered she had spoke out about having Breast Cancer and figured she was probably getting treatment… so she gets a pass

    Poor girl. Of course it is NOT alright to criticize someone who’s ill. Like many serious diseases cancer is not something one chooses to have and more often than not the powerful drugs used to treat these deadly diseases (non-psychological, ie alcoholism/drug addiction, which are treated with Talk-Therapy) are literally poison to the human body & are often worse than the disease itself.

    Shannen Doherty. They ran an article about how tired she looked and used some unflattering photos of her at the event next to some photos of her from the 90s. Of course, she doesn’t look like she did 20 years ago.

    No, it’s not okay to criticize someone’s appearance, especially when they are ill.

    Poor Shannen Doherety (sp?) She went through breast cancer, and chemotherapy. I have gone through this twice in the past three years, and my hair fell out, too. Actually, it’s better to just throw the wigs away- the wigs are too much work when you are so sick!
    She is really beautiful and people understand. She has nothing to be ashamed of! For some reason a lot of people are going through cancer. It’s a bitch!

    No, it’s not OK to criticize someone for their appearance when they are ill. Nor is it OK to do so if they’re healthy. It’s just not OK, period.

    Sad. No idea, but people don’t know if it’s illness or just the celeb being a regular person who didn’t glam up. If you know they are ill, you should refrain from being critical on their appearance.
