SOLVED!
[Blind Gossip] This female talk show host is very particular about hygiene.
Not hers.
Yours.
From a former staffer:
She had a little bowl of mints by her door, and whenever you were going to talk to her, her rule was that you would have to pop a mint first or she wouldn’t speak to you.
That’s not all.
The other thing is that she is very sensitive to the way people smell. She would wrinkle her nose and ask staffers and crew members (who do a lot of physical labor) in front of everyone if they had showered that day.
Could you even imagine if your boss did that to you? And in front of your colleagues?
If she thought you smelled bad, she would tell you to go home and take a shower. She really embarrassed some people.
Sounds like a great work environment.

[Optional] If your boss told you that you smelled bad in front of other people, what would you do?
SOLVED!
Talk Show Host: Ellen DeGeneres
Your friends at Blind Gossip have been telling you for years that Ellen DeGeneres is a mean boss.
While this blind item dates back to 2016, recent revelations by a staff members make it solvable.
From the UK Independent:
Ellen DeGeneres accused of ‘mean’ behind-the-scenes behaviour by ex-employees
People claiming to be ex-employees of Ellen DeGeneres are sharing some startling experiences they’re said to have had with the presenter.
The stories began circulating after comedian Kevin T Porter told Twitter he would donate $2 to a food bank in Los Angeles for every “insane story” his followers repeated about DeGeneres, whom he branded “notoriously one of the meanest people alive”.
It wasn’t too long before the alleged stories started flooding in, with apparent former TV workers revealing some eyebrow-raising accusations about their time behind-the-scenes on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
There were many, many responses.
One story claimed that DeGeneres would send her staff home if they had failed to chew gum before speaking to her.
“She has a ‘sensitive nose’ so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower,” one tweeter wrote.
That solves our blind item. She likely switches back and forth between mints and gum.
Another added: “A new staff member was told ‘every day she picks someone different to really hate. It’s not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she’ll be mean to someone else the next day.’ They didn’t believe it but it ended up being entirely true.”
Yes, Ellen is a bully.
DeGeneres also apparently “had a PA fired for leading her to set the ‘long’ way”.
Of course, the irony here is that Ellen has made her mark with the motto, “Be Kind.”
She even has a “Be Kind” gift box available via a subscription service.
Yes, Ellen is a hypocrite. She makes money off of telling other people to “Be Kind” while she herself is a bully.
If you are a celebrity like Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres will be kind to you.
However, if you are “beneath” her, Ellen DeGeneres is anything but kind.
Some other complaints:
…My brother is a Wish kid. His wish was to be at the 12-days of Ellen, which was arranged. 1 month before they cancelled because, “Ellen refuses to interact with disabled people.” Crushed his heart.
…Was wrking on a show @ WB that was next to her stage. Was our showrunner’s 50th Bday. Caterer grilling steaks outside for special fancy lunch. Ellen sent someone over to demand they stop, as she doesn’t eat meat. She’s the worst.
…Working for her, I was instructed that I can’t look her in the eye and never ever say hi to her first. “But don’t worry, she definitely won’t be saying hi to you in the first place.” She creates the most toxic environment for her staff.
…After working for Ellen for over 5 years, close friend left to have baby, & found different job on a union network show (benefits etc), Ellen BEGGED her to return then fired her after 1 week, no reason given, and friend struggled for long time w new baby and no benefits etc.
…I worked at Real Food Daily, served her & Porsha at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand). Almost got me fired.
Does any of this sound like the behavior of a kind person?
Of course not!
Because Ellen DeGeneres is not a kind person.
Did you notice how quiet Ellen was after all these accusations came out?
It is likely that there were some very significant legal issues with the way she had treated employees, especially around humiliating some employees and having others fired.
She was in deep trouble, both from a PR perspective and a legal perspective, and she had to get her ducks in a row.
Now, finally, there is a flurry of activity! And her strategy is clear.
First, the internal investigation.
From The LA Times:
Warner Bros. examines complaints of toxic culture on ‘Ellen’ TV show
The producer of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show told employees it was looking into reports of a toxic workplace, including complaints of intimidation and racism.
Telepictures, a unit of Warner Bros. Entertainment, informed staff on the show last week that it was enlisting WarnerMedia’s employee relations team and a third-party consultant to interview current and former employees about their experiences on the production, according to a memo seen by The Times.
The memo asked those approached to participate openly in the confidential process so it could improve the environment on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
A Warner Bros. spokesman declined to comment.
Riiight.
As if producers had no idea what was going on all these years… but now deeply care!
Ellen DeGeneres got away with treating people badly because she was the star and had power.
Ellen DeGeneres is worth more than $300 million and is the star of more than one TV show.
She has The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Ellen’s Game of Games, and is the producer of several other shows, including Little Big Shots.
The only reason her behavior is now an issue for the studio is because their star has been exposed. That puts the shows – and the shows’ revenues – in jeopardy.
The second step was the “apology” letter from Ellen to her staff.
Hey everybody – it’s Ellen. On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect.
Ha ha ha. Not. Even. Close.
Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show.
Nope.
I could not have the success I’ve had without all of your contributions. My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that. Alongside Warner Bros, we immediately began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to correct the issues. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t.
That shifted pretty quickly from “I’m sorry” to blaming other people! That’s how you know that somebody other than her is about to get thrown under the bus.
That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.
Yes, let’s put The Head Bully in charge of changing things.
I’m also learning that people who work with me and for me are speaking on my behalf and misrepresenting who I am and that has to stop.
That is the most important thing. Controlling the message.
As someone who was judged and nearly lost everything for just being who I am, I truly understand and have deep compassion for those being looked at differently, or treated unfairly…
She is positioning herself as a victim. Just like you!
The rest is a lot of blah blah blah about awareness and change and fairness and justice and other buzzwords.
Not everyone is fooled by this “apology.”
Actor Brad Garrett had a few biting words for Ellen.
You know Brad Garrett as the very tall and very droll brother on Everybody Loves Raymond.
Garrett appeared as a guest on Ellen’s talk show six times between 2004 and 2007.
He said:
Sorry but it comes from the top @TheEllenShow. Know more than one who were treated horribly by her. Common knowledge.
Yep. Common knowledge.
Then came the third step.
Immediately after Ellen’s “apology” was issued, several male executives were singled out for a variety of issues, including sexual harassment of male and female employees.
Dozens Of Former “Ellen Show” Employees Say Executive Producers Engaged In Rampant Sexual Misconduct And Harassment
BuzzFeed News spoke to 36 former employees, many of whom independently corroborated incidents of harassment, sexual misconduct, and assault from top producers like Kevin Leman. All of the ex-employees, many of whom had voluntarily left the show, asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution.
In addition to Kevin Leman, Ed Glavin was also named as a serial harasser.
Now, the fourth step.
Ellen has threatened to quit her own show!
From The Mirror:
Ellen DeGeneres ‘ready to quit’ after show’s staff accused her of enabling ‘toxic culture’
Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly told show bosses that she is ready to quit after accusations from staff that she has enabled a “toxic culture” behind the scenes.
The host, 62, feels that she won’t be able to go on with the show and that the only way to recover her personal brand is to shut it down, a source has suggested.
Oh, no! We must save Ellen!
See what happened there?
In just four steps, Ellen DeGeneres was re-positioned from villain to hero, from perpetrator to victim, from bad to good.
Ellen is not a Bad Witch who spent years being mean and nasty with employees and looking the other way when others did the same.
Ellen is a Good Witch. Ellen is kind and fair. Ellen will get rid of all those bad white men. Ellen will heroically try to protect employees and save the show and save all those jobs. But only if we all beg Ellen to stay.
Oh, please.
Ellen DeGeneres is trying to save herself.
Congratulations to Aurora for being first with the correct answer back in 2016!

My guess is Wendy Williams. But I’m gonna have to agree with Wendy on this one. Is hygiene not an important part of getting and keeping a job? Why would anyone wanna walk around sweaty and smelly on a job anyway, ESPECIALLY when the boss is a germaphob? We live in a world of scented baby wipes, compact deodorants, travel sized body mists, trident, lunch breaks, and employee restrooms. There kind of isn’t an excuse to be smelly.

While I love, love, love Wendy Williams this has her written all over it. I recall an episode when she said she didn’t like garlic because it gets stuck in her teeth. The chef cooking said – you know how to solve that? Gargle. Bet we won’t see him again on her show.
If my boss told me I smelled bad – I’d ask them to repeat it. Then I’d email them and say just to make sure you said…then I would sue. Yes I’m that person who would retire due to some bull$hit someone said in front of my…
High Steppa says
Not trying to be offensive, but what could you sue over? There’s no law against people being jerks which is what your boss would be. HR could speak with them about their lack of tact but you would have a difficult time showing damages where you would be entitled to compensation.
OliviasTwin says
Great question – in this make believe world where my boss would have the gall to say something crazy like this – I would sue for a hostile workplace.
I think it is okay to deliver this feedback in a one on one, but not in a group environment.
NeqNik says
Someone at work sued their boss over being told they had a bad body odor. The boss told the person in front of others at the job as well as outside of work. She got a big pay day. Several people witnessed the exchange and humiliation.

Okay, no idea who this is, and her behaviour is inexcusably rude, BUT as a super smeller, I can totally understand where she’s coming from. Never heard of osmophobia but not surprised. I sometimes feel like that about bad odors.
