[Blind Gossip] This father is a busy working film actor. His wife is a civilian. She must be very busy, too.
How busy? Well, while the actor was away filming a few months ago, she was apparently too busy to attend a parent-teacher conference. She sent the child’s nanny instead.
When the teacher questioned the appropriateness of the nanny’s attendance at the meeting, the nanny replied that she knew more about the child’s daily life than either parent, so it was actually better for her to be there.

[Optional] If the child is doing well in school, does it really matter who attends the parent-teacher conference?

Wasn’t Matt Damon’s wife a teacher? She would have to be either sauced up or really stuck up to miss a conference.
northofyou says
I don’t know, but Damon’s mother is a teacher, and Damon has been very outspoken in his support of teachers. I cannot imagine him being OK with his wife sending the nanny. I don’t think it’s him.

Ethan Hawke and his wife fit the bill.
mommagoosed says
The sad part about this (to me) is that the nanny knows more about/is more involved with the child than the parents! If you’re not going to be a parent to your children (even if you need nannies to assist), don’t have children, IMHO. Sad…

Sounds like Matt Damon, but I am pretty sure they live in Miami. I like the Jerry Seinfeld guess, but he is not really a “film actor”. And the Baldwins live in New York plus their kids aren’t old ebough for school.

Matt & wife moved to LA last year.
CoCoJoe says
Not so important unless the teacher specifically requested the meeting…it must be very challenging to maintain a marriage with someone who is often not at home base; perhaps she was with the husband. Sending a surrogate to the meeting seems appropriate. I often meet siblings, uncles and grandparents at parent meetings. If giving up a parent meeting means later she can attend a recital or a game, I’d be okay with that. I am often surprised at how much Matt Damon’s wife manages to be with…
MrsBreeder says
Having to agree Matty D refers to his wife as a “civilian.” Didn’t he, however, bring his entire family with him to London for the latest Bourne movie? That makes me give pause as to whether or not it is him. He also just strikes me as the kind of man who would WANT to be involved in his children’s’ lives.
And, as a parent, it DOES matter who goes to the conferences. I see so many parents who do not give a flip and think only money matters. So wrong. The kids have $$$ but no parent…
shelaur22 says
Bale. Did you ever see them travel? They take the nanny ALWAYS. They cannot be without the nanny. It’s even built into his contracts (per the Sony Wikileaks) that the nanny’s travel and accommodations are paid for by the studio for filming and press stuff.

Pam Anderson? She rarely wears clothes so I can see her walking around like that and the boobs are massive lol.
Yes it matters who attends parent teacher conferences otherwise the parent
is deemed neglectful and the child is affected by that.
That Nanny is NOT the parent.

Pam Anderson is not a civilian wife with a working actor husband.
CevansLeftpec2 says
Matt Damon or Matthew McConaughey’s wife.
It doesn’t really matter who attends so much as the message it sends. If your babysitter/nanny knows more about your own kids than you do, you have a problem.

Now days, with computer gradebooks, parents can see at any time what grade their kid has. They can also email the teacher at anytime with questions, so, the “conference” is a crock. It’s outdated, unnecessary, wastes time and resources and there is no need for it. Reading and math levels are also posted for parents, as are state testing results, so, unless they’re complete idiots the conference thing is silly drivel.
MrsBreeder says
I check my kids’ grades often online– but a computer (and email) do not take the place of person to person interaction. Even just ten minutes where the teacher is focused on answering your questions, or vice versa can make a difference.
MamaCat says
My kids are in elementary public school and while I can (and do) email the teacher, we do not have electronic grade books. That starts in middle school in our district. We do receive reading levels, but not math levels, and as far as the common core state tests, last year there were 5 kids in one grade at our school that took them, the rest of the grade opted out, so there’s another metric that not everyone has at their disposal. Plus it’s rude to make an appointment and flake…

Obviously Matt Damon and his wife. He’s been quoted numerous times saying that he married a civilian. And it doesn’t surprise me that the nanny knows more about the child than the child, but I think that’s a little sad for the children…especially since she doesn’t work.

Certainly doesn’t communicate that their parents have any interest in their lives and their educational progress. It’s important to know and support your children’s teachers and have open communication. And we wonder why so many students are failing. Very sad indeed.
