sacrifice 1[Blind Gossip] Oscar contenders (and their publicists) have all different sorts of ways to try to appeal to Academy Awards voters during awards seasons. A key to generating votes is being relatable to the majority of voters. In the past, we’ve revealed to you how one actor suddenly got very involved with his wife and kids to look like a family man. A second actor got married to portray himself as more mainstream than he actually is.

Now let’s talk about our third actor!

He’s basically a rich, spoiled, self-involved, self-indulgent ladies man. However, those things don’t make him relatable to most of the people in his category. So instead of the usual stories about decadent parties and gorgeous girls, you’ll see sympathetic stories about how he really is just a nice, normal guy making sacrifices for his art and looking to settle down. Of course it’s all baloney… but he REALLY wants that Oscar!

    It shouldn’t but Hollywierd can be as duplicitous and Puritanical about such thing as the America resides in . Leo is a great actor but for years Warren Beatty was snubbed because of his Don Juan ways and maybe those wives of the close friends.

    I love him just the way he is.
    And he’s a great actor, he’s given several Oscar worthy performances and it’s time he was recognized.
    He’s just as “thirsty” as those who receive them and don’t particularly deserve it.
    He shouldn’t have to pretend to be someone he’s not to get an Oscar…it shouldn’t be about politics, but performance alone.

    This screams Leo DiCaprio. I was actually wondering if he was obnoxious, immature and entitled after the Golden Globes, and an interview he did with Tom Hardy where they seemed to be making fun of the interviewer. Now I have confirmation! Ah well, I guess it goes to show that when you grow up in Hollywood, you never really grow up.

    No he will not get the Oscar, Tom Hanks will get it for Bridge of Spies and Tom deserves to win it. Decaprio’s only worthy performance so far was in Titanic but at the time, the Academy preferred someone else. Anyway, his Revenant performance wasn’t euphoric the way his Jack Dawson role was in Titanic. Getting F**k’d by a bear, was that really necessary in the movie?

    As much as I hate the PR manipulation of this (and Hollywood in general), the guy really does deserve an oscar in my opinion, and I really want him to win so fingers crossed! I think he has a great chance this year.

      Oh, and I don’t know if he’s going to win or not (I saw The Revenant, and of all the great roles he’s had, it would be a shame for that to be his Oscar winner), but I think he deserves and Oscar, and the Academy should take a mulligan on this one even though the movie was just…meh since they’ve overlooked his past performances in truly amazing and well directed films.

    Yes, I think he’ll win. But, let’s be honest, his caliber of performance doesn’t even matter this time around since people are so obsessed with him winning at all costs because he was “robbed” in the past.

    Do you think our Third Actor will win the Oscar? Given the fact that he’s won the Globe and although likeable, Matt Damon’s performance was just okay in my opinion. I haven’t seen the Revenant yet, but it seems like the type of performance that they’d just decide to give it to him.

    This year’s big acting noms seem a little…boring? I’m excited for Brie Larson, but the Academy and the networks are going to have to work hard for ratings imo.

    Leo but he has been a d-bag for too long and all over the press now supposedly laughing and dissing Gaga for her GG win. Too late! You can’t resurrect your model, partying ways like a month before the awards. Didn’t he just dump ANOTHER model? If the voters look at core values, Damon and his three girls and humble ways will secure it for THE MARTIAN which was CASTAWAY in outer space. lol

      Must amend too in saying LEO does deserve it. I just think it is silly to suddenly play the Oscar winning straight and narrow game at the final hour. Own who you are or else just let approval go for now. He has a huge career ahead of him yet…. and he is what he is. He makes no apologies the rest of the year! That being said, he is a bit of a snit, but he might have been a snit if he managed my local Starbucks. He is still a force as an actor!

    Actor #2–Cumberbatch, last year. Didn’t work.
    Actor #3–DiCaprio. Will only work when enough of the majority voters he pissed off during his little Titanic Oscar no-show/huff die or retire. Maybe that’s this year–it HAS been a long time.

    This must be about Leo and his Suffering tour — talking ad nauseam about how gosh-darned hard it was to film The Revenant (for which he was paid many millions of dollars, which somehow never comes up). Now that people have started making fun of that narrative, he’s trying to pretend it’s somehow an Issue Movie — talking about First Nations and such. It’s all baloney.
    I hate he won the Golden Globe (even tho I know those are hooey) and I hope he NEVER gets the Oscar he is so blatantly…

    I think he’ll win and it’s overdue (Gilbert Grape, The Departed etc). (PS I don’t care that he has a new VS model every day, or takes endless holidays with his bros. He works hard when he’s on set, is professional and if he hasn’t met ‘the one’ who cares? I have far more time for him than other sleaze balls who pretend to do the family man thing – Affleck I’m throwing shade at you. Plus these ‘models’ get just as much out of the arrangements – instant fame.

      I’d say 90% chance he’ll win, but only because he’s campaigned for it; 10% chance the academy voters will be embarrassed by the gaucheness of his campaign and give it to someone else.

    Clooney used to be similar, and no one really had a problem with him. He was more discreet and engaged in other ways though. Darfur comes to mind. And it certainly helped his PR.

    Optional: I think in general an Oscar should be given based on performance. Having said that, I can’t help it… sometimes actors/actresses just rub me the wrong way. And Leo is one of them.       Agreed! But you forgot about the gas guzzling yacht vacations he’s always on with the boat load of models. Granted he does throw a lot of money around with charities, but wouldn’t it be best in today’s day and age and lead by example. For real, Leo, take the bus sometime and give your pilots a rest. Honestly, I think he’s about as phony as they get, good thing the plays pretend for a living.

      glargh, yes. Spent half an hour telling Charlie Rose about interviewing people for his enviro-documentaries in between braving the icy river for The Revenant. Inarritu chimed in about global warming making it hard to find places to film. They were both up to HERE in devotion to their craft.

      He’s got that whole group of ex-child stars (Lukas, Tobey, Elijah Wood) and I think that even if there are couples, there’s also some mix and match polyamory on occasion. (Remember his Chilean vacation with Kevin Connolly and the alleged kiss pix?)

    I think so. He’s a genuinely good actor and has proven himself time and time again, so I say: Just give it to him already. I would rather they gave it to him now than have the Academy take the Oscar from a more deserving performer later on to write a past wrong, or just because he’s beloved by his peers (like Sandra Bullock). It really pisses me off when that happens.

      If Jennifer Lawrence can win an Oscar, Leo most certainly can – and should. There have been many ‘WTF???’ winners since the competition began back in the 20’s, and voting is all political as in everything. But he is certainly worthy of getting an Oscar, I don’t think he’s ever been in a piece of time-killing junk.

      They’re both examples. Julia was a mix of “we love her” and “her best performance ever” (which Erin Brockovich is, you can’t deny). Sandra on the other hand, was just a “we love her” winner. In my eyes. She deserved it for Gravity or even a supporting nod for Crash, but The Blind Side? Really?
