Marc Cherry Insults Another Desperate Housewife

[TheHollywoodReporter] Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry, who’s already embroiled in a sex discrimination and illegal termination lawsuit filed by Nicollette Sheridan, apparently isn’t worried about offending the sensibilities of the actresses on his show.

During a panel of ABC network showrunners held Saturday at the Producers Guild’s Produced By Conference in Burbank, Cherry draw laughs when he described how he has had to coax performances out of one of his stars.

“One of my actresses on Desperate Housewives is not funny,” he said, before offering that he coaches her by saying, “Sweetie, if you raise your eyebrow here, you’ll get a laugh.” Cherry didn’t reveal the actress in question, but continued, “She does, and she gets nominations. Daddy’s little girl does comedy. I’m part daddy, part psychiatrist.”

Could easily be any of them, but is the show honestly meant to be funny??

For the sake of a guess, lets just say Marcia Cross.

  • mspitstop

    Has to be Teri Hatcher.

Eva kicked her loser to the curb; Marcia would cut him a new one; Felecity would knee him in the… ; and don’t go there girl, with Vanessa.

It’s not Williams she was hilarious on Ugly Betty & Huffman is the best actress there so i’d say it’s between Cross & Hatcher.

Marcia Cross. She got presence and gravitas, but somewhat limited range of expression. Also, psychiatry could be a clue, since she holds master’s degree in psychology.

going w/ Cross. she has her masters in Psychology… maybe related to the “I’m part daddy, part psychiatrist” quote.

Marcia Cross. (all of them are botoxed, but Marcia very obviously, so the eyebrow comment says MC to me). And personally, Bree’s character has always felt serious to me, no matter what outrageous things happen. I can laugh at the funny things the other women get up to, but when funny things happen with Bree, they happen TO Bree, if you understand this. She’s a bit proper and uptight and funny things happen TO her. The others just DO funny things.

Eva. She has an eyebrow game going on and her pic is different then the others

  • Dont Know For Sure

I don’t watch the show but from what I’ve seen of Marcia Cross this seems to fit her.

I don’t watch the show but this Marc Cherry guy is a patronizing prick! Belittling his employees in public has gotta backfire…

Agreed. He even “jokingly” insulted Eva at her own wedding by saying Tony must be gay to marry a little boy figure with no t*ts. He is just a horrible person in my opinion.

      • gippercat

Wow, loose cannon much. Why on earth would he think saying something like that is acceptable?

      • Rock90210

Well you do know he’s gay. Not making any judgements here but I think he would just be much more comfortable making snide “catty” like comments, like other women would, about his female stars as opposed to another guy. That’s probably why the comments appear to come out from left field the way they do….

I know that Felicity is supposed to be a great actress and all but I just don’t find her that funny or even entertaining on the show.

Teri is a hoot, as is Eva.

Marcia, eh, not so much so, so my guess is Marcia or Felicity.

    I’m on the Eva bandwagon.

I am ashamed to say I watch the show faithfully. All the characters except Marcia are pretty comical so I will have to go with Marcia being that they write her the least humorous lines probably to stay safe.

    Marcia. Hands down.

No way it’s Hatcher. She’s always had amazing timing. Unless we are to believe someone held her hand through the run of Lois and Clark and her infamous Seinfeld episode (and any other lighthearted spot she’s done).

    I agree with Cross.

I’ve watched the show since the first episode- it is definitely not Eva Longoria. Say what you want about her, but she is very good with comedic acting, milking the joke, etc. Teri has become less funny with time, Eva has become more funny.

I doubt it is Vanessa Williams, since she has done similar roles, and her character is pretty disposable.

    Reeeeally doubt it’s Felicity.

Marcia by elimination, but she seemed bubbly on the one TV interview of hers I watched.

Maybe it isn’t a main character- Felicia Tillman, maybe?

  • catgirl

I agree with the Marcia guesses. She’s considered one of the more talented women, but her character really isn’t as funny as the others. Her comedy is much darker than that of the other leading ladies.

But really, it’s the psychiatrist comment that sold me, because of her masters.
