Television execs are quietly putting out feelers to replace this talk show host. It’s not just that the ratings aren’t great. It’s that the producers are having trouble booking guests. Turns out that desirable potential guests either don’t like or don’t respect the host. The bigger surprise may be the host’s replacement. Execs are in talks tonight with someone that a network TV show is also looking to replace. And, no, the two won’t be swapping jobs.

As an inhabitant of that “pathetic island,” I have to say … really, really not cool. And they HAVE made it in their own countries, that’s WHY they move to American TV and films.
And Peter Jennings, college degree or not, was a far cry better than 90% of the talking heads we have now. The news industry is a worse place for having lost him.

(1) Agreed that Piers is terrible. (2) Brian Williams, NBC news anchor and the pride of Ridgewood, NJ, went to three universities and didn’t get a degree. (3) Walter Cronkite dropped out of the University of Texas without graduating. (4) David Brinkley attended three universities, but never got a degree. So Peter Jennings is in illustrious company.

From what I understand, Piers is a joke in the UK. Before his friend Simon put him on that talent show, he was an editor for some bottom-feeder tabloids. Why would CNN give him a show?
i agree. if you read the UK tabs, they are always amazed that their rejects somehow end up hosting US shows just because of their accents (and other assets).

This is a Blind Gossip BI and the picture is a clue. Exiting the revolving door (indicating ongoing or multiple changes) is a guy. Waiting to go through is a woman. Katie’s at a network (CBS) and is widely expected to move on from her nightly anchor gig. Piers has had trouble getting guests; no one likes him.

I think Piers Morgan is a great interviewer; I enjoyed watching him when I was in England, and he has brought a real legitimacy back to that time slot so I’m happy to have him here.
I was going to say Elisabeth Hasselback as the host (just because the View has been craptastic lately), but that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
I 100% agree…but I don’t think the View has problems booking guests…however perhaps this is Joy Behar on her HLN show. While I like Joy I can see how others would find her annoying. She really doesn’t have any major guests on at all, just a lot of C list celebrities.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Chelsea Handler. She’s obnoxious, celebrities don’t like to be booked on a show where every other night of the week she mocks them. Chelsea has a prime time sitcom coming too so maybe it’s her exit time. I think that The Tonight Show still leads the ratings so I doubt it’s Jay. Maybe E! is looking to take someone from one of their other shows like the news or possibly Kelly Osbourne to replace.

It’s not Leno – the whole reason NBC booted Conan was Leno has an insanely expensive buyout clause in his contract. It was cheaper for NBC to pay Conan 30-40 mil than it was to pay Leno 150 mil to go away.
