When some bold paparazzi asked this acting couple about a joke a comedian had recently made about the male half of their team, neither of them could muster a grin. Just icy, cold silence.
However, away from the cameras, he was quite furious about the whole thing. Unfortunately for him, there’s no legal way to fight a blind joke.
On the other hand, the wife actually thought that the joke was hilarious, and had a difficult time not reacting in her husband’s presence when she first heard it. While she’s glad that she’s held up her end of the deal, she can’t be held responsible for other people chipping away at her husband’s reputation. Their relationship has been over for months now, and she is just counting the days left on her contract, at which point she can cash out and move on.

The event in question is the Golden Globe Awards, which were hosted by Ricky Gervais. During his opening monologue, he poked fun at quite a few celebrities including Tom Cruise and John Travolta. Although he does not mention them by name, there was little doubt that they are the subjects of this joke:
“Also not nominated, I Love You Phillip Morris, with Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay — the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then.” Gervais added: “My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.”

I believe “chip and grin” are Tom C and Katie Holmes. The joke must be the one Ricky Gervais made at the Golden Globes. If the contract is for 5 years it should be over by April 2011. Hang in there Katie. Only a few months to go…

their ‘relationship’ seems more like a contract than JT and Kelly’s to me. Not that I don’t agree that JT and Kelly are in a contract either.

I think this is Tom & Katie. Ricky Gervais’ joke could’ve been about ANY Scientologist, and Tom Cruise is SO SENSITIVE about keeping his secret, whereas Travolta seems to be biding his time until he can come out. Also, the “chipping away at her husband’s reputation” makes me think of Chip & Grin, which is definitely Tom & Katie.
Probably Katie holmes and Tom cruise. Kelly has been married to john forever and probably that’s not because of a contract.

I think it’s Tom and Katie. Ricky’s joke could have applied to either him or Travolta but I think the line about the contract applies to TomKat.
