NationalEnquirer – What sitcom side kick from a hugely popular series was recently spotted at an adult theatre outside of Houston? This diminutive star is openly gay and an eyewitness was shocked to see the actor engaging in some naughty X rated activity.

NPH
Not diminutive.
–adjective
1.
small; little; tiny: a diminutive building for a model-train layout.
2.
Grammar . pertaining to or productive of a form denoting smallness, familiarity, affection, or triviality, as the suffix -let, in droplet from drop.
–noun
3.
a small thing or person.
4.
Grammar . a diminutive element or formation.
5.
Heraldry . a charge, as an ordinary, smaller in length or breadth than the usual.
FYI, I’m a college grad and I had to look this one up. I have no clue if NPH is small or not, but I know that Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family is small and according to Wikipedia: “Ferguson currently appears in the ABC sitcom Modern Family,[1] and like his character on the series, Ferguson is openly gay.[2]” so I’m going with Jesse as my final answer.
Not sure I would post the fact of being a college grad who needed to look up a middle school vocabulary word, but I like your guess.
Yikes. When you graduate from college they don’t give you absolutely every single thing you’re supposed to know; sometimes words get skipped over.
I’m currently in college (for Spanish, admittedly) and I wasn’t sure about the definition, either. No worries, Erin.
Anyway, I’m on board with the Jesse Tyler Ferguson guess.
Thanks Brooke! I’m not aware of every word, and when I see a somewhat difficult one on BG, I try and post a definition for anyone who might not know it. I was also the person who wasn’t aware of what multi-hyphenate meant.
I did get a 1250 on my SATs, but scored a bit higher on the math section…I also missed a few days of school in 1993, so maybe I was absent on Diminutive Day!
Obviously you are perfect and I’m sure you’re quite the wordsmith
PS: I shamelessly admit my flaws so no one else has to do it for me. I’m not embarrassed to learn something new.
PPS: I just looked up a sixth grade vocab list and am RELIEVED to inform you, I knew all 15 words!:
1. expense
2. refer
3. accumulate
4. hungry
5. realistic
6. profitable
7. acquire
8. confer
9. attention
10. forbidden
11. forty
12. credit
13. cancel
14. occur
15. maintenance
At least she looked it up and learned something new. My son’s 2nd grade teacher admitted she didn’t know the second grade spelling work “persnickety” at the teacher conferences. I thought everyone knew that word.
I admire people who can be honest about their flaws and who learn from them.
Yikes! The saddest thing here is that diminutive and persnickety have become difficult and unfamiliar words. What’s next, poultry? Nothing against the people who had to look them up, it isn’t their fault that so many words aren’t being used or taught anymore. But it is sad that a person could be in the education system through college and not encounter these words in use by other highly educated individuals.
As for the blind, I don’t think it is NPH but I’ll have to leave the guesses to the more informed readers.
That really is an elementary school word, and that vocab list is simpler than the ones my third grader brings home. I don’t know what school uses that list for sixth graders(!), but it’s time to switch schools. ASAP.
Why is that? It’s better, in my opinion, to LOOK UP what you don’t know (as you are taught to do in grammar school) than to stay in ignorance.
Jan, I want you to know that I am currently reading Mark Twain’s autobiography Volume 1 of 3 (I asked for it for Xmas which was probably a HUGE mistake), and honestly I’m 22 pages into the 200+ page intro and I’m ready to quit…but I’m learning some big words, so I think I’ll stick with it. And I have six hens so I promise I won’t forget the word poultry
And to further disturb everyone, I graduated from an honors university…I am really not sure how they let me graduate.
I find it amusing that people will insult others on this site and the majority of the time they don’t have a chance.
Interestingly enough, I’ve found that the most well read people visit and guess. Sure, this is a gossip blog but can anyone else think of another that challenges ones mind? I can’t.
And I’m sure others have noticed that when one makes a spelling error, it’s almost always followed up by the same person correcting him or herself.
Like me, people come here for a goodnatured escape. We’re respectful and supportive and the content is what gets us off, not conflict our tension with each other.
That said, it’s definitely not NPH.
Ugh. Conflict OR tension, thanks auto correct.
Always helps to clarify meanings, Erin there is no need to proove your intelligence. As a mature age uni student I get you are taught to back up your argument or substantiate a claim which is what you did by confirming definition of words. Your clarification and meaning of the word only helps others to make an educated guess.
Oh, Erin… as a short person it took me many years to realize what diminutive is because I, too, was absent on Diminutive Day. I acquired this forbidden knowledge at great expense merely forty days ago. It occurred to me to that knowing this definition might prove profitable because, let’s be realistic, the more knowledge you accumulate in your life the better off you are. I decided to confer with some friends, but first I was hungry so I made a sandwich. Once I was well fed, I tried to get my friends’ attention but they’re a bunch of high-maintenance prats and only answer if you post on their wall. I wish I could teach them a lesson but replacing their eye drops with super glue is illegal, so I settled for canceling their subscriptions to their favorite skin mags. To my credit, I could’ve done worse since I have keys to their apartments and cars. They don’t know this, so please don’t tell them. Anyway, in the end I settled for referring to a dictionary. Well, Urban Dictionary. It said it meant “small or miniature.” I wasn’t fully clear until I read the example sentence: m j likes diminutive boys… and life made so much more sense.
What I’m saying, Erin, is thanks for posting the vocab list that enabled me to waste a few minutes of my day while having a giggle. It was way more productive than reading a criticism of someone who dares to look up a word. Oh, and I like your guess.
Best. BG. Trail. Ever.
I am dying! Thank you
I love this site so much
“I was absent on Diminutive Diminutive Day.” Lol
Grrrr, you know what I meant.
Sorry, Chloe. Nothing personal. But I HATE this guess. Yes, NPH is openly gay. However, he is also happily married with 3 month old twins. I really DOUBT he’s out prancing and acting up at an Adult Club. I feel like you chose him ONLY because he’s a High Profile Openly Gay Actor on a Sitcom. Dislike! (Again, nothing personal. Have a good day!!)
Well, he’s short too, so that helps.
6’1″ is not short…
Well he seems shorter than that to me, maybe it’s because Jason Segerl is tall AND bigger than him. But you’re right that he isn’t short at all.
Yeah he’s too tall, but I thought he was shorter than that too for some reason.
He was shorter on Doogie Howser. That’s how I remember him.
who is NPH?
Neil Patrick Harris
Which theater is that? I need to check it out.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson? The guy from Modern Family?
Totally agree with you on this one.
Sean Hayes from Will and Grace? Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) isn’t gay but Eric Stonestreet (Cam) is.
You got it backwards. Jesse Tyler Ferguson IS gay and Eric Stonestreet is not.
I think this might be Jesse Tyler Ferguson. He seems “diminutive” on TV.
Damn! And here i thought Cam was the gay one all along! Just goes to show you how great they are as actors
.
Niles Crane from Frasier.
I’m with Beauty. I think it’s David Hyde Pierce.
LOL, I had no idea he was gay….even looked it up to make sure.
Was he really a side-kick though? I would consider him part of an ensemble cast.
Definitely!
What was he doing? Pulling a ‘Pee Wee Herman’? The eyewitness was in the adult theater and should keep his mouth shut!
keep his …. what? where? …never mind. (p.s. someone explain this to Erin)
Bob! Don’t worry, I used to watch Pee Wee’s Play house when I was small, and I VAGUELY remember that happening…although I can’t be sure because finding out about his shenanigans was probably a diminutive part of my day! I am after all, very busy and important and have to look up lots of words (so I don’t always have that much time to worry about pervy theater activities).
Teehee! Good banter guys
My first thought was Jim Parsons, who’s even from Houston, but he’s definitely not diminutive. Hmm…
OMG that was totally who I thought of at first until the diminutive part lol.
My vote is for Sean P. Hayes. Small, gay, sidekick, hugely popular series (it doesn’t say it is still running). Check, check, check, check.
Agreed.
He’s from Glen Ellyn, IL. Our Moms used to work together.
I don’t think of NPH as a ‘sidekick’ More like the star. Plus Houstan-doesn’t fit.
Also, NPH ain’t short, from what I can tell. Either that, or he wears his heels way better than Tommy Boy.
Sounds about right.
Chewey from Chelsea Latley. lol.
Chewy was the first person I thought of when I read diminutive. (@ Erin~ I’m not a college grad, but I DID know the definition. LOL!!)
Besides being diminutive, Chewy ALWAYS wears a hat, as referred to in the title. However, I don’t know if Chewy is gay and I don’t consider Chelsea Lately a sitcom…
“CHUY” not Chewy! My apologies to Chuy and those with a Latino Heritage!!
Hahaha this is great!
Going with JonCryer on this one.
not gay….
I sure as hell hope he is not gay.
We are all perfectly comfortable that he is straight.
Andy Dick….
The guy on The Big Bang Theory. Don’t watch it but can only assume he would be more of a sidekick than NPH or JTF.
Again, those are ensemble casts. I think there is a difference;
An ensemble cast is a cast in which the principal performers are assigned roughly equal amounts of importance and screen time in a dramatic production.
A sidekick is a close companion who is generally regarded as subordinate to the one s/he accompanies
Just sayin’….
The kid from Ugly Betty?
I’ll toss in Leslie Jordan. As it states on his IMDB page “For such a diminutive (4′ 11″) frame, character actor Leslie Jordan has a tall propensity for scene-stealing.” He was on Will & Grace, but not sure if he could be consider a side kick to Megan Mullally’s Karen Walker character. He is a out gay actor.
I’ll second that. When I thought about short, sitcom and gay, he was the first one that came to mind.
Yep, agreed. Leslie Jordan was my first thought too.
And he has that Texan drawl…
This is a good guess.
johnny galecki from big bang theory
not gay. i think.
have heard rumors about him for a long time and he denied being gay on The View. still not buying it…
He’s straight
There’s something about him that’s sexy plus he seems intelligent too.
I’m still going with NPH.
He’s six feet tall. I WAS at school on Diminutive Day and it means the guy in question has to be a little man. The only place six foot is diminutive is on the court during a NBA game.
Now…that is unless we were taking this clue another direction and that direction is in the star’s pants. I haven’t taken a survey but in my limitied personal knowledge, most six footers have corresponding size, uhm, equipment. So I still think NPH is too big for this blind. Plus….I want to believe he’s a nice guy. I really like him a lot. Nice guys finish last….and they finish at home with their partners!
I wouldn’t worry about it being NPH. He’s got newborn twins, a television show in LA, and no connection that I know of to Houston, why would he even be there? I think it’s someone much more obscure.
I’m going with Sean Hayes.
John cryer
someone from Will and Grace? I’m thinking Sean Hayes-he came to mind first.
what about that kid from Glee? Sorry, don’t watch the show, but isn’t he out and proud?
@Bigmama…He may be out but I don’t think he’d be caught dead in a situation like that. I think he’s smarter than that. I think of Glee as an ensemble cast and his character isn’t really a “sidekick”.
leslie jordan.. all the clues fit.. and this picture from “will and grace” shows him dressed as a cowboy: http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/344981/will-and-grace-shohreh-aghdashloo03/
Umm Seth Green? Not sure he is a sidekick on Family Guy though.
I didn’t even realize he was openly gay until I googled it!
Seth green is a straight happily married man. His wife is Clare grant!
oops.. I didn’t go to IMDB and I should have I guess.
Just goes to show you that you can’t believe anything you read on the internet!
Here’s the link to the page that touted him as one of the top ten openly gay actors. http://www.zimbio.com/Elijah+Wood/articles/13/Top+Ten+Openly+Gay+Male+Hollywood+Actors
Then again just because he is married….lol
What about Chris Colfer from Glee?
nevermind i missed the “sitcom sidekick” part of that BL
Okay, I’m FINALLY registered so….
What about that supposedly butch guy on Frasier, you know, with the bald head?
Hi BG!
Does TR Knight count? I realize he is no longer on Grey’s, but for some reason, he was my first thought.
totally Leslie Jordan…he even has been quoted that he hires lots of hustlers for personal fun and thinks its totally cool since he is no adonis and has the cash!
Tom Cruise…lol…thought I would just throw it out there.
Seth Green
In Houston this week too.
I am from houston, wonder what club this was? Also, why is the onlooker shocked by the star being naughty in a adult theatre? Isnt that the point….
My first thought was Danny Pintauro. He played the son on Who’s the Boss? and is openly gay. And he is on the smaller side.
But since his character isn’t a sidekick, I am going to go with the obvious:
Barney Rubble.
Steve Urkel?
