Why This Song Disappeared

athlete headphones[Blind Gossip] We’ve talked before about the competitive process for selecting performers and songs for big events like the Super Bowl.

This song was selected for a very large international event. You were supposed to hear it round the clock for several weeks. Did you notice that you only heard it once or twice… and then it mysteriously disappeared?

Well, we just found out what happened!

Our understanding was that the song was going to be used EXCLUSIVELY in conjunction with our event for the next few weeks, but right after we started playing it, [the singer] immediately went and performed it at [that political event]!

We were stunned. She brazenly gave us the finger and used it to promote a different event. By doing so, she ruined our use of the song. It was no longer associated exclusively with our event and we couldn’t play it anymore without alienating half our American viewers.

We’re sure her side will spin a different story, but that’s what happened.

So in case you were wondering why you haven’t heard that song at that large international event lately… now you know why!

    Optional: I don’t understand the fuss. Everyone knows most celebs lean left and Ms. Perry sings about kissing a girl. She’s notoriously pro-LGBT and has endorsed HRC since 2015. If they hired her for the olympics then pulled it, that’s their problem. Alienating half of Americans? I think not.

    The Olympics did right pulling the song. Exclusive means exclusive – neither party can’t just change the terms whenever and however they want. Plus, she could have waited a couple of weeks and then made it “exclusive” for some other event.

      Each of the songs Katy sag, including Rise, she links Hilary Clinton too! Right there she permanently linked the DNC/Hilary/Democrats to her songs. I liked it better when she used Rise to promote the fight and strength one must have to get to and achieve the Olympics. Not for me to Rise and vote for Hilary… or that Hilary will rise. And to “Roar” for Hilary. I wish famous people would stay out of politics.

    If Perry violated some sort of contract with NBC for the exclusive use or Rise, she shouldn’t get paid.

    I don’t blame them for being leery of the use of the song considering the current climate in the US.

    I was wondering why the song wasn’t being played much. I remember Phil Phillip’s Gone being completely played out four years ago.

    I didn’t watch the DNC but yes they did the right thing if the song was supposed to be exclusive to the Olympics.

    [Optional] Did the large international event do the right thing by pulling the song? Nope. Olympics has a bigger audience and they could’ve co-opted it enough to make people forget it was ever used before. I think Perry did the right thing using it at the DNC in order to make it more universal. Olympic trademarking and intellectual property rules are ridiculous.

      I don’t think it was the IOC or Rio folks that pulled it – I think the song was only going to be used by NBC. They have ended up playing it a few times. The melody is sorta dark and haunting. I’m reminded of that atrocious Madonna song that played at the end of “A League of Their Own”.

      Yes, I read that it was chosen by NBC for the US-TV coverage of the olympics. Interesting to hear it hasn’t been used much. I have to say it was used a lot in German TV in their TV coverage. NBC missed out, it has a great dynamic.

      Omg you’re lucky bc here in NY they play it OUT on the radio- like every two minutes- but it’s funny bc I actually WAS wondering about this also bc I remembered that during the London Olympics they played that song “Home” by Phil Philips literally into and out of every single clip they showed (like of the athletes personal stories etc) & that song wasn’t even MADE exclusively for the Olympics like Katie’s. Dead seriously, I never heard hers ONCE at the olympics.

      She’s REALLY starting…

      *just to be clear my point was that I’ve heard the song a billion times on the radio but didn’t hear it even a single time while watching the olympics on tv and I was wondering why bc of what I said about the Philips song last Summer games

      Second, I was actually wondering about this! I was kinda shocked when she sang it at the DNC and I literally said out loud “Oh, I thought it was the Olympics song?” I think this time around her self-promotion got the best of her.
